Accidentally Entering the Wolf's Den and Becoming the Alpha's Lover

Chapter 3: 3. Spare Your Live.

"I have no intention of letting you live... Every midnight during the full moon, I always see you watching my pack from your apartment window. Do you think I'm blind? If a human like you exposes our secret to the outside world, it will ruin everything. And I cannot let that happen."

'That wasn't intentional, you know! I wake up in the middle of the night because of strange dreams, and every time I do, all I see is your group of weird people. I didn't mean to watch you!'

Aurora gasped for air as the large, furry hand gripping her neck tightened. Her vision blurred, and her body grew weaker.

'Am I going to die here?'

"Please…" Her voice was faint and broken. "Spare—my life. Let go—I can't breathe…"

The man's eyes bore into hers coldly, as though he were staring at a lifeless doll. "Why should I spare your life? It means nothing to me."

As soon as he finished his sentence, a sudden gust of wind swept through, tossing Aurora's hair into disarray and gently swaying the surrounding potted plants.

The man froze abruptly, his expression tense, his eyes fixated on the blood trickling from Aurora's neck, staining her skin. The scent of it drew him closer, his face nearly brushing against the wound.

He sniffed the blood slowly and then paused. "You—"

His once-cold gaze turned to one of shock. His grip loosened and then released entirely.

Aurora collapsed to the floor with a soft thud, coughing harshly and greedily inhaling air.

The man stepped back, his eyes never leaving Aurora. His lips moved as he whispered, "Cursed blood."

Aurora had no idea what he meant.

The man covered his face with his now human-like hands, his shoulders trembling before he suddenly began to laugh. Aurora, terrified by his laughter, tried to crawl further away from him.

"I never thought I'd meet the bearer of cursed blood here," the man said, his eyes narrowing. "After hundreds of years… I've finally encountered cursed blood again."

His deep voice pierced the air as he slowly, deliberately approached Aurora, who was huddled in the corner.

Aurora panicked, trying to retreat, but her back hit the wall. Her breaths came in short gasps, and her eyes widened as the man crouched in front of her.

He touched the blood on her neck with his finger, then licked it slowly. His movement was unsettling, making Aurora even more afraid. His gaze remained locked on her, like a predator satisfied with its prey.

His hand reached out, his fingers gently gripping Aurora's chin, lifting her face to make her meet his eyes.

"I just spared your life," he said coldly.

Aurora swallowed hard, too frightened to speak.

"In exchange, you will stay with me," he continued.

"S-stay?" Aurora whispered, her voice barely audible.

The man didn't answer Aurora's question. He snapped his fingers, and suddenly, two figures—a man and a woman clad in black cloaks—appeared in an instant, kneeling behind him.

"Some dark forces are approaching this area. Keep an eye on them," he ordered.

The man in the black cloak nodded. "Yes, Master." In the blink of an eye, he vanished.

The man glanced at the remaining woman in the black cloak. "Take this woman to my unit."

"At once, Master," the woman replied without hesitation.

The man stared at Aurora briefly before walking away, leaving her trembling in the corner.

Aurora touched the wound the man had left on her neck and winced.

'Why does the wound feel hot?'

She rummaged through her pocket, pulling out a small mirror, and brought it close to her face. Three scratch marks marred the side of her neck. But what panicked her even more was the faint, strange glow emanating from the wound.

"What's happening to me?" she whispered.

A hand extended a handkerchief toward her. Aurora looked up to see the woman in the black cloak.

"I'm Zoyne," the woman said, her voice calm but firm. "I am a Beta. My master, Caius Vayne, is the Alpha Supreme of our pack. From now on, you will stay with him. I'll show you his unit. Follow me."

'Alpha? Beta? Stay with that insane man who almost killed me? Do you think I have a death wish?'

Though Aurora refused in her heart, she didn't dare voice it. Zoyne radiated danger too, though not as much as Caius.

Aurora could only stand, accept the handkerchief, press it against her wound, and follow Zoyne reluctantly.

The hallway they walked through was filled with twists and turns, its walls painted black. At the end stood a grand door adorned with intricate carvings.

Zoyne stopped in front of the door and turned to face Aurora.

"Enter," she said. "Remember, do not anger Master if you value your life."

