Otherworldly Skeleton Evolution

Chapter 1 - I've Become Cannon Fodder Skeleton?

“Hey, what’s up with you, Skeleton? Why aren’t you moving? Hurry up and go fight monsters!”

A soft and sweet voice echoed in Jiang Cheng’s ears as he gradually woke up from a daze.

Opening his eyes…

Huh… where are my eyes?

Why can’t I lift my eyelids?

Jiang Cheng hurriedly felt around his eye sockets, only to encounter emptiness.

“What the heck! Where are my eyes? What’s going on?”

Occasional clicking sounds came from his joints.

Jiang Cheng lifted his arm and discovered that there were only bare bones, with a Bone Blade extending from the joints devoid of flesh.

Lowering his head, he examined his body.

“Where’s my flesh? Damn, where is it?”

Dizziness overwhelmed Jiang Cheng’s consciousness for a moment, almost unable to accept reality.

However, in the midst of his dizziness, a surge of information suddenly flooded his mind.

[Congratulations, the host has successfully crossed into the game world and activated the Divine Evolution System.]

[Data loading successful. The host’s current identity is an Undead Player’s summoned Common Skeleton. Please quickly earn Evolution Points to evolve, or you will disappear.]

After listening to the System’s introduction, he finally understood what had happened to him.

“So, I’ve crossed into the game world of ‘The Great Wasteland’? And I’ve become a Skeleton summoned by a female player?”

“And there’s an Evolution System too?”

One minute later, Jiang Cheng passed through the initial confusion and gradually accepted reality. Subsequently, he sighed helplessly.

Before crossing over, he was just an ordinary person, albeit with decent gaming skills, hailed as a gaming god. But after an injury at the age of twenty, he could only work as a substitute player in a gaming club, and due to overwork and staying up late, he died suddenly.

Unexpectedly, after crossing over, he arrived in the game world of The Great Wasteland, and became a Skeleton summoned by a female Undead Mage.

Looking at his skeletal frame, Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but feel a bit amused and helpless. No flesh, only bones, and no eyes. Every movement caused a clicking sound from his body.

“Such twists of fate. I wonder how devastated my mom and sister would be if they knew I died?”

“Sigh…” Jiang Cheng fell silent for a moment.

But in an instant, he regained his spirit, feeling somewhat relieved.

“This could be considered a different kind of rebirth. I was practically dead in that world. Since I’m here, might as well see what the System can offer me.”

Name: Jiang Cheng

Level: 1

Race: Undead Skeleton (Summoner: A Silly Cutie)

HP: 100

Mana: 0

Attack: 2 (Bone Blade +3)

Defense: 1

Weapon: Bone Blade

Evolution Points: 0

Enhancement Points: 100

[Note: The host possesses the Super Evolution System. Killing monsters can earn Evolution Points for evolution, and the evolution direction is determined by the host.]

[Enhancement Points: Can strengthen equipment. Enhancement Points can be obtained by killing Elite-level or higher monsters.]

After checking his panel attributes, Jiang Cheng quickly adjusted his mindset and began to plan.

The game had just started its public testing, and A Silly Cutie was an Undead Player. The primary skill of an Undead Player at level one was summoning Skeletons.

They could summon ten Skeletons to fight monsters, which was an advantage of the Undead Mages compared to other classes.

But that was A Silly Cutie’s advantage, nothing to do with him.

When Skeletons were summoned, they were destined to be treated as cannon fodder by players and could be sacrificed at any time.

But Jiang Cheng was different. If he died, he might really die. He couldn’t afford to take that risk.

Since he was given a second chance at life and possessed the Evolution System, even as a Skeleton, he wanted to be the most powerful one.

He couldn’t afford to die; he had to rid himself of the cannon fodder status!

Though he had become a Skeleton, he still retained the superb gaming skills and experience from his previous life, as well as the Evolution System!

What he lacked now was attack power.

To strike while the iron was hot, he needed to enhance his attack power. The initial attack power of this Skeleton was too low.

He decided to use Enhancement Points.

The System had given him 100 Enhancement Points to start with, and he naturally wouldn’t hesitate to use them.

“I’ll enhance the Bone Blade.”

[Enhancing the Bone Blade requires 10 Enhancement Points.]

[Commencing enhancement. Enhancement successful. Bone Blade upgraded to Sturdy Bone Blade.]

“Weapon: Sturdy Bone Blade (Common)”

“Attack power +6.”

“Description: The Bone Blade, enhanced to be much sturdier.”

“Enhance again!”

[Congratulations, spending 20 Enhancement Points. Enhancement of the Sturdy Bone Blade successful, upgraded to Sharp Bone Blade.]

[Congratulations, spending 50 Enhancement Points. Enhancement of the Sharp Bone Blade successful, upgraded to Burst Bone Blade.]

[Enhancement failed again, insufficient Enhancement Points balance.]

“Burst Bone Blade?” Jiang Cheng’s heart leaped with joy as he quickly examined it.

“Item: Burst Bone Blade (Elite)”

“Attack power: 15.”

“5% increase in critical strike chance.”

“Description: The Bone Blade, enhanced to be particularly fierce.”

“Compared to Common quality equipment, it’s a higher-level blue Elite quality? And with a 5% increase in critical strike chance, I’ll be much more ferocious in monster hunting.”

Jiang Cheng gripped the slightly heavier Bone Blade in his hand and felt eager to try it out.

Shaking his head, relying on his gaming experience from before, he first surveyed the surrounding environment, a habit he had developed as a gaming god.

In the clear sky, a group of Skeletons was surrounding a skeletal Wolf, their attacks displaying damage numbers like “-1” and “-2”.

And beside him, there was a cute girl staring at him intently.

“What’s wrong with this Skeleton? Is it dumb? Why is it just standing there motionless? Does it think it can talk? Why does it keep staring at its own knife?”

Zhang Mengmeng waved the wooden staff in her hand and poked Jiang Cheng’s spine bone, wearing a curious expression on her face.

She was also a semi-experienced gamer, but she had never seen such a situation before.

Other Skeletons were already fighting the Skeleton Wolf under her command. This Skeleton, however, kept staring at its Bone Blade, mumbling to itself, yet making no sound, pondering life?

Aren’t Skeletons supposed to be mindless summoned creatures? How can it still be pondering life?

“Maybe this Skeleton was afraid of death in its previous life? So it’s afraid to fight?”

Zhang Mengmeng was somewhat dumbfounded, but when she followed Jiang Cheng’s gaze to his Bone Blade, she was suddenly surprised.

“Why does this blade feel different?!” Zhang Mengmeng stared at the blade with suspicion, but after a moment, she shook her head.

“It must be my imagination.”

But the next moment, the Jiang Cheng in front of her suddenly moved, swaying his skeletal frame and slowly walking forward.

When he reached the battlefield between the Skeleton soldiers and the Skeleton Wolf, he swung his Bone Blade heavily down onto the Wolf’s neck!
