Chapter 205: No Need to Talk About Agreements with You_3
Wait a minute...
Hakim and the Inspectors from the Western Suburb District suddenly snapped back to reality, taken aback by the figure of 70 million that was just revealed. Now they carefully considered, was David's claim true or false?
After all, David had been the Director of the Western Suburb Branch for only two days, how could he possibly have gathered such detailed financial information so quickly?
Before they could figure it out, Marcellus regained his composure, and immediately retorted, "Director David, the number you mentioned is too exaggerated. How could we possibly have that much income?"
David looked at him and questioned, "You should know Tomlinson, right?"
Upon hearing this, Marcellus's pupils shrank sharply, and then he shook his head, "I don't know him."
"He's the biggest entertainment group boss in the Western Suburb area. How could you not know him? On the 11th of last month, didn't you just trade with him goods worth 30 million. Right now, those goods should be scattered and sold under his venues. Do you need me to send someone to check?"
Marcellus's complexion suddenly changed.
But before he could respond, David continued, "On the 7th of last December, your group brought in a batch of goods worth 100 million US Dollars from Columbia, and in January and February, you brought in further goods worth 130 and 150 million US Dollars, respectively. The goods for March are about to arrive too, right? Do you need me to intercept them for you?"
Now, whether it was Marcellus or any other Bear Countrymen, they all started to feel uneasy.
It was one thing for David to investigate a partner of theirs in the Western Suburb area, but to also find out about their trade volumes with Columbia meant that either there was a mole in their group or it meant David had obtained a large amount of their secretive information.
The Bear Countrymen knew David was not easy to deal with, but now they truly understood just how formidable he was.
"I'll give you half a day. I want to receive your tax payment by 3 PM today. As for Mr. Rodrigozki, I'm giving him one more day to come and see me; otherwise, don't blame me for not being polite!"
Rodrigozki dared not come back, and David knew that most likely they wouldn't readily comply with what he just demanded. However, it didn't matter, he didn't expect them to just obey. His purpose here was to use his "golden finger" to look over these men's information, so as to kick off his actions.
Watching David and his team leave, Marcellus asked in a low voice, "What do you all think?"
"Damn it, how does this bastard know so much about our transactions after only two days on the job?"
"Hard to say. Maybe he had already investigated us before coming, but no matter what, this man is quite terrifying..."
"Do you think we could have a mole in our group?"
"I think this matter is beyond what we can decide. We'd better consult Mr. Rodrigozki."
Marcellus also thought this wasn't a decision they could make on their own, so he immediately took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Mr. Rodrigozki, that David personally led a team to our place just now..."
Marcellus told everything to Rodrigozki, about how David knew their group's transaction data and demanded they pay the full amount of 70 million in taxes.
After hearing everything, a doubtful voice came from the other end of the line, "How does he know about each of our transactions and their amounts?"
"This... I'm not quite sure, but there could only be two possibilities. One is that we have a mole in our group, and two is that he's too capable and found out... Oh right, he also said we need to pay the tax by 3 PM today, and he's giving you one more day for you to come back and see him..." Stay connected via empire
Towards the end, Marcellus's voice became cautious, as if afraid that Rodrigozki on the other end would erupt in rage.
"One day..."
The harsh tone from Rodrigozki came through the phone, followed by him asking, "Do you think he really has control over our trade routes with Columbia and all our distribution channels here in the Western Suburb area?"
"That... is hard to say. However, judging from his attitude, it seems like he's quite sure of himself, so I think he mustn't know too little."
A long silence ensued on the other end of the line, before the voice returned, "Tell our contacts in Columbia to postpone the trade and stop all transactions in our territory."
Marcellus panicked, knowing Rodrigozki intended to resist the National Tax Service. He worriedly replied, "Mr. Rodrigozki, if we do this, I'm afraid David won't let things go easily."
"Marcellus, if we submit to the three o'clock deadline and pay whatever sum they demand, from then on, we'd always be at their mercy. Right now, it's about fighting for our say. Do you understand?"
Marcellus thought about it and realized there was some truth to this.
From David's annulment of the previous agreement, it was apparent that David was not a man to speak of benevolence, morality, or spirit of agreement.
If they complied as demanded now, it was possible that the other party would continue to raise the stakes in the future, treating them like pigs for slaughter.
After all, David had made it clear that when dealing with those in unsavory industries, there is no need to talk about agreements or contracts.
And presently, although David held some information about their transactions, he certainly couldn't take them all down at once.
If they showed a tough stance now, they might be able to secure a significant say.
Even if things took a turn for the worse later, they could simply capitulate if need be. After all, the National Tax Service was after money, right? They wouldn't utterly destroy them, would they?
In any case, this approach was better than just meekly giving in and paying up right now.
Having come to this conclusion, Marcellus replied into the phone, "I understand, Mr. Rodrigozki."
