Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Being Wronged
"I'm willing to shoot later, but I'm just too tired now. Why don't you come and massage my shoulders and fetch me some tea and water? Maybe after I rest, I'll be able to shoot?"
Meng Ru looked at Bai Sheng'er leisurely, with a hint of provocation in her eyes.
It was blunt and unmasked. The people around had long since become accustomed to Bai Sheng'er's arrogance, protected by Pei Yansi at the company, and her terrible reputation meant no one came forward to help her.
Seeing the situation, Bai Sheng'er reluctantly stepped forward and began massaging Meng Ru's shoulders.
Feeling unsatisfied, Meng Ru then had her fetch water and make tea, tormenting her for a while before finally declaring that she was ready to shoot.
By this time, Bai Sheng'er was exhausted and had scalded her hands making tea. She finally managed to get the 'great deity' Meng Ru up on stage to start filming.
She was working on the basics under the stage when she noticed Shen Heyu, who had been watching the drama unfold from the side. She hadn't forgotten that ever since she entered the studio, Shen Heyu had been talking with Meng Ru.
It had to be Shen Heyu instructing Meng Ru!
She glared fiercely at Shen Heyu, resentment brewing within her, vowing to settle this score later.
Shen Heyu was seriously doing her job, supervising everyone's work, completely ignoring the glares from Bai Sheng'er.
Halfway through the shoot, the director suddenly said, "Director Shen, do you think adding a small background character here would be better? After all, it is a promotion for a fantasy game, and having just Meng Ru flying around might lack visual impact."
Shen Heyu thought over his suggestion and after reviewing the ad proposal, responded, "That's possible, but we don't have any stars available now."
Such a background role didn't need much fame, just good looks.
But all the minor celebrities in the company had already been arranged to go boost their popularity at some girl group performance, and those with higher status disdained such work.
While hesitating, Meng Ru said, "Why not let Bai Sheng'er do it? As long as she looks pretty, it'll do. Even President Pei thinks she's attractive, so she definitely won't be bad."
Everyone's gaze fell on Bai Sheng'er as Meng Ru spoke.
They all had the look of spectators watching a drama.
Bai Sheng'er never intended to enter the entertainment industry.
She had always looked down on the stars in the industry, seeing them as just playthings for capital. And if she went on camera this time… Moreover, Pei Yansi had clearly stated that he did not want her in the entertainment industry because it was too filthy.
Bai Sheng'er didn't want to participate and hurriedly turned to Shen Heyu.
Her innocent eyes carried a plea for help.
As director, Shen Heyu certainly had the authority to decide whether she could take this role.
But Shen Heyu just chuckled coldly before saying, "She is indeed beautiful. A person Pei Yan protects is definitely not ordinary. I think it's fine, but I'm wondering what the director thinks?"
The director laughed, "I always listen to Meng Ru. She has particular opinions on how to pick her partners to best utilize her talents."
"Then it's Bai Sheng'er," Shen Heyu said softly.
Bai Sheng'er turned pale.
She didn't want to do it, and Pei Yansi had said that if she showed up as someone in the entertainment industry, other capitals would notice her, and he would be displeased.
But no one was helping her, and with Meng Ru urging her, she dared not like before bring up Pei Yansi's name and had no choice but to brace herself and take the stage.
Someone hooked her up to a wire to enable her to fly as Meng Ru's background in the scene.
This kind of background character had to fly higher than Meng Ru, as all the camera focus was on Meng Ru. If she didn't fly high enough, it wouldn't provide the right contrast; she had to fly twice as high as her.
Before she even began to fly, dangling in midair, Bai Sheng'er was already screaming frantically in terror, her eyes turning red.
None of the crew members below had ever seen anyone cry because of hanging from wires; they couldn't help but laugh.
Hearing their laughter, Bai Sheng'er felt both angry and scared, yet she couldn't suppress the fear deep inside her and kept shrieking.
Meng Ru sneered coldly, showing disdain when she saw her like this and took the initiative to control the wires, flying towards her.
As she approached, the person responsible for her wire rig, who had worked with her for a long time, seemed to recognize her intention and secretly lowered her height.
Meng Ru stopped where she was originally in the air. Bai Sheng'er, terrified, struggled incessantly; the wire instructor couldn't control her as she suddenly crashed into Meng Ru.
"Thud—"
Meng Ru fell hard to the ground.
As the top star landed, the entire place was shocked, the work halted, and everyone rushed over to attend to her.
"Are you alright, Sister Meng Ru?"
Meng Ru grimaced, her features tightly drawn, and said softly as though in pain, "I fell; my bones..."
She blinked, and tears started rolling down.
"Hurry, take her to the hospital!"
Before being lifted onto a stretcher, Meng Ru deliberately cried to Bai Sheng'er, "I was just admiring your beauty and gave you an opportunity to work with me. Was there a need to sabotage me like this?"
Those around heard this and also stared at Bai Sheng'er.
"That's right, we all saw it. You struggled too much, causing the wire instructor to lose control, and you ended up in Sister Meng Ru's path."
"Having planned to fly behind her, you had to come up and push her down. What were you thinking!"
"She's definitely still holding a grudge from when she had to fetch water for Sister Meng Ru earlier!"
"..."
Bai Sheng'er had just been lowered from the wires and was still standing there, utterly shaken.
Suddenly hearing so many people accusing her, she was momentarily stunned before crying out, "It has nothing to do with me, she came towards me on her own..."
"Stop pretending; we all saw it. You crashed into her!"
Meng Ru's assistant, quite upset though aware of the truth, could only follow orders since the sponsors disliked Bai Sheng'er. Stepping forward, the assistant angrily pushed Bai Sheng'er.
Caught off guard, she fell to the ground, crying incessantly, "It really wasn't me…"
"Whether it was you or not, you know it yourself!" the assistant scoffed coldly, then walked away with Meng Ru.
The crew had no choice but to halt the filming, but they were not in a hurry internally since this session had been purposely scheduled earlier by Meng Ru herself, and time was not an issue.
In a corner, someone was watching the scene, continuously recording everything on their cellphone.
Shen Heyu was also going to the hospital as she was in charge of these stars, including Meng Ru. Before leaving, she walked up to Bai Sheng'er and smiled, "How does it feel to be wrongfully accused?"
Bai Sheng'er looked up, bewildered at first, but quickly realized and snapped, "Was it you who did this?!"
She sneered, "You think I'm like you, resorting to such means?"
Then she turned around and left without a glance at Bai Sheng'er.
