Chapter 6: five
The house was modest from the outside, blending seamlessly with the suburban neighborhood. Behind the curtains, however, it was anything but typical. Inside, the home buzzed with a mix of warm banter and underlying secrecy, where the polybodies lived and schemed, bound not by blood but by intellect and purpose.
They sat around a kitchen table covered with a mix of blueprints, fragmented mechanical parts, and mugs of tea and coffee. Natasha, sitting cross-legged on her chair, was the first to break the silence.
"So, guess who ran into Dick Grayson today?" She smirked, picking at her toast. "I'm pretty sure he suspects something about me. He's… annoyingly observant."
Kamaria chuckled softly. "I warned you, Natasha. You're getting too bold."
Richard shrugged, leaning back with a grin. "You'll be fine, kid. Just remember: stay invisible. It's the key to longevity."
Charles, always the fatherly figure, cleared his throat. "Invisibility is a start, but we mustn't forget our goals. We're close, and with what we've managed to extract from M.E.A.M.'s mission, we're nearer than ever. How's the progress with the genetic samples, Kamaria?"
Kamaria's gaze sharpened. "Close. Lex is getting impatient, of course. But once I synthesize the cells properly… it'll be worth the wait. We'll have something Superman himself couldn't replicate."
Shikamaru, nodding thoughtfully, added, "Speaking of replications… Waller's pressing harder for results on the Superboy prototype at Cadmus. They're going to ramp up security soon; we need to expedite our plans."
Richard folded his arms, a hint of concern in his voice. "And I've got Cyborg watching my every move at STAR Labs. He's suspicious, but so far, he's kept his distance."
They exchanged glances, the understanding unspoken but shared: the young heroes would soon come together, and their activities would be under scrutiny.
Charles leaned forward, his voice a low whisper. "The timeline's shifting, and Young Justice's formation is on the horizon. We accelerate everything — analysis, replication, implementation. M.E.A.M.'s mission has granted us the tools we need. If we're to succeed, it's now."
Natasha cheered softly, her eyes alight with excitement. "Finally! We're about to make history, and we'll do it right under their noses."
With a shared nod, the polybodies returned to their work, knowing that in their hands lay the blueprint to reshaping the future — if they could keep their family, and their secrets, intact.
