Exiled Young Girl’s Territory Development Record: The Result of the Villainous Young Lady Who Was Exiled Before the Scenario Began and Did Whatever She Wanted for the People.

Chapter 4: The Exiled Young Girl Learns About the Village's Current State

After making the former bandits swear an oath, they were assigned to work as a militia and general laborers as part of their penance.
During this process, I discovered through interviews that they hadn’t committed any major crimes since coming to the village. In fact, they had even married widows who lost their husbands in goblin attacks or orphaned girls, and had built families of their own.
Yeah, it was definitely a good decision not to execute them on the spot. If I had done that, we would have lost valuable workers and would have faced backlash from their new families, which could have made village governance impossible.
Now, regarding the current state of Scarletford, I had a look around the village chief’s residence, and as expected, the situation was as bad as anticipated.
There were no resident lists, no records of harvest yields, and certainly no tax records or budget management.
What was unexpected, however, was that there weren’t even any records from before Will became the village chief.
Since Will was the leader of the bandits, it’s understandable that such administrative tasks might have been neglected.
But didn’t the knight who was the village chief before him receive some kind of training in this area?
Even I, who don’t know much about administrative matters, understand that creating a list of residents and collecting taxes based on their earnings is basic knowledge.
Sigh. It looks like I’ll have to figure things out step by step.
So, with the knowledge that staying in this house won’t yield any further information, I decided to meet with each villager individually to listen to their stories and get acquainted.
The first place I visited was a large farm within the village.
“Ah, My Lady. This old man here is Bob. He grows wheat and such.”
Bob wasn’t quite an old man, but he was certainly older than an uncle.
“Nice to meet you, Bob. I’m Olivia Ainsley.”
“Yes,My Ladyship. I’m Bob.”
Bob seemed a bit confused. Given that I’m only eight years old in appearance, it’s understandable.
“So, Bob, could you tell me about the village?”
“Yes, of course. What would you like to know?”
“Anything you can tell me. What crops do you grow? How much do you harvest? And are there any problems you’re facing?”
“Understood. We mainly grow wheat, but we also cultivate various other crops such as potatoes, carrots, soybeans, spinach, beets, and onions. We also grow a small amount of flax. However, harvests can vary due to weather, pests, and monster attacks…”
“I see.”
It’s good to know they grow a variety of crops. If we can expand production, we might be able to make things work.
“Are there any problems you’re facing?”
“Well, yes. The main issue is monsters. And, um…”
“What is it?”
“Well, actually…”
“Actually?”
“Um…”
What’s going on? Bob seems hesitant.
“Come on, Bob, just say it. It’ll come out eventually.”
“Come out?”
“The village chief… Actually, there are zombies…”
“Zombies? When did they start appearing?”
“Since before last summer.”
“Before summer? So, after Will…”
“Yes, it seems to have started after the goblin attacks.”
I thought so. Will must have left behind unfinished business when he died at the hands of goblins.
“My Lady! The zombies…”
“I know. They were people from this village, weren’t they?”
“…”
“But you see, Bob, those who became zombies are suffering even more. We need to send them to the afterlife as soon as possible.”
“But…”
“There are many families in the village with relatives who became zombies, right? Even more reason to act. Zombies lose their sanity while wandering. We mustn’t let their families or friends be forced to harm them.”
“I understand, but…”
“Didn’t you call any clergy?”
“We wanted to, but…”
“Funds for calling a clergyman were unavailable?”
“Yes, unfortunately. The Church of Light is quite money-oriented, and we couldn’t afford a priest…”
“I see. Don’t worry. I’ll handle the zombies properly.”
“You will,My Lady?”
“Yes. Do the zombies appear every night?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll take care of it tonight. If anyone wishes to say their goodbyes, please gather in the village square by evening. And let the others know too.”
“Yes,Young Lady.”
With that, I gathered information about the zombies appearing in Scarletford.
That evening, I arrived at the village square. Many people had gathered, and I was already familiar with all of them.
“Is it really true that you’re going to handle the zombies,My Lady ?”
“Yes, I’ll be sending the souls of the dead to the afterlife.”
“But the Church of Light doesn’t…”
“That’s a misconception. You’ve seen me send souls to the afterlife many times at Southberry Marquis’s estate, haven’t you? Both light and darkness are just facets of divine power.”
“But… zombies…”
Marie is quite the worrywart. But there’s no way I’ll be harmed by zombies, so they should be reassured.
“Don’t worry. Leave it to me. By the way, they should be coming soon.”
My words brought a wave of tension among those gathered.
“Ahh…”
“Ahh…”
“Uuugh…”
Suddenly, moans began to echo from various parts of the village.
