After the car accident, my boyfriend got straight

Chapter 12

Shen Li had just descended the stairs when he realized he had forgotten something. He cursed under his breath and went back upstairs. Before reaching the door of the dormitory, he heard laughter inside, two male voices, one of which was clearly Jiang Shiyu’s.

He frowned, unable to discern his expression. A contemptuous smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. It seemed like he was quite popular, with people coming and going in the room one after another.

He pushed the door open directly. The two people inside were startled by the sudden intrusion. Wang Qing reacted first, standing up from his chair and politely greeting him. Shen Li glanced at him and ignored him.

Jiang Shiyu didn’t know why he had suddenly returned, so he asked, “Why did you come back? Did you forget something?”

Shen Li slammed the cabinet door shut with an unreadable expression. “Am I disturbing you?”

Jiang Shiyu didn’t understand why he was suddenly angry. He took two steps back, not wanting to stand in the way. However, these two steps brought him closer to Wang Qing, as if he was trying to avoid him.

Shen Li’s face grew darker.

The atmosphere in the dormitory became somewhat tense. Wang Qing glanced at him, then at Jiang Shiyu, and cleared his throat to break the awkwardness. With a smile on his handsome face, he said kindly to Jiang Shiyu, “Shiyu, I’ll come back later to help you make the bed.”

“Senior, thank you for your kindness, but it’s not necessary. I’ll take care of it myself.”

He nodded in agreement, then turned and left the dormitory.

After Wang Qing left, Jiang Shiyu turned to tidy up the bedding, leaving Shen Li standing alone in place. He walked back and forth in the dormitory as if he couldn’t see him, completely ignoring him.

Shen Li felt a nameless anger rising up inside him, feeling even more annoyed by Jiang Shiyu’s indifference than when he caught him laughing with another guy earlier.

He sat back at his desk, took off his sports bag, and moved around vigorously, making a lot of noise. However, Jiang Shiyu seemed oblivious to it all, focused on his own tasks.

Fine, if he wants to play hard to get, then so be it. He used to act all pitiful, seeking his attention, but now that there was someone new at school, he didn’t even bother pretending.

Jiang Shiyu stuffed the quilt into the cover haphazardly. He was too weak to do it properly, so he just left it on the bed. After zipping it up, he felt a tickle in his throat, coughing softly while covering his mouth. But it seemed like the coughing fit couldn’t be stopped once it started.

The coughing grew louder and more intense, and he felt it increasingly difficult to breathe. He leaned against the edge of the bed, trembling as he reached into his backpack.

His face turned bright red, and he felt dizzy, as if he were drowning, his breath being suppressed. The backpack slipped from his hand, but a large, slender hand caught it. His body suddenly went limp, and he cried out in alarm, “What are you doing?”

Shen Li lifted him up abruptly, startling him. “What?”

He turned him around and placed him on his neatly made bed, then took out a thermos cup from his backpack and handed it to him.

Then, without saying a word, he returned to Jiang Shiyu’s bed and pulled out the bedding, repositioning it according to the four corners.

Jiang Shiyu leaned against the edge of the bed, with a soft pillow behind his back, staring at Shen Li who was making his bed. He blinked, and tears welled up in his eyes.

“The quilt has been in the cabinet all summer, and it smells. Call Uncle Zhang and ask him to bring a new one.”

Jiang Shiyu understood what Shen Li meant and suddenly realized something. His eyes widened. “I see.”

Shen Li turned to look at him, his eyes questioning.

Jiang Shiyu lowered his gaze, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Due to my allergic constitution and mild asthma, crawling around in a moldy quilt that hasn’t been aired out for a long time may have triggered the symptoms.”

Shen Li’s face immediately darkened upon hearing this, wanting to scold someone. But when he saw him lying weakly on the bed, he felt that scolding him might make him collapse.

He gently lifted Jiang Shiyu’s chin, turning his pale and weak face to face him. “What? You’re so happy and attentive when talking to others, but you can’t wait to stay away from me.”

Jiang Shiyu’s body went weak, feeling wronged. He didn’t understand why Shen Li suddenly returned and got angry for no reason, making Wang Qing leave awkwardly. Now he was blaming him on unfounded grounds. He bit his lip and remained silent.

“I know your body is not in good condition, why didn’t you ask for help? Lie down for another five minutes, then we’ll go to the hospital.”

“It’s okay, I have my medicine with me. I’ll be fine after using it.”

Shen Li insisted, and when Jiang Shiyu’s complexion improved slightly, he carried him out of the dormitory without hesitation, all the way to the school gate.

Along the way, countless curious onlookers cast their eyes on them, but he pretended not to notice, while Jiang Shiyu, feeling powerless, simply pretended to be dead and buried his head in Shen Li’s arms.

He could feel the warmth of Shen Li’s breath against his neck, accompanied by the faint sound of his breathing. “By carrying me like this, people will misunderstand our relationship.”

Shen Li snorted. “Are you worried that guy who came to see you earlier will misunderstand?”

He looked up at Shen Li’s chin. “You seem to have misunderstood Wang Qing.”

“Why are you defending him?”

Jiang Shiyu puffed his cheeks. “No, Senior Wang is the dormitory supervisor of our floor. He’s a very kind person. He just happened to pass by and saw that I couldn’t make the bed properly, so he came in to help me.”

