Chapter 4: Chapter 2: All Demons Have Gone to Take Civil Service Exams, I, a Human, Must Become the Demon King
That evening, the rooftops of the entire Demon King Academy were covered in the droppings of Messenger Bats.
Thanks to that, the Little Demons didn't raid the self-service cafeteria in the west tower area today, instead, they were all busy writing letters.
After three years of study, Luo Yan finally had the chance to taste the legendary charcoal-grilled Minotaur ribeye steak.
Honestly speaking, the taste was beyond words, describable only as "phenomenal."
But then again, wouldn't Professor Enos have something to say about it? According to the books, the earliest Fear Demons were apparently Minotaurs that had "ascended to demonhood."
Luo Yan imagined someone serving him a cooked monkey, and instantly, the keen appetite he had vanished completely.
Across the table, holding a dish of vegetable and nut stew, Egger sat down cautiously across from Luo Yan, only picking up his fork after finishing his pre-meal prayer.
This guy was probably the most courteous High-level Demon in the entire Demon King Academy toward him.
Too bad he was a man.
"Luo Yan, aren't you writing to your family?" Egger asked.
Even though they were classmates, this guy addressed everyone as 'senior'... even the underclassmen.
At first, Luo Yan found it awkward, but over time he got used to it.
"I'm an orphan." He said nonchalantly with a mouthful of steak.
Egger froze for a moment, then quickly bowed his head in apology.
"S-sorry."
Luo Yan waved his fork and stopped him.
"No need to apologize, haven't you heard from Enos? In Hell, there's no word for 'sorry'. Stand your ground next time you offend me."
The other Demons did indeed do so, but they no longer dared to confront him openly, at least they didn't dare cast spells.
Because if anyone dared to provoke him, Luo Yan would immediately write to the Ministry of Internal Affairs complaining he had experienced discrimination on a certain day by a certain person, who happened to be the child of someone else, fully exploiting his own worth.
Not convinced?
Go complain to your dad and His Majesty the Demon God!
I'm already giving you Demons face by not getting anything for free when I shop or eat. Count yourselves lucky!
"Haha..."
Seeing that Luo Yan was still in the mood to joke, Egger also smiled, albeit still a bit worried as he spoke.
"Actually... my family has some connections in the Ministry of Internal Affairs; if you don't mind..."
"No need, no need," Luo Yan waved his hand to stop him, "just write about your own issues, don't bother mentioning me. We're just classmates, it wouldn't be appropriate. Besides, I've already decided where I'm going."
Egger asked curiously.
"Where do you plan to go?"
Luo Yan smirked devilishly.
"Heh, to the place a Demon King belongs."
It took a moment for Egger to process the statement, then his eyes widened in realization.
"Demon King?!" He looked at Luo Yan, incredulously, "Are you insane? I don't mean any disrespect, but your practical course grades are only an F, maybe it would be wise to reconsider..."
F?
That's because F is the lowest possible grade!
If there were a G, Luo Yan was sure he'd easily earn it.
"Hahaha!"
Luo Yan laughed self-deprecatingly, hiding the embarrassment and the sense of resignation and gloom within, patted Egger's slim shoulders, "Magic is just one of the tools to achieve goals; don't rely on it too much. Besides magic, I have other things."
"Other things?" Egger swallowed nervously, his small frame trembling slightly.
"It's a secret."
Luo Yan smiled mysteriously, although the truth was he himself didn't know what to do and could only take things step by step.
After all, he couldn't tell this clever fellow that if he saw the situation wasn't favorable on the surface, he would just run away, right? Aside from being incredibly handsome, he wasn't much different from the humans above ground in other respects.
However, Egger seemed to truly believe him, looking at him with admiring eyes as if he were beholding a real hero.
Gotten carried away by his own bluff, Luo Yan didn't stop in time and continued with grandeur.
"A true man should not be depressed by subservience! A man must act like a man! Hiding behind and simply eating—cough! Of course, I'm not saying you're not manly." He joked.
"What I mean is, if I don't reach Heaven—damn! Who will if I don't? I not only want to reach it, but enter with a bang! Once I become the Demon King, hmm, hmmmm..."
I'll definitely buy a house in the Holy City!
No sooner had Luo Yan finished speaking, than a loud voice and applause erupted from the cafeteria entrance.
"Hahaha! Well said!!!"
Looking past a group of goblin exchange students busy eating, Luo Yan glanced towards the entrance to see who it was, and almost slid under the table the moment he saw that face.
Avin Krueger!
A Demigod-level (X-level) Witch Demon!
The principal of Demon City's Demon King Academy!
He stiffened his expression, silently chanting a Soul Stabilizing spell, afraid his true thoughts would be revealed.
Luckily, the respected Mr. Avin Krueger didn't use the Soul Capturing spell on a mere student.
In Demon City, using a spell of Level Four or higher is forbidden, especially against humans protected by the Demon God.
It would be akin to shooting a giant panda in a Chongqing park on Earth.
Watching the solemn Luo Yan, Avin's face was full of approval, his eyes tender as if he were looking at his own child.