Aurora stared at the door, her heart pounding.

'Escape. I need to escape.'

"Wait, my belongings are still in my unit," she said quickly. "I'll go grab them first." She stepped back hastily, but Zoyne was already standing in front of her like a shadow.

"Master's servants will retrieve everything," Zoyne replied firmly.

Aurora tried again. "My phone—"

"That will be retrieved as well."

'Damn.'

Aurora reluctantly followed Zoyne into the unit. As they passed through the grand doors, Aurora almost lost her balance.

The space behind them was like a palace. Velvet-covered sofas, expensive paintings, and crystal chandeliers radiating warm light.

Everything looked breathtaking.

'How does that lunatic have such impeccable taste? Did Zoyne bring me to the wrong room?'

"Change your clothes," Zoyne commanded, handing her a set of clean garments.

"Why do I need to change?"

Zoyne pointed toward Aurora's neck.

Aurora noticed that her pajamas were stained with blood from the wound on her neck.

"Master will return shortly. You can rest in your room."

Aurora nodded and accepted the clothes before heading into the room indicated.

After changing, Aurora stared at her reflection in the mirror.

'How did I end up like this?'

Flashbacks of the rooftop incident flooded her mind. Caius's hand transforming into something monstrous, and the murderous aura that surrounded him. She had nearly lost her life to a man who didn't seem human at all.

'How could his hand change into something so horrifying?'

Caius Vayne—that was his name. Then there was Zoyne, the woman in a black cloak who claimed to be his subordinate.

'Alpha? Beta? What does any of that mean? I don't understand.'

•••

When Aurora left the room, she made sure to check her surroundings. Zoyne was nowhere to be seen, and Caius hadn't returned yet.

'This is my chance to escape.'

She walked cautiously toward the door. Her hand was just about to grasp the handle when the door suddenly opened from the outside.

Startled, Aurora quickly crouched down, pretending to search for something.

Caius raised an eyebrow as he saw Aurora crawling on the floor.

"What are you doing?" His voice was deep and cold.

Aurora looked up, scanning Caius from head to toe.

Caius looked disheveled, a far cry from his appearance on the rooftop earlier. His face was spattered with blood, and the sharp scent of it emanated from him.

'Did he just kill someone?'

Aurora swallowed hard. "I'm looking for my ring. I think it fell around here."

Caius stared at her, as if assessing her.

Aurora stood up nervously, trying to appear composed. She still didn't know why Caius had brought her to live with him. She had to remain cautious. Caius might have spared her life earlier, but that didn't guarantee her safety. He could very well kill her at any time.

Caius tossed his jacket onto the sofa before walking to a cabinet. He opened a drawer, pulled out a bottle of alcohol, some cotton, and a bandage, and then approached Aurora.

He poured alcohol onto the cotton and began cleaning the wound on her neck.

Aurora bit her lip to suppress a cry as the sting of the alcohol hit her wound.

The proximity between them was so close that Aurora could feel Caius's breath on her neck.

What was stranger, though, was the sensation every time Caius's hand brushed against her skin. It felt like a gentle, comforting jolt, leaving her craving more of his touch.

'What's wrong with me? What is this feeling? I didn't feel this when he was choking me earlier.'

"Are you wearing musk perfume?" Aurora asked suddenly.

Caius's hand paused. His eyes locked onto Aurora's, sharp and intense, making her flinch.

Aurora's heart pounded wildly. 'Why does he look angry? Did I say something wrong?'

She quickly clarified. "I smell it every time we meet. I don't find it bothersome—it's actually soothing. I didn't mean to offend you. Are you... mad?"

'Please don't choke me again. Please don't choke me again.'

Caius didn't answer. He simply took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, before continuing to wrap the bandage around her neck.

Aurora, growing increasingly anxious, grabbed the bandage from Caius's hand and stepped back quickly. "I can tend to my wound myself."

'Otherwise, he might strangle me with this bandage.'

Aurora turned to leave but hesitated, turning back to face Caius. She bowed deeply at a 90-degree angle. "Thank you."

'For sparing my life this time.'

She quickly retreated to her room, shutting the door hurriedly behind her.

Caius remained standing, staring at the door she had just closed.
