Chapter 53: A Singer and a Princess
The air in bastion remained cold as Kai prepared for an outing which may change the course of his life. Frankly, he had taken measures into turning his clothes into memories with regenerative properties just for the occasion, making sure his skin continued to course with essence.
Exiting his front door, Kai flew at top speed to the castle Morgan had made her temporary home. The speed of his flight bent space around him as he nearly crashed at her doorstep, and there Morgan was, standing before him with a bashful expression plastered across her face.
Kai couldn't help but blush, Morgan wore a flowing red dress which complimented her velvet eyes as well as her lipstick. Her hair was tied into a neat bun leaving only two strands falling loosely at the side of her face, Kai held flowers in his hands, which Morgan took tentatively fearing the effects of her flaw.
To her surprise, the flowers survived, not even looking slightly damaged at the contact from Morgan. She opened her mouth to start questioning however Kai spoke first "I've been saturating it with my essence, you can touch it freely." With a smile, Kai too her hand in his own before grabbing her firmly by the waist.
Morgan's face turned redder than it ever had before as she weakly attempted to resist his hold, in a moment, they were in the air. Morgan buried her face in the nape of his neck taking in his excellent smell as she protested weakly "Where do you think you're taking me!?" she questioned.
Kai continued to hover in the air before increasing his pace in a specific direction "We're going to a restaurant, only fit for a princess like yourself." His smile went unseen by Morgan, who continued trying to escape his grasp by burying her face deeper into his neck.
With a sigh, Kai pushed forward in another burst of speed and in a moment, Morgan found herself being gently placed onto the ground. Kai ran a hand through her hair with a slight blush, swatting away a leaf that had made contact with it before allowing her to take in the venue of their date.
What brought about their date was quite unique, a few days after Effie's funeral, Morgan came knocking on his door asking if he meant what he said about her eyes being beautiful. True to his nature Kai agreed with the sentiment in earnest, continuing to compliment her eyes before bashfully offering her to a date.
Now here they were, standing in front of a high-class restaurant, which had been emptied out on Kai's request. He led her towards their table, pulling out her seat for her as she sat down quietly.
Usually a woman of many words, Morgan found the wind being knocked out of her lungs every time she remained in the same vicinity as Kai. His subtle smile, green eyes and overwhelming kindness proved too much for her mind to handle as she continuously erupted into a blushing mess.
"Thank you, for inviting me here." Morgan commented weakly, gathering all the composure that had been forced into her mind from a young age, Morgan looked up to face Kai who had a small smile plastered across his face.
"It's my pleasure, how have you been Morgan?" his tone remained polite, Morgan was taken aback by the question, not many people asked her how her day was, most directions rather being directed towards her work life.
Responding with a smile, Morgan replied "My day has been amazing, thank you for bringing me here." Kai's smile widened as with a wave of his hand, the waiters arrived and placed down high-grade meat before the two of them.
Each piece was cut into tasteful slices as the aroma invaded their senses slowly but surely, Kai struggled to resist diving into his meal and a quick glance at Morgan made him lose all composure. A quiet laugh escaped his lips "It's not just me who's dying to dig in then?"
Morgan simply nodded in reply before beginning to take a small bite out of her meal. Her eyes widened slightly, her taste buds being overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of flavours and spices combined in a mixture that made the skill of the cooks impossible to ignore.
She took a quick glance at Kai, her cheeks reddening as she saw him doing the same. Both let out a slight laugh as they continued their meal in silence. "I've been meaning to ask, how have you managed to remain single this long?" Kai joked, before Morgan could reply he quickly followed up "Don't be offended but I have half the mind to accuse the men of Valor of blindness, not that I'm complaining."
Leaning in slightly to accentuate his point even further, he made sure to slow down his words to increase their impact. "Because I have you all to myself." Morgan's facade of composure crumbled as her flustered expression settled upon her face once more, thankfully nobody else was present in the room to see what his words had made of her.
Kai didn't know why he felt particularly flirtatious around Morgan, however anything that took his mind off the death of Effie for even a moment was extremely appreciated. "Kai, do you want to maybe...come see the ocean with me?" Morgan's voice, usually one that commanded authority came out with barely restrained excitement.
The glimmer in her velvet eyes made her hard to look away from as Kai studied her expression for a few moments. Without saying a word, Kai made his way over to Morgan and grabbed her by the waist. Hurriedly making their way out of the restaurant, leaving only empty plates to mark their presence, Kai took to the sky.
"Of course, I'd love to go anywhere with you Morgan." Her hands pressed firmly against his back, she had dismissed her gloves allowing herself to make contact with Kai's clothes and soft skin. She longed for this type of contact her entire life however the spells brutal flaw continued to deny it from her.
Yet here Kai was, holding her in his silent embrace and staring ahead. Before Morgan could speak, Kai grabbed her by the chin. A bit forcefully he pulled her face towards his own as they stared one another in the eyes, their heated breaths contacting the others skin further strengthening the mood.
To his surprise, Morgan leaned forward first, not one to lose out to anyone, Kai responded in kind as they captured each others' lips. The calming rays of light the moon emitted only served to make Morgan more beautiful in his eyes as he slowly flew towards the Ocean.
In a matter of moments, Morgan remained in his arms, floating above the ocean as they watched it glimmer and sparkle as light bounced off it's surface. The beauty of the world they were trying to protect, only surpassed by the pleasure they found in one another's company.
