Chapter 34 - The Female CEO’s Backup (4)
“Is what you said true?” Nangong Jun’s face was filled with disbelief. His handsome features reflected an expression of shock as he stared at Ning Yourou. “Our child is being raised by someone else?”
“Yes.” Ning Yourou nodded, warm tears streaming down her cheeks. “It’s all my fault. I was only 18 when I gave birth to the child. Young and reckless, I didn’t understand anything back then, and I couldn’t afford to raise a child. So I made a terrible mistake…”
Ning Yourou looked deeply remorseful, her pitiful appearance stirring compassion.
Nangong Jun’s temper flared instantly. Seeing the woman he loved crying like that, his eyes burned with rage, as if he wanted to incinerate anyone who had wronged her.
He gently pulled Ning Yourou into his arms and said in a cold voice, “You’re my woman, and it’s my job to protect you! No one else has the right to bully you. Tell me everything that happened.”
Ning Yourou sobbed uncontrollably, her face covered in tearful streaks like petals in the rain, her fragile demeanor resembling a doll made of water. “It’s—it’s all my fault… Wuwuwu, I was the one who abandoned Xiao Bao. I know I’m shameless now, but I’ve realized my mistake. I want to bring Xiao Bao back to my side…”
She stared deeply into Nangong Jun’s eyes, clutching his arm tightly as if seeking solace.
Nangong Jun’s expression froze for a moment, but his heart softened as he looked at Ning Yourou. “Tell me exactly what happened. You found our child, but he doesn’t want to return to you?”
Covering her face with her hands, Ning Yourou let her tears fall freely. Her beautiful face was streaked with glistening tears, making her appear all the more pitiable.
“I haven’t told Xiao Bao about it yet. I originally wanted to discuss it calmly with the man who’s raising him now. I’m even willing to offer money to bring Xiao Bao back,” Ning Yourou said, her voice trembling with sorrow. Her tear-filled eyes locked onto Nangong Jun as her voice broke into sobs. “I’m scared… What if Xiao Bao doesn’t recognize me? I thought if that man could help me, Xiao Bao would definitely return to us…”
Nangong Jun hesitated, a hint of distrust flashing in his eyes.
He had never imagined himself having a child. His love had always been reserved for this one woman. Now, hearing that he had a 10-year-old son, Nangong Jun found it difficult to process.
Seeing the hesitation on Nangong Jun’s face, Ning Yourou let out a bitter laugh. “He’s our biological child! How could you bear to let him drift out there all alone?”
Although he still deeply loved this woman, 10 years had passed. Nangong Jun wasn’t sure if the woman he had once adored was still the same person. Being told out of nowhere that he had a son cooled his head significantly. “Rou Rou, I’ll investigate this matter thoroughly. Don’t worry.”
“You don’t want the child to come back to me, do you?” Ning Yourou’s tears fell even faster as she heard his response. “You don’t love me at all!”
Nangong Jun felt a sharp pang in his chest and immediately tried to explain. “No, that’s not it, Rou Rou. Listen to me—”
“No! I don’t want to hear it! I don’t want to hear it!” Ning Yourou shook her head wildly, crying in despair. “You don’t care about our child at all!”
“Rou Rou…” Nangong Jun’s brows furrowed deeply. They were still in the café, not some private space. Ning Yourou’s outburst had already drawn the attention of people around them.
Feeling a sense of humiliation, Nangong Jun quickly escorted her outside.
He opened the door to his silver Maserati and roughly pushed Ning Yourou inside. After closing the door, he leaned over and silenced her with a forceful kiss.
Ning Yourou froze, her pupils contracting slightly before she finally calmed down a little.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here. I’ll negotiate with him and get everything sorted out.” Stroking her head gently, Nangong Jun finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ning Yourou immediately adopted a demure, delicate posture. “B-but I was the one who abandoned the child back then. If he ends up…”
“Heh~” Nangong Jun chuckled, lifting Ning Yourou’s chin with a sly smirk. His unruly grin carried an air of arrogance. “Woman, don’t you know who your man is?”
As a domineering CEO with influence spanning both legitimate and underground circles, Nangong Jun had connections wherever he went. If that man had no family background to speak of, there was no way he could compete with Nangong Jun.
Even if the man had some backing, Nangong Jun could simply crush him with his wealth.
Clearly thinking of this possibility, Ning Yourou’s cheeks flushed slightly. Her face was filled with admiration and trust as she placed all her hopes on Nangong Jun. “Jun…”
With a gentle smile, Nangong Jun softly kissed the corner of Ning Yourou’s lips. “Don’t worry. Leave everything to me.”
The car window gradually rose, concealing the outside scenery.
However, passersby could still vaguely sense faint movements coming from within the vehicle.
