Chapter 3: Lurks In The Darkness
All three of them look at the photos, noticing Dabi fighting against someone wearing a goat mask.
Dabi: Dude, not cool. You photoshopped me...
He glares at Shigaraki, annoyed, but then realizes it's just a camera that prints the images, so there's really nothing he can do about it.
Overhaul: So what does this mean? Is there another version of you that we can't see?
He glances at Dabi, puzzled by the situation. It was certainly an unexpected turn of events for him.
Dabi: Look, I don't know. This is unexpected. I can't explain it, to be honest.
Feeling uncomfortable about the situation, Dabi wants to leave, but a part of him is curious about what's going on, despite his fear.
Shigaraki: You guys, this is perfect! Since we're in a real-life horror movie. Do you know what that means? We have a mystery to solve!
He feels excited about the scenario, even though, judging by the expressions on his friends' faces, it seems they aren't quite as thrilled about what just happened.
Overhaul: Are you serious? This screams 'get out while we still can.' This is completely terrifying. I don't know if I want to be here anymore.
He trembles slightly after everything that just unfolded once they entered the cabin, peering out the window to see rain still falling from the sky.
Dabi: I'm with Shigaraki, even though it's a bad move from the start. Deep down, I want to know what's happening. I believe the answer is in the cabin.
He glances at Overhaul's disapproving reaction. Overhaul clearly dislikes the idea but Dabi can't blame him.
Overhaul: You're thinking about going down there...
He looks at the cellar door. Just the sight of it makes him feel like something bad is going to happen. He senses he is being watched as if someone is observing his every move. He can't handle it anymore.
Shigaraki: You could always stay up here and keep watch while Dabi and I check what's down there.
He speaks calmly, but suddenly the cellar door creaks open by itself, startling everyone.
Dabi: ...
He hesitates to approach the open cellar door, but his curiosity ultimately prevails. His heart pounds as he steps closer, revealing stairs leading down into pitch darkness.
Shigaraki: ...
He uses his cell phone to light the way but looks back at both Dabi and Overhaul, wondering if they will follow him.
Overhaul: This screams a bad idea... People always die when they go down...
Feeling a pounding in his head—it's a sign that his pills are wearing off—Overhaul's eyes widen in realization. He rushes back to his backpack to search for them, but they aren't there. He checks his pockets frantically, unable to find anything. The noise coming from the cellar resembles the sound of a pill bottle rattling.
Overhaul: ...
His eyes widen as he realizes that his pills are down in the cellar. It feels as if something wants him to go there, but he wonders why it is him.
Dabi: I guess you're on board now, even though I don't want to give it what it wants. So, Overhaul, you're staying up here.
He then looked at Overhaul as he decided to head down the stairs with Shigaraki, who was lighting the way.
Shigaraki: I knew that staying in this cabin was a bad idea. I had to admit that Overhaul was right about that. But I'm too stupid to even listen.
As he illuminated the area with his cell phone, he heard movement coming from below. However, it was dark, and he couldn't see anything. The sounds resembled someone running away, and the sound of a pill bottle had stopped, causing both him and Dabi to freeze.
Dabi: Let's keep going, even though we might be fighting a ghost, and obviously, we can't win.
(Meanwhile, in the cabin room)
Overhaul: Fuck why are my pills wearing off now?
He cursed under his breath. He began banging his head against the wall, and blood started to appear on his forehead. The effects of his unknown illness, which caused violent mood swings, were already taking their toll.
Overhaul: Son of a bitch!
He shouted in frustration. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to regain control. Suddenly, he heard whispers, which made him open his eyes in confusion. His eyes widened as he realized he wasn't in the room anymore; he was somewhere else entirely. His heart began to race as he panicked, fearing that something or someone wanted to harm him. He quickly backed up against the wall and pulled out his cell phone, illuminating the room with its flashlight.
Overhaul: What do you want from me?
He called out, trembling in fear as he heard chanting from a group of people. It sounded like they were surrounding him, but he couldn't see anything. As he moved the flashlight around, he caught sight of a man wearing a goat mask, accompanied by others who also had goat masks on. His eyes widened in terror, and he immediately ran.
Overhaul: Why me? Why did this have to happen to me?
Hearing the sound of his pill bottle from right behind him, he turned back slightly to see it on the floor next to a broken mirror. He hesitated to go near it, wondering if it could be a trap given the obvious situation. Clenching his fists tightly, he decided to approach the pills, moving slowly as he felt his heart pounding in his chest. Once he reached the bottle, he stopped and slowly reached for the pills, only to notice a book lying right next to them. The book had a symbol of a goat along with a pentagram. Out of curiosity, he decided to pick it up.
Overhaul: What is this?
He felt a cut on his hand that caused him to drop the book. Looking down, he noticed the symbol on the cover glowing. It was a strange design, featuring a goat-man. He recognized that symbol from somewhere.
Overhaul: Baphomet...
He mumbled to himself.
(Meanwhile, in the dark room.)
Shigaraki: Who would have thought this cabin holds secrets?
He glanced over at Dabi while using his flashlight, which was on his phone, to illuminate the room. It turned out to be a library filled with books.
Dabi: Remember, our task at hand is to find Overhaul's pills.
He looked at Shigaraki as he slowly walked toward the bookshelves but suddenly heard a noise in the darkness. Assuming it was Shigaraki, he turned around, only to realize Shigaraki was standing right behind him.
Shigaraki: Let me try something.
He suggested while pulling out his camera and began taking pictures of the room. Each flash from the camera revealed that the room seemed empty. The images were printed quickly.
Shigaraki: ...
He stood in silence, his heart stopping as he gazed at the pictures of people wearing goat masks in front of the camera.
Dabi: I've had enough. Let's just get the hell out of here right now.
Suddenly, movement in the darkness startled both of them. Dabi glanced at Shigaraki, who was trembling, sensing that something else was in the room with them. Without hesitation, they both took off running back upstairs, their hearts racing as fear pushed them to run faster. Upon reaching the door, they threw it open quickly.
Dabi: Overhaul! It's time to go!
He shouted as he scanned the area, trying to locate where Overhaul could be.
Shigaraki: Where did he go?
He asked anxiously as he looked at Dabi, who was focused on the door that led to the basement.
This will be continued in the next chapter.
