Chapter 7 - Reservation
An unexpected date had just ended and as the day dawned, Haruya was walking through the university with Ryoma.
While moving to the classroom for the next class, Ryoma nudged Haruya’s side with his elbow.
“So Haruya, how was it? How did your secret date with your best friend go?”
After looking at Ryoma’s overwhelmingly lethargic interaction with cold eyes, Haruya answered flatly.
“It wasn’t anything special. We just chatted aimlessly and did some shopping for about four hours, and then when the time came, it was over with a thank you.”
“Huh, trying to act all calm and cool, huh?”
Ryoma stretched his body and shot back a sarcastic comment.
There was no way Haruya could tell him that he actually went on a date with Fuyutsuki Akiba.
To prevent Ryoma from prying any further, Haruya quickly changed the topic.
“So, how was your karaoke outing?”
“Oh, it was okay, I guess. But Haruya, maybe it was right for you to prioritize your part-time job.”
“Why is that?”
“Well, it seems Fuyutsuki couldn’t come because something came up suddenly. There were other girls there, but Haruya, you’re all in for Fuyutsuki, aren’t you?”
“Quit making horse racing analogies.”
“Well, it was still quite fun.”
For a moment, by calling her Akiba, Haruya’s heart tightened.
Fortunately, it seemed that Ryoma didn’t notice at all.
Feeling relieved, Haruya’s expression unexpectedly softened.
“What are you grinning about? It’s creepy.”
“No, it’s nothing.”
Calling her by her first name secretly, it felt like a secret just between the two of them.
Of course, from Haruya’s current perspective, there’s no guarantee that Fuyutsuki Akiba will call him by his first name in the future.
In fact, he even thinks that he might never call her by her first name again.
On the other hand, he also felt that he couldn’t miss this chance if he wanted to get closer to her.
But he didn’t know how to get closer to her.
He’s the type of guy who can help a girl he doesn’t know when she’s being hit on, but when it comes to the girl he’s interested in, he can’t even confess his feelings, let alone talk to her much, and he’s been procrastinating.
“Ryoma!”
As soon as they reached the classroom for the next class, a bright, brisk voice called out to Ryoma.
In the front of the classroom, Ran Kijima was waving her hand.
She was a cheerful girl with a boyish look and tanned skin, who belonged to the swimming club and enjoyed surfing.
“Come over here!”
Since Ryoma also belonged to the swimming club, the two were quite close.
Ryoma, being called, turned back to Haruya, pointed at Ran Kijima with his thumb, and said secretly.
“I wish she would learn a bit of the gracefulness from Fuyutsuki.”
“You two seem very intimate. That’s nice. You look good together.”
“It’s not like that with her.”
“Tsundere heroines usually say that. Just go already.”
“You, Haruya…”
Ryoma shrugged his shoulders and, despite his words, headed over to Ran.
Although they are close, Haruya knows that there is not a trace of romantic feelings between them.
Knowing this, he still teases them.
Haruya is essentially a super nice guy, but when he’s dealing with Ryoma, the dark side of Haruya occasionally emerges.
It’s a sign of their close friendship.
“Those two are pretty close, huh?”
Suddenly, a voice came from behind, and Haruya turned around in surprise.
There stood Akiba, with a smile on her face.
She tilted her head slightly and said with a slightly blushing face.
“Good morning, Haruya.”
“Good morning… Akiba.”
“She called me by my first name again…!”
“She called me by my first name again…!”
Indeed, Haruya and Akiba, both feeling the same thing, relaxed their expressions.
If there had been a meddlesome esper around, they might have been teased for creating such a romantic atmosphere.
“I had so much fun yesterday, going out with you, Haruya.”
“I’m glad to hear that. I had a great time too.”
“Hehe, I’m glad you said that. And when I got home, my sister told me…”
Akiba sat next to Haruya and showed him the screen of her smartphone.
On it was the site where Haruya was registered as a rental boyfriend, and astonishingly, Haruya’s page was open.
“Wait! What kind of embarrassment game is this…?”
“Oh, no! I didn’t mean that at all…”
Akiba operated the screen carefully, one step at a time.
“My heart is pounding…! Well, it’d be a problem if it actually stopped… But Haruya can’t hear it, can he? I’m okay, right?”
“Akiba… what are you… Could it be!?”
A date is chosen.
A time is chosen.
A plan is chosen.
And then Akiba’s finger touched the words “confirm reservation.”
“Ah…”
“Hehe. I’ve reserved your time after school today, Haruya.”
Saying this with a slightly embarrassed look and a blush on her cheeks, it was such a wicked move that one could not help but respond.
Of course, Haruya was completely knocked out.
“Oh, class is about to start.”
“There’s no way my heart can stand being next to her during this class…!”
Akiba quickly stood up and moved to a seat a little further away.
Haruya, still confused and not knowing what had just happened, watched her leave.
And there was one more person.
From the front of the classroom, Ran Kijima was secretly watching the two.
“Hmm, those two…”
