Am I too Lucky?

Chapter 6: Preparation for Exploration

As soon as I arrived at class, I noticed everyone glancing in my direction. I hadn't had the chance to look at myself, but judging by the blushing faces and whispered conversations among the females, I must have undergone a noticeable transformation.

Instructor Jianfeng turned to me, his tone sharp but not unkind. "Look who finally decided to show up. I'll bring some papers to your desk covering what you've missed. I've been covering for you for two weeks now, but the academy director says he won't tolerate any more absences without his permission."

I bowed, "Thank you Instructor Jianfeng."

Making my way to my seat, I was relieved to find myself surrounded by male classmates. In my past life, I had always been awkward around girls, unsure of what to say or how to act. This arrangement suited me just fine. However, to my confusion, the boys sitting near me quickly scooted their chairs away.

"Did I offend any of you in some way? If so, I apologize," I said, puzzled.

Realizing their actions had been misinterpreted, they moved their chairs back and stammered out an explanation. "No, Sir Xingyun, we just didn't want to offend you. We apologize."

I smiled reassuringly. "Ah, I see. It's understandable, considering how many narcissistic young masters from high-ranking families exist in this world. I hope to get along with you not as the young master of the Shi family, but simply as Xingyun, your academy classmate."

After a bit of lighthearted conversation, I began to relax. Were these my classmates, or should I call them friends? Either way, it felt nice to talk to people without any tension. Eventually, I turned my attention to the papers Instructor Jianfeng had provided. It seems that tomorrow, we will be going outside of the academy to explore one of the forbidden lands of Star Planet.

From what I've read in my books, Star Planet is the central planet of the Upper Realm, where all the large sects and families reside. It was often referred to as the Transfer Planet, the only place connecting the Lower and Upper Realms. Both realms were vast universes teeming with galaxies, planets, and stars. The main difference lay in the density of Qi and the power levels of their inhabitants.

Though the exact size of the realms remained unknown, If I had to guess, Earth was a planet in the Lower Realm in the outskirts. A place not yet founded by cultivators, which I supposed is a good thing. I'll have to go looking one day.

Reading further, I mumbled, "The forbidden land is called Mystic Mist Mountain. Apparently, it appeared out of thin air. It's assumed an ancestral-level treasure landed there, shrouding the entire mountain in mist and fog."

Instructor Jianfeng, overhearing my murmurs, addressed the class. "That's correct, Xingyun. The purpose of this expedition is to provide practical experience in several key areas. First, it will help you gain confidence in combat, particularly against beasts. Second, it will teach you how to survive in the harsh realities of the cultivation world without relying on luxuries. That said, before we leave, you'll be required to turn in all your money, status cards, and other currency related resources."

A chorus of groans and complaints erupted around the room. With a sharp snap of his fingers, Instructor Jianfeng silenced the protests.

"Good, you're learning," he said. "Still, to complain about something so minor shows how sheltered you all are. You'll come to appreciate this experience one day. Now, Xingyun, could you tell the class what the most significant opportunity in this trip might be?"

I hesitated. Why would he suddenly call on me?

I replied, "Considering that it is a forbidden land, there is also the chance to obtain treasures. Whether it be enlightenment or quality items, they are all things a cultivator would want to covet."

I mean, it was quite obvious, but especially so for me, a guy who loved xianxia (cultivation) novels growing up. That was of course, before my parents died.

Instructor Jianfeng nodded approvingly. "Exactly. Many who have survived the forbidden lands returned with newfound treasures, skyrocketing from obscurity to fame. Some became geniuses seemingly overnight. I'm sure you can understand the allure of this opportunity."

The room that was once filled with dread was suddenly filled with excitement, but of course, Instructor Jianfeng had to ruin the mood.

"That being said, you will not be exploring in groups. Each of you will venture alone. While instructors and cultivators will monitor your progress, they will only intervene if your life is in immediate jeopardy."

The excitement drained from the room as everyone groaned in unison, "Can I opt out?"

Instructor Jianfeng's voice boomed. "No, you cannot opt out! Do you know how much effort it took to get the Empire's permission for this expedition? Blah blah blah..."

Apparently, it was a common thing to walk out at this time. It seemed both Instructor Jianfeng and my Father shared a fondness for lecturing endlessly over minor things.

I couldn't help but feel a spark of anticipation. The idea of finding treasures was exhilarating. Yet, deep down, I couldn't shake the thought that my luck had already been spent, from being born into the Shi family to possessing unparalleled talent in cultivation and the Sword Dao. If my past life was any indication, I'd be lucky if...

I cut myself off mid-thought. That kind of negativity was what had held me back in my previous life. I was different now; I was strong, capable, and ready to take on challenges. Most Core Formation cultivators wouldn't stand a chance against me.

As dusk settled, I lay on my bed, thoughts of the upcoming adventure keeping me wide awake. The idea of going all out, testing my limits against beasts and perhaps even rival cultivators, made my blood surge with excitement.

One hour later... two hours later... three... four...

"Seriously? I can't sleep!"
