Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Grand Grimoire
The spirit awakening was an outstanding success, with three individuals possessing 'innate full soul power' hailing from the same village. This phenomenon was unprecedented in all of Soul Land, a remarkable achievement made possible by the presence of these three brothers. Unbeknownst to them, their existence has sown the seeds of transformative change throughout the soul land.
"Congratulations!" proclaimed Wang Ying, as she caught Wang Jin and An Chen by their necks. "You have outdone yourselves".
"Surely, to think you three will awaken with innate full soul power," said Wang Lian as he rubbed his stomach.
"Indeed such a miracle was unexpected even for me," said Sheng Xian, agreeing with Wang Lian. "To think the three little devils of Soul Shrine would be geniuses instead"
Listening to all this praise, Wang Jin and An Chen couldn't help but be proud, while Sheng Zhi smiled quietly, watching them from the background.
"Enough chitchat food is ready. Now come in," said Sheng Yu.
The aroma of the luscious food crept out slowly. Wang Quin and Sheng Yu were not only known for their beauty but also their cooking. Legends said that when the two cooked together, even the dead would creep out of their graves. Praises could surely wait.
Wang Jin and An Chen moved toward the house, their mouth drooling, and everyone followed suit.
Everyone sat at the table silently enjoying the food, after all, such divine food must be enjoyed with peace.
After dinner, when everyone had their hearts and stomachs full of delicious food., Sheng Zhi stood up and spoke, "Um, Mom, Mrs. Wang, may I ask you something?"
"Go ahead," spoke Mrs. Wang as she looked at Mrs. Sheng.
"Ahem, can we stay at the Spirit Tree tonight?" said Sheng Zhi hesitatingly, he remembered what happened when An Chen and Wang Jin Stayed at the tree without their permission, surely he wanted to escape that fate, but maybe the method was too suicidal.
"Go ahead," spoke Mrs. Sheng and Mrs. Wang in sync.
Chen and Jin were amazed like never before, they inquired of them in a loud tone "Why?"
In response to that Mrs. Wang gave a smile and said "Well, Sheng Zhi is a responsible kid; I know he will take care of you." Mrs. Sheng nodded in agreement.
"You know when they were three and I couldn't figure out what's troubling these two, he would always figure it out first and make them calm down. He is more of a mother than I am" said Mrs. Wang in a joyful tone, everyone else nodded in agreement.
An Chen and Wang Jin looked at each other and then at Sheng Zhi as if they are saying "Is she my mother or yours?"
Sheng Zhi, who was used to those glares, bid his family farewell and moved to the Spirit tree along with the two of them.
On their way, they met many villagers who praised them for their luck and of course the envious gazes they received, sent goosebumps down their spines.
They moved quickly so that they could reach the tree before the moon came out.
{The Spirit Tree}
"So, what do you know?" inquired Sheng from the other two.
Giggle* "Well guess what I got," said Wang as he moved his right arm to the front.
"What?" asked Chen as he lay down on the floor as if he wasn't trying to listen.
Suddenly, a golden light emitted from Jin's hand, and in front of them stood another spirit—a golden wooden sword.
"Wah… wa what, A… a Dual spirit!" exclaimed Chen, surprised by Jin's revelation. Zhi was just as surprised; neither of them expected that Jin would be getting a double spirit.
"Well, what do you have to say Zhi?" asked Jin with a smug look on his face. Sheng snapped out of the shock and went back to his usual calm dementor he analyzed Jin's Spirit for some time then spoke "Hmm? Do you know anything about their effect?"
"Currently nothing," replied Jin shaking his head.
Sheng got lost in deep thought, he sometimes glanced at the spirit and sometimes at Jin, a wooden sword in golden color, and the sigil on his arm. He remembered seeing them somewhere but couldn't remember it now. Disappointed with himself he looked at Chen and asked "What about you Chen, did you get a Dual spirit as well?"
"Well, mine isn't a dual spirit; it is only a sigil," replied Chen with a sad face. He wasn't feeling well, after all, out of three of them Jin was the one to get a dual spirit, if was Sheng then it would have made a bit sense but Jin, the sheer thought was unbearable to him.
"I see," Zhi stood up. "Well, I haven't summoned my spirit yet, but I know it's not dual." Sheng brought out his arm getting ready to summon his spirit.
"Seems like I am the lucky one here," said Jin with a grin. His indifference toward An Chen was natural. As the middle child in his previous life, he and An Chen often fought—until Sheng stepped in and stopped them. Jin loved Chen dearly, but, of course, the authority to tease one's sibling comes with that love. He looked at Shen who was trying to summon his spirit, an old and tattered book appeared Sheng tried to open it but its cover wouldn't budge.
"What are you doing Zhi?" asked Chen, curiously moving forward in Sheng's direction.
"Nothing, just trying to see what my spirit has got," replied Sheng as he tried to open the book. "Mind helping me?"
"Okay," replied Chen as he got up and pulled the book from the other side., Suddenly, the cover opened, and Chen, who was trying to open it, ended up falling. Sheng on the other hand, caught the book and began reading it.
"What!" exclaimed Sheng as if he had seen something unbelievable in front of his eyes.
Jin and Chen, who were already curious, rushed in to take a look.
