Chapter 5: My One Fear
As soon as I got my thoughts together about what it was that I had experienced through my dreams; I heard a loud knock on the door of my room.
I made my way to the door and saw Donivon standing there with an expression of urgency on his face.
"Well; you are finally awake. We have tried to wake you up for over three hours."
"Has it been that long since I fell asleep? I thought that it was only a matter of moments." I said to him in disbelief of what he had just stated.
"I do not know what to tell you, but we are all needed in the medical facility of this ship for examination."
As soon as he mentioned that, my entire body tensed up like a bar of metal.
"Do I have to go to the doctor of this ship and get myself checked out?" I asked him in a very worried tone.
"Wait; are you telling me that you are afraid of little needles?" Donovan asked me as he laughed.
"You do not have the right to insult me about my fear. I know that everyone has something that they are afraid of Donivon!" I exclaimed at him when I tried to move out of my room.
"It does not matter what you are afraid of because it is required for all of us to get vaccinated. That will remove us from any possible discussions that we could have possibly obtained while we were in our home world." He said to me as he stepped away from the doorway allowing me to exit my room.
"Thank you for telling me about this Donivon. I may be somewhat afraid of needles, but I can bite my fear just like I did during my Klitron".
I then walked away from him and made my way to the elevator. I felt a sharp pain of discomfort through my spine. I would have to surpass my fear of needles if I wanted to remain a member of the healer caste.
"Danny! You need to make sure that you get back to the loading bay when you are done with your medical check. We will all be waiting for you before we leave the ship".
I then gave him a nod letting him know that I acknowledged what he had said to me.
"The medical wing, please," I said to the elevator as I stepped into it.
As the elevator door closed, it started to move down until it opened, and I was able to smell the sharp sting of cleaning supplies, unlike the scents I had received from the rest of the ship.
The first thing that I saw as I stepped out of the elevator was an office with one elderly female who was giving people a number, and then she requested that they sit down and wait for the number that she gave them to be called as soon as she scanned their palms.
As I walked up to the desk, she handed me a small slip of paper with the number fifteen on it. After she handed the paper to me, I made it to one of the open seats that were against the wall.
I saw that there were a total of six people that were sitting near me, waiting for their turn to get examined by the doctor of this ship. They varied in age from one young male child who was hiding behind his mother. The eldest-looking person in the group was an old man who was entirely bald, and he had a giant X-shaped scar that looked like it was carved on the top of his head. He seemed to glare at me with anger as I made visual contact with him which made me feel uneasy.
To avoid drawing too much attention to myself I chose to position myself away from everyone else in the room.
It took a total of thirty minutes until my number was called. When it was, I rose to my feet and gathered all my courage to temporarily get over my fear of needles.
The room was entirely white, without any furniture except a table that had a variety of different-sized needles on it.
The sight of that table caused me to collapse on the floor as my entire body was enveloped in fear and dread.
"So, I see that you are here to get a check-up that will clear you for service duty to our race." I heard a soft female voice say to me, which helped me to shatter my fear, and I was able to focus on her instead of the needles that were on the table that were in between us.
"How do we begin the process of getting myself ready for service against our many enemies?" I asked her in a slow voice because of the small amount of fear that I currently felt.
"I first will need to know what your caste was before you went through The Klitron. After that, I will give you a vaccine that will remove any of the common defects and diseases that the members of your former caste," she said to me as I saw that she was looking at the table of needles instead of me.
"Before I went through The Klitron I was a member of the crafter caste".
"Ok, then you will need to receive this one if you are going to be an active citizen of The Terran Collective." I heard her say as she was moving the needles around the table.
She then grabbed a needle that had a blue liquid in it from the table. The look of her in her medical scrubs pushed all fearful thoughts out of my mind as she injected me with the blue liquid.
"There, you have been injected with the type of liquid that will purify your body of any unwelcome bacteria and diseases that are common among those formerly of the crafter caste," she said as I saw her starting to walk away from the table. "You may go and serve our race in whatever task you are granted."
I then left the room and made my way to the loading docks where I saw everyone from my group of healers waiting for me.
"You took your sweet time getting here," Fredrick said in a demanding tone as if he was angry at me.
"I am sorry for the delay". I said respectfully to the female who was guiding us.
"It is fine. We have just arrived at the planet where you will undergo your healer training.
Now we do not have the time to wait. We will all go down to the planet now that we have the clearance to land." She said as she entered the transport ship that I had used to get onto this massive ship that took me to another planet.
As the transport ship started to move out of the vessel, I looked out at the wonderful world where I was going to be spending the next phase of my life as a healer for my race.
The area around me was a city of black buildings. I could see the buildings as far as my eye could reach in every direction. There were a few select structures throughout the city that had a white energy barrier over them as if they were structures of great importance. Every building was well lit up and there was a lot of active traffic through the spaces that separated the structures.
"This city seems to be very lively," Nova said to me as I saw her pointing at all the vessels that were passing by us.
"This entire planet is active for almost all day. The world is also a very active place that our students use to get anything that they need while they reside here for their period of training. The planet also has a few very interesting tourist attractions that keep them actively funded when they are not training new members of the healer or specialist caste". The elderly female said in response to what Nora said to me.
The ship then made its way to a landing pad that was right outside of one of the energy barriers.
"Go and embrace your new lives. My assignment is to guide you to where you will be training for the next four years of your lives". The elderly lady said as the ship door opened.
Not a single person responded to what she said to them. I then stepped out of the ship after everyone had left, and I was speechless at what I had stepped onto.
I noticed that everyone else in the group seemed to be excited and they even started to jump for joy at the wonders of this world. Despite how everyone else was acting I could not relax just yet.
"Attention!" I heard a deep male voice say from the other side of the barrier.
I turned my attention to where I heard the deep voice come from. As I looked through the barrier, I saw a middle-aged bald man who was wearing the armor of the warrior caste. There was one difference about his armor; the difference about his armor was that in the chest area, he had three dark blue stars on it.
Only Donivon and I were focused on him.
"Are you maggots deaf!" he exclaimed as he hit each of us on the head. "You are going to be spending the next four years of your weak lives here. I am one of the instructors that will be teaching you during your stay here.
If you graduate from our schooling, you will not be the same weak-willed people that you are now. Allow me to welcome you to hell!"
