"Adam, Heir of Water and Eternal Vengeance"

Chapter 5: The Forest Duel

Adam's heart pounded as the massive demon lunged forward, its claws slicing through the air. Valendra raised her bow, unleashing an arrow imbued with golden light that struck the demon's shoulder. It howled in pain, but the attack only seemed to enrage it.

"Stay back!" Valendra shouted to Adam and Kael, leaping into the fray with the agility of a seasoned warrior. She moved like a shadow, her movements fluid as she dodged and retaliated with deadly precision.

Adam clenched his fists, feeling a surge of frustration. "I can't just stand here!"

Kael placed a hand on Adam's shoulder. "If you charge in without a plan, you'll only get in her way. Focus, Adam. Use your powers."

Taking a deep breath, Adam centered himself. He raised his hands, feeling the flow of water in the air around him. Summoning it, he shaped a spiraling whip of liquid, which he lashed toward the demon's leg. The creature stumbled, giving Valendra an opening to strike.

But the demon was relentless. It lashed out with its tail, sending Valendra flying into a nearby tree. She gasped, clutching her ribs as she struggled to stand.

"Valendra!" Adam yelled, rushing toward her.

"I'm fine," she said through gritted teeth. "But we need to end this quickly. Adam, aim for its core. The center of its chest—that's its weak spot."

Adam nodded, his determination renewed. He gathered the water around him, forming a massive sphere above his head. It pulsed with energy, glowing with a faint blue light.

"Keep it distracted!" Adam called to Kael.

Kael smirked. "On it." He charged at the demon, his twin daggers glinting in the dim light. His strikes were precise, each one keeping the demon off-balance without fully committing to a direct attack.

As the demon roared in frustration, Adam unleashed the water sphere. It shot forward like a cannonball, slamming into the demon's chest. The creature let out a deafening screech as cracks of light spread across its body.

Valendra used the moment of distraction to fire an arrow directly at the demon's core. The projectile pierced through, and with a final, guttural roar, the demon disintegrated into ash.

The forest grew quiet once more, save for the heavy breathing of the group.

"Good work," Valendra said, nodding to Adam and Kael. "But that was only a scout. There will be more."

Adam wiped the sweat from his brow, his heart still racing. "If that was just a scout, what are we up against?"

Valendra's expression darkened. "Something far worse. The demon king's forces are growing stronger. We'll need to prepare for what's coming."
