The diary was written by a person called Jakery. He was a rank 5 mage and the person in charge of the whole operation for the order in the magical kingdom of Gilthar. He was an extremely powerful mage even amongst the rank fives.

The beginning of the diary was filled with his daily occurrence and was not very interesting to Rein or Lapis. But Luna still found it interesting as according to her, these things gave her a good idea about how the order of Ramna functioned so many years before.

But the part Rein was actually interested in appeared almost at the end of the diary. There Jakery mentioned how he had gotten a secret news that the magus opposing them had became aware of this location and was planning to take offensive action. So immediately he decided to leave this base. That was also the reason why he had hidden most of the important supplies in this secret room.

There was also a mention of the Downfall of Nature and Society in the diary. It turned out that this book was written by him and he was trying to turn it into a real magus artifact. Jakery himself was not too far away from reaching that rank, so he was planning to turn those books into a magus artifact at the same time when he would reach that rank.

But now it looked like even after getting the news prior, Jakery was still too late to run away. So before he could leave this location, a magus attacked this place and all the people died who were inside the building, including Jakery. So the spell that was used was definitely super strong, as even a rank 5 mage like him was unable to defend against it at all.

So it looked like, Jakery tried to take some of the books away when he was running away and that was the reason why some of the books were found in the outermost area. And the remaining books were kept in the this hidden room.

But Rein's plan to earn easy money with a magus rank artifact was not so easily fulfilled as Jakery had failed to reach the rank of a magus, he had obviously not completed the series. The volume XIII was just barely written. Currently it could not be combined to create a magus artifact.

Still it was one of the top class rank 5 artifact that many people would love to get their hands on but Rein was not satisfied with it. That was because if this was not a magus rank artifact, real maguses would not be interested in it. So more than earning money from this artifact, what Rein really wanted was to create a connection with a magus through this artifact. That was the reason why he needed to have a rank 6 item and not a top rank 5.

So Rein decided to complete this artifact himself in the coming year. He really had nothing serious to do in the academy with his great power and intelligence. So during the time he was in the academy, Rein was planning to complete the last volume, thus completing the whole series.

There were quite a few more valuable items here in the secret room but nothing was even close to the value of the books. But still leaving them behind was out of question, so Rein immediately collected all the items.

But just as they were about the leave the room with the items, suddenly some kind of mechanism was activated. It looked like Jakery had actually prepared some kind of defence if someone was trying to steal his items.

Rein immediately asked Lopas and Luna to hide behind him. Any kind of defense that a rank 5 mage had prepared would definitely be dangerous for a rank 3 and rank 2 mage. So he wanted to ensure their safety first and foremost.

Then soon the obstacle that Rein needed to overcome appeared. It looked like a monster bird. But after checking it with his eye of Truth, Rein found out that it was actually a puppet which was created by using the body of a rank 5 strange beast. With Jakery's refined techniques, he had managed to make the puppet to retain most of it's power.

As soon as the the puppet of the bird monster saw Rein, it immediately attacked without stopping for even a second. It opened its mouth and a beam of energy was shot toward Rein. Rein could have dodged that attack but as he also needed to protect the two girls behind him, instead of dodging, he created a barrier in front of him to stop the attack.

The barrier was actually able to completely block the attack. The affinity of the beam was violet flame which was a decently strong affinity. But it was nothing compared to Rein's void. So in their clash, Rein's affinity had a clear advantage.

Seeing that it's attack was completely blocked, the bird strange beast puppet became mad and attacked Rein. It tried to pierce him with its beak and slashed at him with its claws. But Rein was able to not only block all the attacks, he was even able to counterattack with his physical body after using physical strengthening.

With his physical strengthening activated, Rein was incredibly strong. Not only in terms of strength but also his vitality and physical defense. So no matter how many times the bird hit Rein, he withstood all those attacks without any problem and hit back the bird strange beast puppet even harder.

During this exchange, soon the bird's wings were torn off, legs were broken to pieces and bones were smashed. As birds generally had a light bone structure, with his power Rein had a very easy time breaking them.

Just like that, soon the puppet was unable to even move anymore and fell down. After struggling in vein for some more time, it finally stopped moving. Rein approached it carefully and checked it thoroughly to make sure it was really down for the count.

After making sure that the puppet had really stopped, Rein stored it in his spatial storage. It was a well made puppet and had many uses. Just like that, the expedition of the ancient ruin came to an end.