They could only sigh at how shameless some people had become these days…

Hai Ku purchased a few potions labeled ‘Green Hat Potion’ from the system’s marketplace. Although he had spent a considerable amount of experience points, he was genuinely grateful for earning ten times the experience points in the previous world.
(T/N: Green hat = being cuckolded.)
Thanks to the surplus funds, he didn’t feel the slightest sting while spending them.
In this Mary Sue-like world, the male lead tackled everything with bold decisiveness. As the semester-end exams approached, Hai Ku took Zhang Xiaobao to school every day.
Although he hadn’t yet found a stable job, he managed to pick up some freelance work online. With his strong technical skills and previous networking connections, he earned enough to support himself and his son comfortably.
That day marked the last day of final exams. Hai Ku planned to pick up his son and celebrate properly.
As soon as he brought Xiao Bao out, a man with a cold, sinister gaze appeared before them. This man carried the aura of a male lead. His striking looks naturally attracted attention, and parents and children alike glanced his way amidst the crowd.
Having grown used to such stares, Nangong Jun remained completely unfazed. His sharp chin angled toward Hai Ku as he carried himself with an air of defiance.
Hai Ku couldn’t help but feel that the scene resembled one straight out of a drama.
Glancing briefly at Hai Ku, who was holding his child, Nangong Jun wore a faint expression of disdain. Were it not for the fact that the boy beside him was his biological son, he wouldn’t have bothered making the trip personally.
He had initially harbored some doubts about Ning Yourou’s story. But upon seeing Zhang Xiaobao, whose features bore an 80% resemblance to his own, Nangong Jun’s long, powerful legs carried him forward.
“Mr. Zhang, correct? May I have a word with you?” Nangong Jun’s cold voice carried an air of superiority as he spoke.
“Dad…” Zhang Xiaobao clung nervously to Hai Ku’s leg, clearly intimidated by the oppressive aura emanating from Nangong Jun.
Hai Ku patted Xiao Bao’s head, smiling nonchalantly. His calm demeanor suggested he was already prepared to outwit the man before him. “My son just finished his exams. We were about to celebrate. Are you inviting us to dinner?”
Nangong Jun wasn’t bothered by the cheeky response. He liked dealing with clever people. “Get in the car.”
Even after getting into the luxury car, Zhang Xiaobao appeared uninterested. It was clear he disliked the atmosphere inside the vehicle. Yet with his father remaining silent and the intimidating uncle in the front, Xiao Bao could only huddle closer to Hai Ku.
Calming the child’s emotions, Hai Ku waited until the car pulled up to a high-end Western restaurant before getting out with Zhang Xiaobao.
“Xiao Bao, this uncle is treating us to Western food to celebrate the end of your exams. Go ahead and thank him first.” Carrying Xiao Bao’s backpack, Hai Ku wore a cheerful, playful expression.
Zhang Xiaobao nodded and bowed respectfully to Nangong Jun, with the attitude of a child addressing an elder. His ninety-degree bow gave Nangong Jun the odd illusion that the boy was paying respects at his funeral.
“Thank you, Uncle, for treating us to a meal! May you enjoy blessings as vast as the Eastern Sea and longevity as enduring as the Southern Mountain!”
Nangong Jun: “…”
Hai Ku had been watching Nangong Jun closely. Seeing his expression sour slightly, Hai Ku quickly laughed and interrupted, “Alright, alright, let’s head inside.”
After ordering a kids’ meal for Zhang Xiaobao, Hai Ku turned his cheerful gaze to Nangong Jun. “So, what brings you to see me today?”
“Rou Rou should have already told you, shouldn’t she?” Nangong Jun sipped his red wine, his narrowed eyes glinting with cold sharpness. “Do I really need to repeat myself?”
Hai Ku chuckled, then turned to Zhang Xiaobao, gently ruffling the boy’s hair. “Son, let me pluck two hairs from you. Be strong, okay?”
Zhang Xiaobao immediately sat upright. “Got it, Dad!”
With two quick plucks, Hai Ku removed two strands of hair. Wrapping them in a napkin, he handed them over to Nangong Jun. “Sir, I suggest you start with a paternity test.”
Nangong Jun: “…”
Nangong Jun’s sharp eyes fixed on Hai Ku, trying to detect any hint of fear on his face. Yet even after a long, intense stare, Nangong Jun saw no trace of guilt, only a quiet confidence.
This unwavering confidence made Nangong Jun hesitate.
Given his unusual identity and the possibility of being watched at every step, he couldn’t risk a public embarrassment. If the test results proved the child wasn’t his, the one humiliated would undoubtedly be him.
Silently pocketing the napkin-wrapped hair, Nangong Jun gave them a final glance. “The result better not disappoint me.”
