365 days to love

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Something perfect

I was not going to compromise my date with my Min Jun just because my dad decided to be as stubborn as always. As I turned to walk away from my parents with a bunch of blueberry in my hands, I waited for my parents to call me back. I didn't want to leave yet, I needed more blueberries.

"Mei," mom and dad called. Well mom called me sweetly and dad yelled my name. "Do whatever you want to do Mei," Dad replied. "Thank you sir," I yelled. I turned back to the table and grabbed another bunch. "I just needed another one," I smiled and ran up the stairs before dad decided to change his mind.

My bed was always my best friend but I finally appreciated her when I got diagnosed. "I should have gotten more blueberries or at least ate dinner before I decided to leave the dining table, I am so stupid," I groaned and laid on my bed popping berries into my mouth. Friday better be worth my stupid behaviours.

I screamed when I found Mom by the door. "Mom you scared me," I said. "Sorry, I brought you berries," she said. "Thanks mom," I said. "I love you," I said as I stuffed more berries into my mouth. "The berries or me?" mom asked and I laughed. "You," I answered. "I still hold the title for best parent, don't I?" she asked me. I laughed and nodded.

Growing up, mom was the good cop and dad was always the bad cop. Mom and Dad were strict but Dad never his control slip, he always wanted to boss me around and never let me do anything I wanted to. The first time I went outside the gate of our house was when I was five, I begged dad for days to let me go outside but he didn't. When he travelled I asked mom and reminded her that it was my birthday. I gave her my best puppy dog eyes and she agrees.

We not only went outside our house, we went to the park, I saw other kids my age. Although I didn't talk to anyone I had the best day of my life. I tasted ice cream and cotton candy for the first time and had crazy sugar rush. I was on adrenaline.

My adrenaline didn't wear off until dad came. I told him I wasn't allergic to sugar like he told me. "How do you know that?" he asked me. Little me was so excited, I told him all about my little trip to the park. I didn't notice he was already angry so I asked for candy. He yelled so much I thought I was going to go deaf. The maids took me away from dad. The adrenaline definitely wore off after he yelled at me.

A month later, I finally got my first chocolate bar, I knew mom made it happen so she immediately became my favourite person. Mom had to help dad make me realise he was my father because five year old me was so sure he wasn't.

"Still my life saver," I said. "I wish I could save you from this," mom sobbed. I hugged her and assured her everything was going to be alright. "It feels good to just be in this position," mom said and I scoffed. "Yeah, we haven't had time since I got diagnosed," I said.

"Do you really have to leave?" mom asked me. I was definitely not going to answer that. My mom was a successful lawyer and I knew she was trying to win me over. I can't give her the chance to do that. I needed this freedom. I laid on my bed and stared at my ceiling while popping blue berries into my mouth. "I love you Mei Xing Lin," mom said. "I am not dying mom," I joked. "At least not yet," I murmured. "I just want you to know mom is always here, everything I and your dad did for you was because we loved you," she said.

"I just had to get the parents with the toughest love to give," I answered. Mom kissed my forehead and left the room. I sighed and turned to look at my wall. Plain white, just like the hospital walls. Was I really going to go for chemotherapy?
