chapter 12

“Ugh, so heavy. I can’t move my hand; it’s so numb.”
Gu Ming tried to withdraw his hands from beneath the two women but found himself stuck. He then decided to wake them up.
“Mia, Tina, morning! Time to get up.”
Mia responded lazily,
“Mmm… Brother, Mia wants to sleep for five more minutes,” she murmured with a yawn.
Tina on the right side woke up immediately upon being called and smiled groggily at Gu Ming,
“Good morning, Master Brother!”
“Haha, good morning. Uh, Tina? My hand is kind of numb; could you let go of it?”
“Oh! Sorry about that, Master Brother!”
Once Tina released his right hand, Gu Ming felt much relieved and turned to call out to Mia on his left,
“Lazy bug! Time to get up.”
“Just five more minutes,” she mumbled before falling back asleep while still clinging onto Gu Ming’s left hand.
…
Seeing Mia continue lying on top of Gu Ming made Tina feel somewhat uneasy. She whispered softly to him,
“Master Brother… do you really want her to get up?”
Gu Ming nodded in confusion.
“Then please, big brother, close your eyes. Just give me a few seconds.”
In the meantime, Gu Ming obediently opened a small slit to peek and then witnessed a scene that shocked him for life. He saw white panties. no, that’s not right. he saw Tina kick out with her right foot, causing Mia to tumble 360 degrees and fall under the bed.
It must be said that a woman’s jealousy is truly frightening.
“Ah, it hurts! I feel like someone kicked me.”
Mia looked up at Gu Ming with pitiful eyes. Gu Ming glanced at Tina’s benign expression and could only silently place the blame on himself.
“Let’s go to the hall; we still need to see off our master after dinner.”
“Oh, okay brother.”
Mia stood up and dusted herself off…
…
“Apprentice, come here; we’re just waiting for you three,”
Haimer placed his hand on Gu Ming’s shoulder and asked with a grin,
“Apprentice, you have such dark circles under your eyes today. Did you not sleep well or were you up all night… heheh… do you need your master to prepare something to replenish your body?”
Gu Ming brushed his hand away laughing,
“No need for Master to worry; your apprentice is very healthy.”
“Oh my boy! You’re still shy around me? Last night I created such a good opportunity for you. tell me what happened next!”
Gu Ming looked at Haimer with a smile full of face,
“Master let’s just go eat instead; otherwise I can’t help but want to hasten your funeral right now.”
After Gu Ming left, Haimer watched his retreating figure and murmured,
“Aiyo! Such an adult yet still so shy. it really is an unteachable fault of youth.”
After dinner, outside the Crete residence,
“Big brother, remember to miss me.”
“Little brother.”
“Big brother.”
“Little brother.”
Simon and Haimer looked at each other with such reluctance to part that their gazes almost sparked flames. To an outsider unaware of their bond, they might have seemed like lovers.
Gu Ming couldn’t stand it anymore and interjected,
“Guys, come on, don’t make it seem like a life-or-death farewell.”
Simon feigned annoyance,
“Hey, you kid…”
Haimer adjusted his attire and mounted his horse,
“Little brother, my apprentice, may we meet again if fate allows.”
“Big brother, have a safe journey.”
As Gu Ming watched Haimer on the horseback, flashes of the past two years flickered through his mind. Feeling a pang in his heart he shouted,
“Master. ”
A wine jug fell from the sky into Haimer’s hands.
Item: A never-empty wine jug (a magical item capable of storing vast amounts of liquor)
“Master… take care on your journey.”
Gu Ming bowed deeply to Haimer. On horseback, Haimer quietly looked at this delicate-looking young man before him with tears rimming his eyes.
“You rascal, you’re leaving and yet you make my heart ache so much. What a troublemaker,” said Haimer as he wiped away tears with his sleeve, then declared boldly, “Off I go!”
Behind Gu Ming, Mia and Tina also shouted, “Take care, Master Haimer!”
From a distance, Haimer responded, “You all take care too.”
Haimer’s figure grew increasingly blurry until he completely disappeared from everyone’s sight.