He raised his head slightly to look into Shen Li’s eyes. “You don’t even remember him?”

Shen Li didn’t say anything. His memories of the recent past were fragmented, with occasional flashes of familiar scenes that he couldn’t connect. He had forgotten everything related to Jiang Shiyu, including some people associated with him. Many things were no longer remembered.

“In the future, don’t talk to Senior like you did just now in the dormitory. It’s impolite,” Jiang Shiyu said softly.

At the school gate, a taxi that Shen Li had pre-booked was waiting. The driver got out and opened the back door. He placed Jiang Shiyu inside, then closed the door and got in from the other side.

At the hospital, after a series of procedures, the doctor gave the usual advice, which Jiang Shiyu had already memorized. He sat in a daze on the chair, feeling mentally drained.

Then he saw Shen Li sitting beside him, listening attentively to the doctor’s instructions, his expression focused and his lips tightly closed.

It was a very familiar sight. Every time he went to the hospital for treatment, Shen Li would be more focused than him, carefully noting down every word the doctor said, afraid of missing anything.

A sour feeling rose in his chest. The person in front of him was still the same, but the memories of their time together had been lost.

To him, it felt like Shen Li had a different soul in the same body. No matter how much he looked like him on the outside, he wasn’t the same person anymore.

On the way back, Jiang Shiyu seemed visibly less energetic than before. For some reason, going to the hospital seemed to have dampened his mood. He leaned against the car window, staring outside without blinking.

Shen Li turned to look at him several times. He was thin and frail, and in the interplay of light and shadow, his face seemed almost translucent, like a fragile glass doll that might break at any moment.

A nameless emotion surged in his heart, tangled in his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.

Back in the dormitory, Jiang Shiyu’s bedding had been replaced with a new one, and Uncle Zhang and Auntie had already helped tidy up everything. There was even a thermos on the table with some medicinal food prepared by Auntie Bai Yun.

Jiang Shiyu took out his phone and indeed found a message from her an hour ago.

“Shiyu, the medicinal food on the table was stewed in the afternoon. Remember to drink it.”

He replied to her message and sat at the table to open the thermos. A faint medicinal aroma filled the air. After a busy afternoon, he didn’t have much of an appetite, but her medicinal food was light and just right.

“Shen Li, Auntie made some food. There’s a lot, let’s eat together.”

Shen Li held his phone, which showed messages from his friends asking him to go out for barbecue. He paused for two seconds, then deleted the message.

“I have something to do, you guys go ahead.”

He then sent the message.

He was nearly 190cm tall, and with his boxing and swimming background, he had a well-proportioned and tall figure. Sitting next to Jiang Shiyu, he seemed to dim the surrounding lights.

Jiang Shiyu divided the contents of the two thermoses, giving himself a smaller portion and handing the larger one to Shen Li.

“Auntie made this medicinal food for me. It might taste a bit strange,” he reminded him.

Shen Li raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were the son of the Shen family.” Then he took the thermos from him and, without saying a word, began to eat. Jiang Shiyu followed suit.

Shen Li had a big appetite and ate quickly, finishing his meal in no time. He put down his chopsticks and leaned back in his chair, watching Jiang Shiyu eat.

It must be said that good-looking people eating is a feast for the eyes. Jiang Shiyu ate slowly and gracefully, not rushing, waiting until he had finished chewing before taking another bite. The porcelain spoon against his rosy lips, barely entering his mouth, was like a tender and delicate shellfish, being pried open by someone from the outside, slowly and enticingly.

The moist and agile tongue flashed briefly and disappeared, and the shellfish closed tightly, no longer allowing anyone to explore.

After he finished eating and wiped his mouth with a tissue, placing the porcelain spoon aside, Shen Li looked into his bowl and saw that he had hardly eaten anything.

“You only ate this much?”

Jiang Shiyu looked at the medicinal food in the thermos and replied, “I’ve already eaten a lot, I’m full.”

“Kittens eat more than you. No wonder you always look sick. Eat some more.”

Jiang Shiyu felt aggrieved. “But I really can’t eat anymore, I’m already full.”

“Don’t lie to me, let me feel.”

With that, Shen Li reached out and touched his stomach.

When they returned to the dormitory, Jiang Shiyu took off his coat, leaving only a thin T-shirt underneath. The scorching heat of Shen Li’s palm penetrated through the cotton fabric to his stomach, causing him to tremble, and his face instantly turned red.

Unfortunately, Shen Li seemed oblivious, touching him as if nothing was wrong, like stroking a cat, running his palm in circles against his stomach. His flat belly had little give, and Shen Li’s large hand almost covered his entire waist.

“What a slender waist,” he thought to himself.

Jiang Shiyu was tickled and embarrassed by the touch, struggling to push his hand away. His face and ears turned red, looking like he had been bullied.

“Okay… that’s enough. Stop touching,” his voice was soft, lacking any intimidation.

Shen Li’s face showed a hint of amusement. “Hmm, it seems like it’s bulging a bit now. You must be full.”

In an instant, Jiang Shiyu’s face flushed with embarrassment, and even his ears and neck turned red.

This phrase… this phrase was something Shen Li used to tease him with when they were in bed together.
