After Writing a Story for My Husband and Brother

Chapter 40: 007|Problem without answers(2)

Zhong Shao praised Xiaohui's case. Yu Cheng asked, "What is the common goal of WAT, Hengsheng Law Firm, and 'Progress' in collaborating on legal assistance and public opinion effects?"

"How did you find out?" Zhong Shao asked, with a faint smile.

Yu Cheng was the third person to ask him, and the other two were Yao Lan and Dong Yi.

Indeed, Zhong Shao was not surprised. "WAT's ultimate goal is to work with scientists and medical experts worldwide to explore means of prolonging life and even curing HIV/AIDS. Our target group mainly consists of patients infected with sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS among homosexuals. The former has the support of your family, and in addition to a trustworthy and influential alliance for selecting target individuals, it also requires a professional legal team to handle related cases." P

Yu Cheng independently analysed every medical case sponsored by WAT, finally connecting to a certain point in the traceable clues.

"So," Yu Cheng looked into Zhong Shao's eyes and continued, "the ultimate goal of legal assistance and public opinion effects is to cast a long line to catch big fish. Not only do we want to bring these marginalised groups and events to the public's attention but we also hope to one day influence the formulation of relevant regulations."

This is not a fantasy of one person; it is the ambition of a group of people. Behind them, countless others are pushing forward. Yu Cheng could even imagine how many joys and sorrows Zhong Shao had experienced before making such a determined decision.

"Those who know me, Yu Cheng is one of them." Zhong Shao smiled with a meaningful look, no longer doubting that someone could understand his thoughts without speaking.

"It is because you lay everything out in front of me that I can guess," Yu Cheng chuckled, meeting Zhong Shao's eyes.

The conversation shifted back to the initial topic, "My opinion on the Xiaohui case is..."

The next day, on their way to meet Yao Lan and Dong Yi, Zhong Shao and Yu Cheng received news about the announcement of the first domestically reported case of AIDS "cure" at the AIDS Immunology Laboratory, known as the "Taotao Patient."

"Does Yao Lan know about your orientation?" Upon hearing the news, Yu Cheng asked an unrelated question.

Zhong Shao almost instantly grasped Yu Cheng's thoughts, "She knows, and she seems quite pleased about it."

"Pleased?" Yu Cheng was a bit puzzled by this reaction.

Tapping lightly on the steering wheel, Zhong Shao asked, "Have you ever heard this phrase?"

"What phrase?"

"I support LGBTQ+, not for others, but to prevent myself from becoming a gay wife."

Later, the group met at a private tea house, where Zhong Shao and Yu Cheng entered the private room to find Yao Lan and Dong Yi already enjoying their tea.

"Hey, seeing is believing." Dong Yi politely extended his hand to Yu Cheng, "Dong Yi from Hengsheng Law Firm."

Yu Cheng shook his hand, "Hello, I'm Yu Cheng."

After a brief exchange with Dong Yi, Yu Cheng greeted Yao Lan as well.

The four of them paired off and took their seats facing each other.

Yu Cheng has learned from Zhong Shao that over the years, the original intention of "Forward" has evolved from the initial purpose of "creating a mutual aid community for wives of gay men" to the current goal of "standing here to reduce the possibility of another wife of a gay man existing."

Yao Lan mentioned that after learning her husband was gay, Xiao Hui visited the "Forward" website to browse for information, posted inquiries about "what it means to be a woman after experiencing life as a wife of a gay man," and found information about Hengsheng Law Firm on the forum. Following Dong Yi's advice, Xiaohui went to the hospital for STI testing and was diagnosed with late-stage latent syphilis.

Upon diagnosis, Xiao Hui immediately started treatment, which could eliminate inflammation within the tissues but struggled to repair the already damaged tissues.

"For most wives of gay men, filing for divorce is the final step they can take. In all cases of divorces involving wives of gay men, successfully obtaining custody rights is challenging to prove. They find it difficult to directly provide evidence that their spouses deceived them by being gay, or to prove 'marital breakdown' directly. However, Xiaohui is very clever; she has direct evidence that Ahui is gay."

"The uniqueness of this case lies in the involvement of female roles under the paternal system, women's sexual equality rights, sperm bank issues, same-sex marriage issues, family responsibilities, and moral issues," Dong Yi glanced at the two highly qualified individuals opposite him and said bluntly, "You should know that the overall moral quality of the homosexual community is not higher than the average quality of all Chinese people."

Zhong Shao continued after Dong Yi's remarks, "WAT once conducted a survey on AIDS among male homosexual patients, which indicated that the overall mental state of male homosexuals who enter into marriage with wives is more negative. They have a high incidence of negative emotions such as anxiety, induced by deception and pressure in heterosexual marriages, fear of disease transmission and identity exposure. For them, the veil of heterosexual marriage does not reduce their self-identity and self-respect."

"As the person in charge of WAT, Xiaohui may not entirely fit our target beneficiary group, but personally, I believe it is very worthwhile," Zhong Shao pushed the documents to the centre of the desk. "According to the information and data collected by Dong Yi, our country's sperm bank has only been established for over forty years. Before that, the label of not being able to have children often fell on women. I think it's time to give women some respect."

Yao Lan flipped through a few pages of documents and said, "Dong Yi is right. The uniqueness of this case lies in the sperm bank. Its existence indicates that Xiaohui is not the first wife of a gay man seeking help from a sperm bank."

In fact, this is the first time since its establishment that "Forward" has encountered an event related to a sperm bank.

"So..." the thoughts of the four individuals collided.

Upon leaving the tea room, the moon was already rising in the western sky.

"Are you trying to push me out to save yourself?"

Back in the car, before Zhong Shao started the engine, he heard Yu Cheng's inquiry from the back.

During the teatime meeting, Zhong Shao made it clear that he would not directly participate in the Xiaohui project, instead, Yu Cheng would represent himself and WAT to be fully involved.

"You don't know?" Zhong Shao turned to speak with ambiguity.

Yu Cheng naturally guessed the reasons behind it, but he wanted to hear it directly from Zhong Shao.

"I don't know."

The confined space reverberated with the strong heartbeats of the two.

"Yu Cheng, show me with your strength that we stand shoulder to shoulder as partners sharing responsibilities."

This statement might sound unpleasant at first, but upon reflection, it revealed the intricate thoughts of Zhong Shao.

The experiences and experiences in different age gaps can lead to many differences in life. Zhong Shao simply guided Yu Cheng in his own way to do what he wanted to do, without using his own words, allowing people to accept him because he was Yu Cheng from the beginning.

"Now I understand, watch closely."

Their eyes met, diamonds shining in their pupils, both knowing what to do, speeding on the edge of overspeed on the way home.
