Chapter 2: 1.2 All my lives
The woman's face was set like stone, her lips thinned in disapproval.
"Stop, you will listen and listen well. I will not repeat myself or explain further, no else will tell you the information I shall now impart to you, little as it is" ,she twanged at me with her voice now hard and low, as though she really doesn't want me to hear her.
'Impart'- Chrysalis thought with a mocking twist of her lips.
The clearly angry ghost in the mirror very visibly drew a patient breath before letting it out slowly with her eyes closed. Chrysalis held in a sigh of disappointment.
The woman would do nothing to her.
She had hoped if she can rile her up she would be obliterated somehow. What ever this shape-shifting thing in the mirror was, she must have power enough to do that.
The creature smirked mirthlessy, reading her mind again, at that sight, Chrysalis did sigh dropping her gaze the floor.
"I am a sentinel" said the woman her voice soft again, "a guardian assigned to guard your fate"
'Assigned '?, she quized silently.
The sentinel carried on, ignoring her thought
" You nearly messed up, it is your fate in every lifetime to die after your soul mate has died, lucky for you, your fated one got hit by a bus and died on the spot, one second before your heart stopped beating "
Chrysalis felt sudden cold spread creepingly down her body from the crown of her head at this news. Soul mate? It wouldn't have occurred to her that, along with the existence of an afterlife wasn't anything more than the idle hope of what she had always been happy to think of as the delusional masses.
The voice rang in her ears, as the woman kept talking;"... all living things have souls not all souls are conscious. Humanity is the stage a soul reaches when its awareness beyond need and desire, close to breaking away from base instinct.
Souls are made from the eternal chaos surrounding creation...to live- to become a part of creation, subject to time- aware of your definite end, this is the purpose of existence, in order to overcome the entropy field , the dissolution of the universe itself. "
Chrysalis sighed again. A lecture she didn't want, she could tell that she had missed a part of it already.
Could she only find an end to her own existence if the entirety of creation was destroyed?
Irritation raising her voice the sentinal carried on," there are the old souls, the bits of consciousness that first parted from the elemenal chaos as the universe was formed, they have refined themselves to such levels of power that they could escape this plain of existence. They are gods child. It is them that have put down the rules that guide us, they can see the end of time itself and they know that beyond that, there is something else, something immune to death itself. "
"They are steering all creation to that point", her voice was fervent and full of reverence as she mentioned gods.
" you only have one fate, others are more burdened than you, the one and only purpose of your existence, is to live until your soul mate has died. That is all. You have the free will to do what ever you please until you can achieve your purpose. AT THE RIGHT TIME!"
Chrysalis raised her head in numbed exhaustion, no wonder she wanted to die so badly. 'This is awful, in all my lives that has been my sole reason for existing? ' she thought, and gazed at the stern, still face in the mirror, the sentinel looked at her without pity.
Her inexorable voice continued, unchanged by the despairing look Chrysalis gave her.
"If you had died before him, the sentinals assigned to both of you would have had to interfere with the timeline to undo your mistake, the repercussions could have lead to disaster. Fortunately that was averted by sheer, dumb luck.
However, the council has decided that you must be punished for the temerity. "
She smiled then.
The smile was beautiful, softening her rigid features, bringing warmth to her eyes.
Chrysalis ' skin tried to crawl off of her flesh as the sentinal spoke in honeyed tones.
" you will reincarnate with all your memories, not just from the life you so callously ended, but every life you have lived. It's a pity that the soul will merely absorb the majority of the memories in time, but for now you will relive every moment, at the same time, all at once"
It was as if the image had moved closer," when you reincarnate you will have a real reason to want to die, there's a reason people don't remember their past lives." she laughed.
It was cute and infectious, raising the feeling of mirth inside Chrysalis despite the feeling of ice in her veins.
As she took a breath to speak at last, some thing slammed into her, on every side. It was like being hit and stabbed and burned and torn.
Chrysalis screamed in agony, pain unending blinded and defeaned her as she bore under the onslaught, "I cannot survive this..."
