The Blockhead Became an Overpowered Magician

chapter 1

1 – Becoming a magician (1)

The man who regained consciousness on the bed looked around in surprise.

‘What is… where am I?’

He was in an unfamiliar log cabin.

Outside the window, there was nothing but a vista of snow-covered woods.

Judging by the snowy landscape and the trees, it did not seem to be Korea.

He sat up on the bed with ease, only then realizing he had ‘easily’ raised his body.

“……”

His limbs were intact, and the constant fatigue and dizziness that always plagued him were nowhere to be found.

Right now, his body felt buoyant and weightless, as if he were floating in the air.

While looking around, feeling something was off, he found a mirror on the table.

The moment he saw his reflection in the mirror, he was startled.

A sharp jawline, blue eyes, and rich golden hair.

The face in the mirror was not the familiar frail Korean he always saw, but a handsome young Westerner.

“…A dream? But it feels too real.”

[Quest: Finishing the Past]

[Find the mentor’s letter.]

[Reward: Fragment of Memory, 1000P]

“Fantasia?”

It was familiar.

The interface he always saw in the ‘Fantasia’ game he often played on the sickbed.

Moreover, it was identical to the game, even providing points as a reward.

“… Shall I go out for now?”

There was nothing more to inspect in the room.

Although he hesitated for a moment, he decided to leave the room. It was because there was nothing to change by being here.

When he cautiously opened the door and came out, the space spread out before his eyes was the living room of a log cabin.

It was quiet.

The interior echoed only the sound of the crackling fireplace and his footsteps.

“Regardless of how much I contemplate, this isn’t a dream.”

The spectacle and sensations spread out in front of him were all realistic.

The warmth of the fireplace seeping through his fingers, realistic scenery in front of his eyes, the tension that made his heart race, and all.

To call this a dream after feeling such things is forced.

He silently accepted his situation. Cool-headedness was always one of his strengths.

“Weren’t they telling me to find a letter?”

There was nothing else to do. He decided to follow the quest first.

He passed the place where he woke up and headed to another room in the cabin.

– Thump

The door was locked.

With a slight hope, he knocked, but there was not any sign of life inside.

Just when he was about to give up and look for the key,

[Tutorial Quest: Skill]

[Proceed with the quest through the <Telekinesis> magic.]

[Reward: 1000P]

“Ah, was I a sorcerer?”

<Psychokinesis> Magic had always been a useful skill in games. At that time, all it took was a few keystrokes…

“Uh… Status window.”

Surprisingly, nothing happened.

“…What does it want me to do? Status?”

The quest window appears, but the status window doesn’t. Then how am I supposed to use the skill?

“esc? qwer?”

The shortcut keys didn’t work either. Although, I didn’t expect it to….

“But, how can I use Psychokinesis…”

– The jingle

Just at that moment, some energy pulsed from around my heart, and the cup that was on the dining table moved.

“…Psychokinesis?”

– Clatter!

Reflecting on the sensation I just had, I conjured up the image of using the skill.

<Psychokinesis>

Suddenly, the skill name appeared in a corner of my vision, and the cup flew through the air to my hand at my will.

“Wow.”

[Tutorial Quest: Skill Completion]

[+1000P]

‘It’s really like a game world…’

I put the cup down for a moment and cast the psychokinesis spell on the door.

– Clank!

The sound of the door’s locking mechanism moving was heard, and it began to slowly open.

I carefully stepped into the room.

The bed was neatly made, and traces of someone working were still visible on the desk.

Pens, papers, and various tools were scattered on the desk, and a bookshelf filled with books stood against the wall.

My eyes were drawn to the half-open drawer of the desk.

I found several letters in there.

One of the letters was open, the others seemed to be sealed.

[Quest Completed]

[+1000P]

[Reward: You have acquired a Fragment of Memory]

“Ugh…!”

Suddenly, a whirlwind of memories started to crash down on him, accompanied by a harsh headache.

He groaned in deep pain, trying to process the onslaught of information rushing into his mind.

“Phew….”

And as his headache began to fade, he took a deep breath to calm his body and mind.

The fragment of memory had belonged to the original owner of this body.

‘The name is Eren….’

Like it or not, it seemed he was going to live as Eren from now on.

The acquired memory consisted of only simple information about himself and some memories of his time spent with his master in this humble shack.

‘Was my master Agnes Sensia!?’

The face in his memories belonged to a named character from a game.

A face he had glimpsed in the past flashback scenes of the main characters or in character settings.

Agnes was a legendary magician who made great strides in the magical world.

According to the setting, she suddenly and thoroughly secluded herself.

Hence no one knew the whereabouts and even the life or death of Agnes.

‘Did she have a disciple?’

He tried to remember the original settings but came up empty.

‘There must be some clue in the letter.’

And as Eren reached for the letter, a quest window appeared before him.

[Quest: Master’s Letter]

[1. Follow the instructions in the letter and head to Sensia’s tower of Kagon.]

[Reward: 10,000P]

[2. Deliver the master’s letter to the tower keeper.]

[Reward: 10,000P]

“No.”

I haven’t even read it yet?

“……”

Eren chose to ignore his discomfort, and began reading the letter.

As he read, he realized that the quest window had summarized things well.

– “I need to step away for a moment. I apologize for suddenly leaving you alone.”

– “Head to the tower in Cagon. You should know the way.”

– “Though you might be lacking in circles now, your magical abilities are excellent. I believe you will safely make it.”