“Cold rain joins the river at night entering Wu; by dawn we bid farewell amidst the lonely Chu mountains. If friends from Luoyang ask of me, tell them my heart remains pure as ice in a jade pot. Master, may we meet again if fate allows.”
“Master Brother,” said Mia after Haimer had gone far away. “Let’s head back.”
“Alright.”
“Brother,” she asked curiously. “What was that poem you recited? It sounds so profound.”
“It’s ‘Sending Off Xin Jian at Hibiscus Pavilion’ by Wang Changling. one of my favorite poems.”
“Wang Changling. that’s an odd name,” she remarked.
…
Two months later
“Is Mia ready yet?”
“I’m here!” called out Mia as she hurried towards Gu Ming and his companion with a large bag in tow.
“Mia, what on earth are you carrying?”
“I won’t tell you. These are our girl’s treasures. Quick, brother, put them into the spatial magic; I can hardly hold them anymore.”
Gu Ming silently recited an incantation, and the package on Mia’s shoulder vanished right there.
“Wow, brother, even though I’ve seen your spatial magic many times before, it still amazes me.”
“It’s alright.”
Tina nodded in agreement beside him while Mia continued.
“Brother, you really shouldn’t be modest. When you activate your spatial magic and I don’t feel even a hint of magical flow. that alone proves its power.”
“Really? Haha.”
Gu Ming chuckled as Tina interjected from his left.
“Master Brother, do you find it burdensome to take us along?”
Gu Ming stepped forward and gently touched her beast-eared head.
“How could I possibly find our dear Tina burdensome? If Tina wants to go somewhere, we’ll go. It’s my job to protect you all.”
“Mmm.”
Tina happily nuzzled Gu Ming’s hand with her head.
“Tsk, this cow girl,”
Mia glanced disapprovingly from the side and quickly stepped between them to interrupt,
“Brother, Tina. it’s getting late; we should be going now.”
“Oh okay.”
After lowering his hand Gu Ming called out towards Charlie and Simon in the distance,
“Grandpa Charlie! That will be all for father then; take care of yourselves.”
Simon responded,
“Take care, young master.”
“Son, be careful when you’re out and about. Don’t just listen to strangers…”
Gu Ming stopped listening to the latter part of the conversation. He waved at their reluctant faces from a distance and then left with the two women.
The sunlight cast an indescribable feeling on the direction of the three people, whose figures gradually moved further away from Simon and his group until they finally disappeared.
…
“Brother, which way should we go next?” Mia asked Gu Ming as she looked at the map.
“Let me see. How about we rest at this inn tonight? What do you think?”
“We’ll follow your lead, brother.”
“And you, Tina?”
“I’ll follow Master Brother.”
“Good, then let’s hurry up; it’s getting late.”
…
After rushing for an hour,
“Brother, we’ve arrived,”
“Mm-hmm, let’s go inside then.”
…
“For lodging or dining?”
The innkeeper asked Gu Ming and his companions at the front desk.
“Three rooms, and prepare some good food.”
“Okay…”
Mia interjected,
“Wait a moment.”
“What’s the matter, Mia?”
Gu Ming looked at Mia with some confusion, waiting for her to continue.
“Just one room big enough for three people to sleep in.”
“But, Mia…”
Before Gu Ming could finish speaking, Mia cut in again,
“Brother, it’s safer for us to stay together when we’re away from home.”
“That may be true, but…”
“There are no buts. Tina surely thinks it’s better this way too. Right, Tina?”
Tina glanced at Gu Ming and nodded slightly.
“You see? Majority rules. Let’s happily decide on that.”
Mia approached the landlady and asked,
“One larger room and four meat dishes; how much will that be?”
The landlady flashed a professional smile and replied,
“For you beautiful lady, 3 silver coins.”
After paying the money, the landlady took out a key and handed it to Mia.
“Lovely lady, your room is 303. It’s on the third floor; turn left and it’s the third door. I wish you all a pleasant stay.”
Mia, after getting the key, clung to Gu Ming’s arm joyfully and headed upstairs.
