Dimensional Guild: Almighty Chuunibyou

"Man, how unlucky can I be to get an F on that test," a young man muttered in frustration, dressed in what looked like a high school uniform.

The young man had an above-average appearance—not someone you would call handsome or unattractive, just an ordinary guy like anyone else. He wore round glasses, his eyes were a dark brown typical of most Asians, and his wavy hair was long enough to reach his shoulders, giving him a bit of a lion-like look.

"I should've studied a week before the test if I knew this would happen," he sighed in annoyance. Unfortunately, there was no use complaining about it now.

Whatever, I'll just forget about it, he thought, shaking his head to clear his mind. He then shifted his focus back to the object in his hand—his phone.

There were numerous posts filled with hot and trending news, and he could see just how many people were liking and commenting on them. Among them, one piece of news caught his attention.

Another hoax... When will the internet stop being filled with this kind of nonsense? He shook his head after seeing an article claiming that NASA had discovered a massive, strange energy wave spreading across the universe.

In his opinion, that was completely impossible. If it were true, Earth would've already felt the impact by now.

To confirm the accuracy of the news, he quickly searched for NASA's official account. Just as he was about to type it in, something unexpected happened.

"KYAAAAHH!!!"

It was a scream filled with fear and panic—coming from a woman.

In an instant, the young man, along with other pedestrians, instinctively turned their attention to the source of the sound.

There, a woman stood with her eyes wide open, her hand covering her mouth as she stared ahead. In front of her was a small child, a toddler, who had fallen.

Normally, this wouldn't have been anything out of the ordinary. However, the dire situation was that the toddler had tripped and fallen—not on a safe spot, but right in the middle of the street, where a speeding truck was rapidly approaching the child.

*Shit!!!* he exclaimed internally, and perhaps everyone else witnessing the scene felt the same.

I need to rescue her!!!

Having been raised in a family that valued strong morals and character, the young man had a kind and conscientious heart. His reflexes urged him to save the toddler.

Or so he thought, as his body remained frozen in place, unable to move, watching the event unfold helplessly.

He didn't know why, but one thing was certain—he was terrified. He didn't want to die. There was still so much he wanted to do in this world, and he wasn't ready to throw it all away.

*I'm sorry.* He closed his eyes, filled with guilt, and prayed for a miracle to happen. And sure enough, soon after, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed, accompanied by the loud honking of the truck.

*HONKKKK!!!*

*BANG!*

The sickening thud of flesh meeting metal was followed by the crashing sound of impact and the truck's horn blaring on a continuous loop, echoing throughout the street. Everyone there could only stare in shock or close their eyes.

Moments later, the young man and the other pedestrians came to their senses. Gasps and panicked cries filled the air.

"Someone, call an ambulance!"

"Little girl, are you alright?!"

"Oh my God! Did that high school girl just sacrifice herself to save the toddler?"

"I can't believe that girl is a hero."

"Oh God... look at her condition now!" Exclamations of shock, admiration, and urgency poured from the onlookers.

The young man could only stand there, dazed, staring at the body of the high school girl lying there in critical condition. Soon after, he felt the reflexive churning of his stomach, the urge to vomit rising—this was the first time he had witnessed such a gruesome scene firsthand.

Yet, that wasn't the most disturbing part. The overwhelming feeling of guilt weighed even heavier as he looked at the girl who had died in his place.

*If only I had gone to help, maybe that girl would still be alive now!* he thought, clenching his fists tightly until his knuckles turned white.

He even believed that if he had run to save her, there was a good chance he wouldn't have been hit by the truck, considering his speed—he was one of the school's track athletes, after all.

But what was done was done. There was no changing the past. With a heavy heart, he turned and made his way home, his mind troubled for the entire journey.

"Damn it! What a crappy day—first getting a bad score, and then watching an accident happen while being completely powerless," he sighed tiredly, massaging his forehead.

I'm so drained... I just want to get home, crash into bed, Maybe if I can sleep, I can forget everything that happened today, just for a while, he thought desperately.

"Anyway, let's just forget about it. Thinking about it too much will only make things worse," he said, though deep down he knew it wasn't as easy as he made it sound.

After all, something that shocking and terrible was bound to stick in his memory for the rest of his life. The guilt he felt only made it more impossible to forget.

He then picked up his phone again, trying to distract himself from everything that had happened. As he was about to open an app, his hand paused—he suddenly remembered something.

"Oh right, I forgot to check if that NASA news was real. Let's check it now," he muttered, opening the app and searching for NASA's official account.

"This is it!!!" His eyes widened, an expression of shock spread across his face as he stared in disbelief at what was displayed in front of him.

"Is this for real?!" he said, rubbing his eyes repeatedly to confirm that what he saw wasn't an illusion.

Realizing it wasn't an illusion, his heart started pounding, and an excited expression spread across his face. He even forgot the sadness and bitterness of what had happened earlier.

It was a strange reaction for someone who had just received news of a potential disaster, but it couldn't be helped. For him, someone living an ordinary, boring life, something exciting like a potential catastrophe made him feel exhilarated because it meant something unique and special was happening in his otherwise monotonous life.

This is what I've been craving, he thought. Something like this makes me feel more alive in this dull, black-and-white world.

He then opened the comments section of NASA's post, which was already flooded with a variety of reactions. Some comments expressed fear, others offered prayers, and some claimed the post was nothing but a conspiracy theory.

Seeing all of it, a smile formed on his face, and his excitement only grew. He closed his eyes, imagining all sorts of scenarios that might happen to Earth because of this event.

I wonder, will there be dungeons appearing all over the world? Or maybe a towering structure like in those Korean manhwas? Or perhaps a revival aura like in Chinese novels?!

And soon enough, with his delusional and imaginative mind, he began picturing himself as the protagonist—gaining cheats, becoming powerful, and eventually having a harem filled with beautiful girls.

Imagining all of that, a foolish grin appeared on his face. Thankfully, there was no one around to see it, otherwise, he might have gotten some weird looks.

But as he walked while imagining all these things, an anomaly occurred. A short distance away, a black hole appeared, its presence so strange that it seemed as if reality itself had been erased from that spot.

Its size was large enough for a person to fall into, putting the young man in danger. Unfortunately, there was no one around besides him to warn of the strange appearance of the black hole.

And so, unaware of the anomaly ahead, the young man continued walking, eyes closed, lost in his daydreams, heading straight toward the black hole. With each step, he got closer, until finally, his foot stepped right into it.

Someday, I will conquer the world, eventually reach the realm of the gods, and contro— AHHH!!!

His daydream was interrupted as a sudden shift in gravity, along with the feeling of weightlessness, jolted him violently. His body began falling toward the hole.

"HELP ME!!!" his scream echoed loudly as his body started falling deeper. Unfortunately, there was no one around to witness it.

As a result, the young man kept falling deeper, his scream fading as he descended, until eventually, the hole itself began to shrink and disappeared from the spot, as if it had never existed.

At the same time, space agencies around the world detected another anomaly in space-time, affecting planet Earth. They also noted the appearance of strange black holes at random locations worldwide. Fortunately, there seemed to be no casualties—except for one person, the young man, who was directly affected by the event.

Since then, his parents searched desperately for him but failed, and his mysterious disappearance became an unsolved mystery. Eventually, a leaked CCTV video from NASA was released to the public, showing the young man falling into the strange black hole, making his fate an inexplicable enigma.