– “And deliver my letter. It will be of help to you.”

These were the core sentences, excluding the pleasantry.

Feeling a sense of disorientation while glancing through the letter, Eren sensed that Agnes was hiding something. There was no mention of where she actually went.

‘Initially in the gameplay, she wasn’t a character that I could meet directly…’

While progressing in the story, achievements of Agnes could occasionally be seen, but no player had encountered Agnes herself.

Eren decided to carry out the quest first.

It was impossible living in the isolated cabin indefinitely and there were a mountain of tasks to complete in this in-game world.

If this place was the in-game world he knew, he had to head to Cagon anyway.

‘This damned game wasn’t designed to be won in the first round.’

‘Fantasia’ was a game designed for repeated saves and loads to reach the finale.

After all, only by knowing the story and hidden pieces could one smoothly reach a happy ending.

‘Is the book here a spell book?’

Eren pulled a book from the bookshelf.

[Spellbook: Descending Flame (Agnes Sensia Revised Edition)]

[Points consumed when acquired: 5000P]

“Oh, this is here?”

[Spellbook: Basic Elemental Magic (Agnes Sensia Revised Edition)]

[You have already acquired this magic.]

“The spellbook system and point consumption are the same as when playing the game.”

[Spellbook: Magic Missile (Agnes Sensia Revised Edition)]

[You have already acquired this magic.]

“With this, I can get a rough idea of what kind of magic I’m learning.”

Since the only magic he knew he could use for sure was <Telekinesis>, Eren thought it was fortunate.

“First, I’ll collect the letters.”

It was a key item awarding 10,000 points. Eren tried to put the letters in his robe pocket.

[Tutorial Quest: Inventory]

[It is wise to store important items in your inventory.]

[Reward: 1,000P]

“Ah.”

***

‘It’s time to leave soon.’

The morning sun had risen.

A day had passed as he organized his spell books and meticulously inspected his cabin for hidden objects.

In the meantime, Eren had fully adapted to his physical and magical abilities.

Eren looked around the empty cabin.

Excluding large furniture that couldn’t fit into the inventory, he grabbed anything possible.

The only notable find was a pouch full of kingdom’s currency.

‘Having enough gold, maybe I should head to Arctos for now.’

As suspected, the cabin was located in the northern region.

Arctos was known to be the largest city in the North.

It would be convenient to make a stopover at Arctos on his way to the magic tower.

Finding his way wouldn’t be a problem.

‘If you don’t know the map, you’re not a veteran.’

Eren was confident that he could figure out the direction by looking at the geographical features of the Northern Region.

‘Let’s go.’

As the cabin door opened, a chilling wind from the North welcomed Eren.

The cold instinctively made him shiver.

Although white snow piled up to his head level was blocking the cabin door, it wouldn’t be a problem.

<Psychokinesis>

<Fireball>

As per Eren’s will, a warm ball of flame melted the snow, and simultaneously, a path began to form amongst the snow by an invisible force.

Eren had spent a day trying out various magical tricks.

And if there was one thing he had learned, it was that his magical abilities were quite impressive, just as the letter had said.

His acquired magic skills were limited to the first circle, the typical state of a novice wizard character.

But his mana capacity and firepower were far from ordinary for a first circle wizard.

‘The telekinesis feels a bit different from in the game.’

Telekinesis is a basic 1st circle magic that one can learn early on.

Its purpose is to allow the player to easily acquire dropped items.

To move heavier objects, one had to learn skills from a higher circle in the telekinesis tree.

In short, the 1st circle <Telekinesis> was merely a magnet skill.

But the telekinesis that Earen was currently using was a bit more powerful. It made snow clearing easy.

‘I can’t tell exactly because there’s no status window, but the specs seem pretty good.’

Earen trudged through the snow and pressed on.

[Monster Defeat Complete]

[+10P]

Several monsters attacked while Earen cautiously moved through the snowfield.

It was characteristic of the undeveloped northern region.

However, Earen was able to easily defeat the monsters with the magic he discovered and practiced in the cottage.

All he had to do was see the monster approaching spewing its breath, and intend to use the skills as he always did in the game.

Earen calmly defeated the monsters.

He didn’t feel any particular aversion. He was unsure whether this was because he was so engrossed in ‘Fantasia’, or whether his past experience still lingered in his body like a specter.

‘It even feels easier than the game.’

In the game, he had to physically press the keyboard.

Moreover, with many acquired magic skills, there were countless cases of accidentally firing different skills.

However, after possession, it was enough to just think, and the magic manifested according to its intent.

-Clattering!

‘What’s that?’

Suddenly, the tranquility of the forest was shattered.

The sound of excited horse hooves and wooden wheels scraping the ground spread out.

Earen cautiously headed in the direction of the sound.

Shortly after, he witnessed the sight of a carriage being chased by a pack of wolves.

A few large wolves moved at a high speed, chasing the carriage.

‘Forest wolves.’

The carriage was running at a very high speed, but it was not enough to escape from the monsters.

The eyes of the driver and horses, straining to increase their speed, were filled with terror.

“Huh? Why is she here?”

A distinctive female face was seen on the carriage.

She was briskly throwing the carriage’s load out while her brown short hair blew in the wind.

She was a character often seen during games.

[Quest: Rescue]

[Save the carriage from the monster.]

[Reward: 5000P]

“I was planning on saving her anyways!”

It’s common sense to save the heroine!

Aern caught his breath and summoned his magical energy.
