Chapter 17: A Shopping Spree and a Warm Welcome

The next morning, Lila and Alexander set off to choose a birthday gift for his grandmother. They visited a renowned jewelry store, a haven of glittering diamonds and precious stones.

As they browsed through the exquisite collection, they were approached by two saleswomen, both vying for their attention.

"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Hart," the first saleswoman, a sharp-tongued woman with a haughty air, greeted them. "May I assist you in finding the perfect gift for your esteemed grandmother?"

"Good morning," the second saleswoman, a younger woman with a more pleasant demeanor, interjected. "Perhaps you'd like to see our collection of antique silver?"

The two women immediately began to snipe at each other, each trying to outdo the other in their attempts to impress Alexander and Lila.

"Antique silver? How pedestrian!" the first saleswoman scoffed. "Your grandmother deserves something truly exceptional, something that reflects her impeccable taste."

"I beg to differ," the second saleswoman retorted. "Antique silver is timeless, a symbol of elegance and tradition."

The argument escalated quickly, the two women hurling insults at each other. "You're just jealous because I have more experience," the first saleswoman sneered.

"Jealous? Of you? Please!" the second saleswoman scoffed. "You're nothing but a stuck-up snob!"

The situation quickly devolved into a full-blown catfight, the two women glaring at each other, their voices rising in anger.

Alexander and Lila watched in stunned silence as the two saleswomen began to claw at each other, their manicured nails raking each other's faces.

The store manager, a portly man with a worried expression, rushed over to intervene. "Ladies! Ladies! Please, stop this at once!"

He managed to separate the two women, who continued to glare at each other, their faces contorted with fury.

"I apologize for this… this… spectacle," the manager stammered, his face flushed. "I will have to speak to them both. Please, accept our sincerest apologies."

Alexander and Lila, still reeling from the unexpected turn of events, could only nod in agreement.

"Perhaps we should continue our shopping elsewhere," Alexander suggested, his voice laced with amusement.

Lila nodded, her eyes twinkling. "I think that's a good idea."

As they left the store, still slightly shaken by the incident, Alexander turned to Lila, his eyes twinkling. "I think we've provided some entertainment for the other customers," he said, chuckling.

Lila couldn't help but laugh. "I think you're right."

They decided to visit a nearby antique shop, where they found a beautiful antique porcelain vase, a perfect gift for Alexander's grandmother.

As they left the shop, Lila turned to Alexander, her eyes sparkling. "That was quite a show," she said, still chuckling.

Alexander smiled. "I've never seen anything like it."

He pulled her close, his arms encircling her waist. "Thank you for today, Lila," he whispered. "It was… perfect."

Lila leaned into him, her heart filled with warmth.
