Chapter 59
“——– Laura!?”
The companions of that damn elf grimaced as they headed toward the fallen spot of the blasted elf, who had been blown away.
The damn elf’s face was a complete mess, thanks to taking my uppercut.
To be honest, it was incredibly gruesome.
Since I couldn’t bring myself to kill an elf, I immediately resurrected him with a healing spell.
“Huh!? What happened to me!? Gyaaaaaaah!”
Just as she regained her consciousness, I decided to crush the important parts of the confused damn elf for good measure.
No matter how much she screamed and cried, I had no intention of healing her.
Anyone who tried to lay a hand on my wife would be castrated.
“You noisy damn elf. Shut up already, or I’ll kill you again.”
“Eh… S-Sorry! I’m really sorry!”
“I told you to shut up, didn’t I?”
As I said this, the damn elf, with a pale face and sweating profusely like a waterfall, repeatedly nodded silently, trembling all over.
I diverted my gaze from the damn elf and turned to the other elves standing behind her, flashing a villainous grin.
“So, what about you guys? Want to end up like her?”
“None of us want that!!”
Everyone shook their heads vigorously at the same time.
Very disappointing.
I was considering giving them a bit of a lecture, but then Mea stepped in front of me and bowed her head.
“Jin-sama, please refrain from doing more. We won’t be able to enter the elf village anymore.”
“…you guys..thank Mea for getting out of this alive.”
“Yes, of course! Thank you very much, Mea-sama!!”
Everyone kneeled in front of Mea and expressed their gratitude, or rather, they were practically prostrating themselves.
While they were doing this, Mea ignored them and approached me.
“Thank you, Jin. I’m really happy. I’ve fallen in love with you all over again.”
She said this with a gentle and warm smile that was meant only for me.
…That’s not fair, Mea…
For a little while, I couldn’t bring myself to look Mea in the eyes due to her cuteness and my embarrassment.
“So… will you let us in?”
I asked one of the elves who was guiding us to the village, leading the damn elf’s bound hands like a group of criminals.
The guiding elf nodded vigorously.
“Y-Yes, of course! If you’re with Mea-sama, there’s no reason not to let you in!”
“Wasn’t Mea exiled?”
I asked a question that had been bothering me since earlier. In most cases, exiled individuals would be shunned or met with negative emotions, but the elves seemed to feel respect and admiration toward Mea.
Earlier, I didn’t pay much attention to it because of that damn elf, but now that I’m calm, it does seem strange.
“…Some of the elves were responsible for exiling Mea-sama. I don’t know the reason.”
There seems to be more to this than meets the eye. Does Mea know anything about it?
I turned my gaze toward Mea with that intention, but she shook her head. It seems like Mea doesn’t know either. In that case, maybe I should try meeting with the important figures in the elf village.
As I was contemplating this, I saw a massive tree that seemed like it could go on for 10,000 meters, and beneath it was a wall of trees about 100 meters high. It wasn’t so much a wall of trees as it was a complex network of tree roots overlapping.
“…The World Tree is truly massive.”
“D-Do you know about the World Tree? I thought it wasn’t even talked about in the human world anymore…”
“Don’t pry too much.”
“I-I apologize! If you already know about it, there’s no need for an explanation. Our elf village is beneath the World Tree. You can’t see it from the outside, but it’s quite spacious inside.”
Of course, I knew about it. After all, I’ve been to it many times in the game.
The elf village was a clear case of false advertising. It wasn’t a village in terms of size at all. In fact, there were hardly any elves anywhere else, and surprisingly, in this game, the relationship between Dark Elves and regular Elves wasn’t bad, so the population was around ten million. Furthermore, if our kingdom was about the size of Tokyo, the elf village would be about the size of Chiba Prefecture. This should give you an idea of how vast their territory was. Well, about a third of it was taken up by the World Tree and the forest, though.
I was pondering where Mea’s house might be when I suddenly noticed that Mea had been unusually quiet for a while.
“Mea?”
“…Why…”
Mea stopped in her tracks, her complexion slightly worsening, and she mumbled as if lost in thought.
However, when I called out to her again, saying “Mea,” she quickly regained her composure, put on a smile, and returned to her usual expression.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, I was just getting lost in some nostalgia.”
Mea’s soft voice as she assured me everything was fine gave me a strong sense of unease. But if Mea didn’t want to talk about it, I wouldn’t force her. I trusted her more than anyone else in the world, and she had also confided in me. If there was nothing more to it, then that was fine.
But, if it ever gets unbearable…
“You can always rely on me.”
“…Thank you, Jin.”
I’ll do whatever it takes to solve anything. That’s what I believe is the purpose of my existence in this world since I was reincarnated.
