Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Touka transformed
There are different types of transformation processes in a demon.
If the transformation takes place voluntarily, it will be quicker and smoother, the individual won't even lose their memory, or at least that's how Lucian sees it. He wasn't sure if the few demons Muzan transformed who kept their memories were deliberate or accidental.
On the other hand, when a person is forcibly transformed, the resistance against transformation is much greater and memory loss is basically guaranteed.
The strength and abilities the individual possesses also affect the transformation process, which makes the time vary, taking Kokushibo as an example - his transformation took three days to complete.
Although he was the exception among exceptions...
But the speed of transformation can vary from a few seconds to days.
And through some things Lucian has observed, the increase in power that each person experiences is also greatly affected by this: humans at the peak of normality become demons with exactly 1 BP, which is almost insignificant, considering that they already had some vitality.
Although saying "the strength of a hundred people" is very abstract, after all, a sedentary person has a very different physique from someone who regularly engages in high-intensity exercise, but it can be said that becoming a demon grants the individual "the strength of one and a half people", or perhaps two.
Meanwhile, for those who had practiced a breathing technique, the result was very different, reaching initial levels of 100 BP.
When it comes to sensory issues, many things affect the pain felt: the resistance the body and/or mind is putting up against the transformation and how radical the process is.
The best example of a radical transformation is one in which the person's body mutates faster than it can cope with and ends up collapsing from the inside out.
Finally, another factor is Lucian's will, which is able to affect how the process will go.
Now you may be wondering why the chapter started this way, and the reason is simple: Touka is undergoing this transformation right now.
Encouraged by a desire to "fit in" with society, or more specifically, to remain close to her friend Yoriko. Although something like eating the food made by her friend might seem insignificant, it was still something that mattered to her. After all, eating is a necessity for all living beings and receiving food is special.
Encouraged by the conversation she had with her brother who had "abandoned" her. By remembering her father who ended up leaving them alone, all thanks to their weakness.
Encouraged by the fear of losing a friend, which would only reinforce the idea that she will end up alone.
Encouraged by the desire to rescue her friend who was kidnapped by an evil organization because she was unable to prevent it from happening.
Putting it all together, she comes to a conclusion: she wants power, no, she needs power!
It doesn't matter whether she came to this conclusion on her own or whether Lucian influenced her, such thinking was correct.
Si vis pacem para bellum.
If you want peace, prepare for war.
Power is necessary no matter what the goal, whether it's gaining fame, wealth, authority, land or simply protecting the things and people you hold dear.
As a man once said: "We need a nuclear bomb not to throw at others, but to stop them from throwing at us."
The desire for peace cannot prevent conflicts from happening, but power can end them. Or rather, if the power is great enough, the sheer intimidation it causes means that conflicts don't even start.
Unfortunately, neither she nor Anteiku possess this power.
So Touka will be the first ghoul that Lucian turns into a demon.
"This feeling is so strange...", Touka couldn't help muttering as she felt as if something was moving through her veins.
Thanks to Lucian's warnings, she wasn't particularly worried about it, even expecting much worse, so she warned her acquaintances, prepared to stay at home for a while.
But it wasn't long before the relief she felt faded and her worries were realized.
The sensation that had once been mild now intensified with every passing moment and although it wasn't pain, the tingling throughout her body made her feel a discomfort beyond anything she had ever felt.
It was as if something inside her was preventing the blood from circulating properly and every nerve was being compressed.
The feeling of weakness that ran through her whole body gradually prevented her from standing up, forcing her to spend the whole day lying in bed.
And after thirty long hours going through the transformation process, she finally got what she was supposed to get - the powers and abilities belonging to demons.
Her five senses, which were already powerful because she was a ghoul, became more powerful. Her physical strength grew enormously, but not as much as her speed, which was already fast. The same with her regeneration, which could now easily deal with even the most serious injuries.
However, the most remarkable thing was the infinite stamina that the transformation gave her, the biggest shortcoming of her kagune and fighting method was that it ran out quickly, but now... She felt she could fire off blast after blast of attacks without getting tired.
Instinctively spreading her kagune out like wings, she couldn't help but marvel:
"It's as if power fills every inch of my body... And finally there are two wings."
Her great wings flapped frantically, like an intense crimson flame yearning for destruction. These wings were now larger than before, and greater size means greater range.
And having these new powers in hand, she was of course eager to test them out, but her bedroom was not a suitable place for that.
After all, she would end up destroying too many things in the process of testing and getting used to her new powers. So she put her kagune away, left her room and immediately ran to a "training camp".
In other words, she went down to the complex of tunnels built by ghouls underground in Tokyo, the same place where she and Yomo helped Kaneki train.
Being in a place where she didn't have to worry about how many things would be destroyed, she unfolded her kagune as far as she could and began firing a large number of crystallized rc projectiles.
The previously flowing wings hardened into crystal and with a flick of her wings, several fragments of those wings were shot forward.
The amount fired was as thick as rain, and everyone knows how lethal these fragments are, after all, they easily broke Tsukiyama's kagune, which has a koukaku, the kagune with the greatest defense among the four types.
And don't forget, ukaku is usually at a disadvantage against koukaku-type kagunes. This disadvantage is based on the fact that throwing these projectiles causes the rc to run out very quickly, making it impossible for the fight to continue for long, while koukaku's high defense prevents it from losing quickly, but the situation was reversed in Touka's fight against Tsukiyama.
And thanks to the fact that she had been transformed into a demon, Touka no longer had this disadvantage, as her rc was now regenerating as quickly as these projectiles were launched.
This means that her attacks could continue for hours on end, without interruption, undoubtedly making her a highly dangerous opponent.
This is why Lucian expressed a preference for ukaku-type kagunes, they fit in very well with the characteristics possessed by demons.
"What happened?" Suddenly a voice sounded behind her, startling her a little, but she was soon relieved to see who had approached.
"Nothing happened," Touka replied to Yomo a little evasively.
"Yes, something has happened. Kaneki was kidnapped and soon after that you got 'sick', and when you 'recovered' you ran here to 'train'. And your kagune... She's different." Yomo immediately denied Touka's words, pointing out what was wrong.
"Lucian offered me something... And I decided to take him up on it," Touka said as he retracted his kagune.
"I understand... I hope you don't regret it. I'm available if you need help." Hearing this response, Yomo nodded slightly before turning to leave. Of course, even if his reaction didn't reveal much, he was worried about Touka.
"I hope I don't regret it either." Touka put her hand to her heart, somewhat reflectively.
She didn't know if she had made the right decision, but she hoped to discover that she wasn't wrong, all the more so because she felt as if there was something wrapped around her heart.
And not in the figurative sense, she could feel as if something was physically wrapping itself around her heart.
