Chapter 13 - Lunch Time Together

Once the morning classes were over, Haruya and Ryoma headed to the school cafeteria together.

Both of them bought tickets for the “Lunch Plate A Set,” and in exchange for giving them to the lady, they received a tray.

The A Set is 500 yen and comes with rice, soup, salad, and three side dishes.

If it were the B Set, it would be cheaper at 450 yen, but you would get one less side dish.

“Extra large, please!”

“How can you eat that much?”

With a glance at Ryoma who piled his rice high like in a manga, Haruya moderately served his own rice and poured pork soup into a bowl. Then he chose macaroni salad, minced meat cutlet, komatsuna and fried tofu stew, and Mapo tofu.

“It’s as crowded as ever, isn’t it?”

“It’s lunchtime for everyone. If we don’t find a seat soon, they’ll all be taken.”

Holding their trays carefully with soup on them, the two wandered in search of an empty seat.

At the edge of the room, they spotted Ran and Akiba eating together. And luckily, there were two empty seats in front of them.

“Hey, ladies. Excuse us.”

Ryoma placed his tray opposite Ran and addressed her in a playful tone.

Ran raised her face from the onion soup and muttered.

“What, it’s Ryoma?”

“What do you mean ‘what’? I went to the trouble of coming here.”

“Well, we didn’t call you.”

“Heh. Even though you usually call me with a stupid voice.”

“Oh, you said stupid, didn’t you?”

Ignoring the two who were about to start their comic dialogue, Haruya sat opposite Akiba.

What was on her plate was rice, pork soup, macaroni salad, minced meat cutlet, komatsuna and fried tofu stew, and Mapo tofu. Her choice was completely identical to Haruya’s.

“Hello hello~. Wait, my dish is exactly the same as Akiba’s?”

“Huh? Oh, it really is. What a coincidence.”

“Come on! It’s fine as long as the clam in the miso soup gives out the soup stock!”

“It’s not about the soup stock! It’s a waste if you don’t eat it until the last grain!”

“Maybe Haruya and I have similar tastes in food.”

“Yeah. We both love sweets.”

Ignoring the incomprehensible discussion between Ryoma and Ran, Haruya and Akiba exchanged peaceful conversation.

The two had slightly red faces, not from the hot pork soup, but from recalling the sweet space of the dessert buffet they had visited on their first date.

“By the way…”

Apparently finishing their comic dialogue, Ran said while resuming her meal.

“We should create a group with these four people! We can communicate about assignments in class and so on!”

“Sounds good.”

“I agree.”

“I think it’s a good idea too.”

“Alright. Then I’ll invite everyone.”

Ran took out her smartphone and quickly operated it while drinking tea.

Soon, an invitation to the chat room was sent to everyone’s smartphone.

The group name was “Beach House”.

Seeing this, Haruya and Akiba’s chopsticks involuntarily stopped. Ryoma, the only one who didn’t know anything, asked with a curious look.

“Huh, what does this group name mean?”

“Hmm? I was just talking with Akiba about wanting to go to the beach this summer…”

With a slightly exaggerated tone, Ran answered while glancing at Haruya and Akiba.

Remembering everything from yesterday, especially their passionate rendezvous at the beach, the two blushed and looked down.

However, Ryoma, unaware of this, simply said, “Huh. Is that so?” and accepted it easily.

Haruya and Akiba, who had overcome one difficulty, lifted their faces and brought the pork soup to their mouths to hide their agitation. However, because their hands were shaking slightly, more soup flowed into their mouths than they had thought.

“Hot!”

“Hot!”

At the influx of hot pork soup, Haruya and Akiba cried out together.

Seeing their reaction, Ran started laughing.

“Wait, that’s hilarious! What are you two doing?”

“Really. And wait, both of you have the same thing on your plates!”

“Wow, that’s true! It’s amazing that everything matches with so many choices!”

With Ran and Ryoma’s words, Haruya and Akiba, still holding their soup bowls, blushed.

Seeing the two of them, Ryoma tilted his head.

“While it’s natural for Haruya to be embarrassed… it seems like Fuyutsuki isn’t completely indifferent either.”

Finally noticing the anomaly, Ryoma sent a glance to Ran, who smirked.

With that, Ryoma roughly guessed what was going on.

Despite their constant bickering, they were still close friends and understood each other well. Not only Haruya, but the other students, especially the members of the swimming club, thought they should date already, but the two themselves were unaware of this.

“Now that the group is set… why don’t we go out and play with this group? I don’t have any swimming club activities today…”

Haruya and Akiba looked at each other.

At least as of last night, the two had promised to hang out after school today via the chat group.

What should we do?

Haruya opened his mouth slightly and asked in lip-sync without making a sound.

Let’s go.

Akiba, too, answered in a short lip-sync.

Confirming her answer, Haruya nodded at Ran.

“I can go.”

“I can go too.”

“Okay! Then it’s decided.”

When the conversation settled down, Haruya put his chopsticks into the minced meat cutlet.

When he put it on the rice and ate it, the flavor of the sauce, the juice of the meat, and the sweetness of the rice combined to create an indescribable taste.

While enjoying the high-quality school meal for 500 yen, Haruya glanced at Akiba in front of him.

She too was eating the minced meat cutlet and rice, squinting her eyes in delight.

“She’s too cute…”

Murmuring so in his mind, Haruya took another mouthful of rice.
