Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Reiji Unconscious
However, there was a clear weakness.
This formation did not block sound, which meant that noise from within could still be heard by anyone outside.
Reiji had thought of a solution: to add supporting Fuinjutsu to muffle sound and conceal activities inside.
Reiji also designed anti-surveillance seals so that no eyes could spy on what was happening in this basement.
In a world full of threats and betrayals, caution was paramount.
The entire basement shimmered.
Light from chakra ink reflected off the stone walls, creating strange shadows that seemed alive.
Reiji clenched his jaw, his teeth grinding together, producing a faint sound that echoed in the silent room.
Suddenly, the room became brightly lit.
A blinding flash of light made Reiji instinctively shut his eyes, but the strong pressure from the sealing energy began to force Reiji's body to remain upright.
In a matter of seconds, the light faded.
Reiji slowly opened his eyes, squinting as he tried to adjust to the now dark environment.
Carefully, Reiji stepped back, his eyes scanning every corner of the basement.
No damage.
No destruction.
The formation worked.
A wide smile spread across Reiji's face.
Reiji's breath was heavy, but there was a burning sense of pride in his chest.
"See? I did it—" However, Reiji's words were cut off.
Reiji's body then swayed.
In an instant, Reiji fell to the floor with a heavy thud.
Reiji's consciousness faded like a candle flame extinguished by the wind.
In the dark corner of the room, a giant creature with eight heads observed silently, Yamata-no-Orochi.
The dim glowing eyes of Yamata-no-Orochi stared at Reiji's limp body on the floor.
No emotion was visible from the legendary beast, only a chilling calmness.
One of the creature's heads moved, Yamata-no-Orochi's jaws opened, and a deep, soft voice echoed in the room.
"Human... you are pushing yourself too hard." Yamata-no-Orochi's voice sounded like a rumbling thunder whisper, carrying a piercing tone of indifference.
Yamata-no-Orochi closed its eyes, sinking back into the cold tranquility.
Yet, there was something in that silence—a decision not to act.
Yamata-no-Orochi had the potential to take over Reiji's weakened body, to possess and control the human who had treated it.
But for some reason, Yamata-no-Orochi held back.
"Maybe later..." murmured one head in a barely audible voice, before merging back into the silence.
Yamata-no-Orochi chose to wait, though the reason was unclear, and that only made its presence more terrifying.
In the midst of the now silent basement, only Reiji's faint breaths could be heard, as if struggling to survive between life and death.
Meanwhile, the seal beneath Reiji's body continued to pulse softly, keeping the space safe, for now.
...
...
...
As night enveloped, Reiji slowly opened both eyes.
His head throbbed painfully, as if a heavy object was pressing down on his brain.
This was the first time Reiji had lost consciousness in this world.
Reiji's body felt weak, yet his mind remained clear.
"Did I push myself too hard?" Reiji murmured softly, his voice hoarse from the effort he had exerted earlier.
"Yes, you pushed yourself too hard," replied a rough voice from the side of the room.
The voice signaled the presence of Yamata-no-Orochi, the legendary creature that was more often silent than talkative.
"... Hey!" Reiji tried to lift his body, his eyes focused on the voice of the giant creature.
"What is it, human?" Yamata-no-Orochi replied in a gruff tone, as if reluctant to engage further in this conversation.
"Thank you," Reiji said, although his expression showed pain, he still managed a faint smile, grateful despite Yamata-no-Orochi's unfriendly demeanor.
"Hah? What is that! Stop it, human! Disgusting!" Yamata-no-Orochi immediately became angry, its expression turning full of hatred.
