A Reader's Grimoire In A Novel World

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Echelons of essence [1]

"Prince, what type of essence did you awaken?" the knight captain asked as he looked at Julius.

"I awakened a magic essence of light," Julius said to the man as he took out the wooden sword from the box.

The captain seemed quite surprised as he heard about the prince's essence, and even the soldiers began to mumble between each other as they heard what he said.

In this world, essences were divided into three types: magic essence, physical essence, and mind essence.

Light essence, even if it's under the divine element category of essence elements, has now been reduced to the level of a normal element because of the curse of darkness.

'I understand their reaction. Light element users used to be supported by celestial bodies... Well, at least I still have this,' he thought as he summoned the familiar white mist before him, and his expression changed when he saw a change in the attribute he was about to put into practice.

[Attribute: Thrifter's Incarnation]

[Grade: Celestial]

[Under the support of a God who has a connection to fate, you will be talented in a limited number of things you decide to learn; (0/3). You will also receive support from fate in life-threatening situations; (0/1)

Note: My bad.]

Julius couldn't help but be stunned as he looked at the information on the attribute.

[>The Omniscient attribute has become level 2!]

Instantly, he felt himself relax even more, and he only looked at the attribute with a calm gaze.

'Guess I'll have limited choices now. I'll leave two for later; the most important now is...' He dismissed the mist and gazed at the wooden sword in his hand.

"While the light essence isn't seen as a divine essence element, it can still be useful," the captain said, putting a hand on his chin.

"We don't teach about essence here, but if you're also going with a weapon, it means you're going for the seeker path," the knight said.

"I won't discourage you. Seems like you already know which weapon to choose," the captain said and then began to walk the prince out of the field.

The field was filled with men, so it was understandable where he was being taken.

'Hm... While the seeker path is one that requires hard work, it has the most potential, and they're very versatile,' Julius couldn't help but think as he brushed the flowers by the side of the pathway with his hand.

'Now, if I can only choose three things to learn now... The first would be swords, as it is my favorite weapon.'

It didn't take long for Julius to get to the training grounds for the new recruits. He could see the multitude of teenagers like him, wearing all sorts of gear, sparring against each other.

He could see other children like him who also hope to reach new heights in this world one day.

'Hm... Amongst all of them, only a few will go to Midgard Academy. Sasha Augustine did mention they had a test in the clan to select students to send to the academy,' Julius thought as he observed all of the people there.

The main goal for seekers, mages, knights, and even telekols, is to become Gladiators—warriors that defend the kingdom from the threat of dungeons, claiming treasures from their conquest and climbing the difficult Ascension Tower.

But that was a thing of the future.

Julius still didn't know when the clan event was going to start, but it should be soon.

"Meet the teacher over there. He'll start instructing you right away," the captain pointed to another man observing the sparring as he walked around, and Julius walked forward.

A man who was walking around noticed the white-haired prince and couldn't help but frown.

He walked toward Julius, and the boy still maintained a calm expression.

"Who are you?" the man asked, looking at the white hair and purple eyes.

"Julius Veloria Augustine."

The man stood up straight and looked at the boy, and he couldn't help but get confused.

"You're the fifth prince? How... Do you have essence? You awakened?" The man seemed to be shocked, and the students that were sparring suddenly noticed the handsome white-haired boy walking amongst them.

"Ah, who is that?"

"Look, he looks like Queen Margaret."

"That means he's the fifth prince."

"The fifth prince? Nah, I can feel that he has essence; the fifth prince is talentless."

While the children talked and gossiped, the man was contemplating what to do with this boy. And most importantly, how exactly he even awakened essence.

"How did you awaken?" the man asked, being very direct.

"The Stone of Rebirth..."

As Julius said that, the man was taken aback at first, but then his eyes widened when he understood what the prince said.

"You—... The queen got it for you?!" The man's face contorted in disgust as he said that, and the people around him had to stop as he literally shouted.

Although the man seemed to think it was a waste on Julius, he couldn't do anything about it and could only sigh.

"Well, since you're the prince, I'll be the one teaching you all you need to know about sword fighting. I'll guide you on essences too," the man said, and Julius nodded respectfully.

"So, kid, how much do you know about essence?"

"Hm... Essence is a mystical force of the world, accessible by humans and beasts alike. The five echelons of essence and the 45 schemes are the ways to grow stronger," Julius explained, and the man nodded with a smile.

"What are you all looking at?!" the man shouted as he looked at the kids slacking off, and they all faced each other again.

"Seems easy enough, so why don't you show me your own essence," the man commanded, and Julius nodded before stepping back.

He focused on the sensation from before, and then a bright ball of light appeared above his hand.

The instructor looked disappointed as he saw the element, but he still nodded.

"Light. Let's get the training started, shall we—?"

"Wait."

A voice interrupted from behind the instructor, and he looked back to see a man wearing a black royal robe with the symbol of the royal family, and he bowed.

"Lord Berlin."

Julius frowned as he heard the name and couldn't help but frown at this man as he recognized the name clearly.

'Seems like I'm in the story now...'
