Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Sam sits at his workstation, a thoughtful expression on his face as he contemplates his next simulation project.

Gail provided him with this dedicated workspace in SimQuest, and he is thankful for it. However, as his gaze drifts to the C-Rank simulation gem resting on the edge of his desk, a frown creases his brow.

It was the next step in his Developer career, but Sam's mana reserves were simply not sufficient to activate it.

Gail, ever the observant manager, notices Sam's troubled expression and approaches his desk. "Sam, is everything alright?" she asks, her tone laced with concern. "You seem a bit distracted."

Sam looks up, offering Gail a rueful smile. "Ah, Gail, I was just... well, I've been thinking about the C-Rank simulation gem and how to best utilize it for my next project."

Gail nods, her gaze understanding. "I see. The C-Rank gems can be quite the challenge, especially for a developer at your stage. What's holding you back?"

Sam gestures towards the gem, his brow furrowing. "It's the mana requirement. I just don't have enough stored up to even activate it, let alone start building a simulation. It would take me months to a year to reach the required Mana, but it feels like a waste letting the gem rot."

Gail offered a reassuring smile as she approached Sam's desk.

"Sam, there's no need to rush. You've already shown your talent with the Devil May Cry simulation." She placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Why don't you focus on developing some D or E-Rank gems in the meantime? That way, you can build up your mana reserves before taking on the C-Rank."

Sam considered her suggestion, nodding slowly. "I suppose you're right." He sighed, drumming his fingers on the desk. "I just don't want to lose momentum, but I also don't want to put out anything subpar."

Seeing Sam's impatience, Gail offers another suggestion. "Well, what if you worked with other developers? Collaborating could help you overcome the mana hurdle and bring your vision to life even faster."

Sam considered Gail's suggestion, his brow furrowing in thought.

"Working with other people, huh..." He drummed his fingers on the desk, the prospect both intriguing and unsettling.

Collaborating would certainly solve the issue of the mana requirement, but Sam was so accustomed to working alone. The idea of relying on others made him uneasy. Still, the prospect of completing his ambitious C-Rank simulation faster was enticing.

Gail watched the gears turning in Sam's mind, a gentle smile on her face.

"I know it might be out of your comfort zone," she said, "but having a team could really accelerate your progress. And I have a few developers in mind who I think would be a great fit."

Sam perked up, his eyes meeting Gail's. "You have someone in mind?"

Gail nodded, a warm smile spreading across her face. "As a matter of fact, I do. Want me to introduce you?"

"Well, it wouldn't hurt to meet a fellow developer, I suppose." Sam replied, a hint of curiosity in his voice.

Gail's smile widened. "Great!" She quickly pulled out her phone, already dialing a number. "Let me call her and see if she's available."

Sam watched as Gail stepped away, her voice muffled as she spoke on the phone. He drummed his fingers on the desk, his mind racing with the possibilities and challenges of working with someone else.

Moments later, Gail returned, her expression bright. "She's available and eager to meet you. Shall we go introduce you?"

Gail led Sam to the cafeteria in SimQuest. When they arrived, Sam's eyes fell upon a woman in her early 20s who appeared nervous. Gail stepped forward, gesturing towards the young woman.

"Sam, this is Yuna Minami. Yuna, this is Sam Briar."

Yuna's mop of soft, brown hair fell just above her neck, framing her hazel eyes that sparkled with a mix of curiosity and hope. Her attire, casual and practical, consisted of denim overalls over a crisp white shirt. A pen often tucked behind her ear or a sketchbook peeking out of her bag.

"H-Hello! It's so nice to meet you," Yuna said, her voice tinged with nervous excitement. She bowed in a 90-degree angle, her eyes shining with admiration. "I'm a big fan of your work, Sam."

Sam offered a warm smile, stepping forward. "The pleasure is all mine, Yuna."

Gail continues to speak, her tone warm and encouraging. "Yuna has been going through a bit of a creative slump lately, but I know she has so much potential." She places a reassuring hand on Yuna's shoulder, causing the young developer to offer a sheepish smile.

"I'm sorry about that," Yuna says, her voice soft. "I've just been...struggling to find inspiration, you know? But I'm really eager to work on something new." Her gaze shifts to Sam, eyes shining with admiration.

Gail nods understandingly. "Well, that's why I thought you two might make a great team." She turns to Sam, a hint of excitement in her expression. "Sam here is looking to collaborate on a C-Rank simulation, and I think your skills would complement each other perfectly."

Yuna's eyes widen, and she can barely contain her enthusiasm. "A C-Rank? That's...that's incredible! I would be honored to work with you, Sam." She clasps her hands together, almost bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Sam studies Yuna, taking in her nervous yet eager demeanor. He can see the spark of passion in her eyes, and a small smile tugs at the corner of his lips. "Well, Gail seems to think you'd be a good fit," he says, his voice calm and measured. "And I'm certainly intrigued by the prospect of collaborating."

Yuna's face lights up, and she nods enthusiastically. "I promise I'll do my best! I won't let you down, Sam." She pauses, a hint of uncertainty creeping into her expression. "That is, if you're willing to work with me?"

Sam considers her for a moment, then nods. "I think it could be a good opportunity for both of us," he says, his tone reassuring. "Why don't we get started?"

Gail beams, clapping her hands together. "Wonderful! I knew you two would hit it off." She gestures towards the door. "Shall we head back to your office, Sam? We can discuss the details of the project and get you both set up."

Sam nods, glancing at Yuna with a hint of curiosity. "Lead the way."
