America 1881: Legend of the West

Chapter 119 Escape

Colonel George Crook was a true Indian expert. He was the top commander of the Arizona Military District. He was responsible for driving the local Indians to the reservation and using guns and cannons to let them understand the beauty of the civilized world.

However, ten years ago, when he was forced to come to this ghost place by President Grant, he almost went crazy.

No flowers and rivers, no beauties and tennis balls.

There is only boundless desert, scorching heat, elusive Indians, and a useless army.

He spent years telling his useless officers how to not have their heads cut off by Apaches in the middle of the night, or how to avoid being raped by a group of men on horseback early in the morning because they were drunk the day before. Rush into the camp and chop them into pieces.

He didn't look like a soldier at all. He had a thick golden mustache and a messy beard on his chin. When he went out on operations, he braided his beard and put it into his clothes.

In the field, he rarely wore military uniform.

At this time, he was riding a horse, looking at the train approaching in the distance.

"Sir, are they really going to attack this train? From what I know about Geronimo, he won't show up so easily." The adjutant next to the colonel asked.

"I know him better than you do," replied the colonel. "The high priest Astor bought from us was his teacher."

"But why don't we just use him as bait?"

"If it were you, would you lead dozens of soldiers with bows and arrows, backward rifles, swords and spears to attack a military camp of hundreds of fully armed federal soldiers?" The colonel didn't want to answer this question. The problem that can be figured out at once is that he is really disappointed with his men.

Since Astor is willing to pay, let him be the bait.

As a high-ranking military officer, he never accepted the blame of New York's plutocrats.

His original plan was to let the armed forces on the train hold back the Apaches, or to kill them directly. At best, he would wipe them out with a thunderous force here.

The scouts ahead had reported the attack and had not seen any Apaches evacuate the train.

They were still on the train, most likely caught by the Pinkerton detectives.

His men gave the order to stop the train from a distance.

The original driver was beaten to death by the robbers, and the new driver was from Pinkerton.

The train slowed down and approached gradually.

"Get ready to fight!" Colonel Crook said to the dark cavalry behind.

But when the train really stopped slowly in front of them, everyone was dumbfounded.

Only the front half of the train was left, while the freight car at the back was parked in the distance.

Dozens of horses galloped out of the carriage and ran towards the distance.

……

Chen Jianqiu led everyone and ran back.

He had no intention of trying to challenge the hundreds of well-positioned U.S. Army soldiers who had to find a way to evacuate.

Ahead was the carriage containing their horses and luggage.

Geronimo and Chen Jianqiu opened the carriage door from the top.

Like a ray of golden light, a golden eagle flew straight out of the crack in the door and soared into the sky.

"What was that just now?" An Indian boy rubbed his eyes, as if he saw the totem of his tribe.

"A silly bird." Chen Jianqiu replied.

A group of people entered the compartment from under the roof, and the wounded and the still unconscious Luo Cen were also picked up by the soldiers from below.

"Danny! Cut off the hook and pull the brake!" Chen Jianqiu shouted to Danny and a few Apache boys at the connection.

"Hurry up!"

The brakes were tightened, the hooks were released, and the people and horses in the carriage fell forward suddenly. This was much more violent than the lukewarm deceleration method before.

Chen Jianqiu watched the first half of the train go away. Thank God, the derailment he was worried about did not occur.

"Quick, mount up! We don't have much time."

Black Radish was very impatient for being locked up in this dark carriage. He and Corn, the "sons of freedom", couldn't stand this depressing feeling at all.

So, when the carriage slowed down, he rushed out with Chen Jianqiu.

Geronimo and Asuka followed, and then the Dannys with unconscious Lozen.

The horses of the Apache warriors had stayed behind during the battle and could not catch up for a while, so they directly rode on the other horses in the carriage.

These horses actually originally belonged to the Pinkerton detectives, and among them was an Astor purebred Arabian horse, which is now Geronimo's mount.

This improvised team quickly entered the wilderness and fled in the opposite direction to Crook.

The muscles on George Crook's face were twitching. He never expected that the Pinkerton detectives, who were known for their elite and capable abilities, would be defeated in such a short period of time.

Hostages, horses, and guns were all robbed.

His leading cavalry team had already dispatched and was chasing the group of people.

If I can't catch Geronimo this time, I'm afraid it will be even harder in the future.

The horses galloped forward at full speed on the wilderness, dust and yellow sand flying behind them.

"Chief, which direction are we going now?" Chen Jianqiu looked back at the Apache Chief behind him. He knew that in this land, only Geronimo could escape the numerous federal cavalry chasing after them. Do it.

After all, this is not the first time he has done this. He is better at using the terrain than anyone else.

The chief did not speak, he just silently drove the Arabian horse to the front of the team.

They quickly entered a valley, then passed through a barren valley at the bottom, and finally detoured through an inconspicuous mountain pass.

After the sky gradually darkened, the cavalry had long disappeared behind them.

"This mountain is called Devil's Mountain. I have been here five years ago. If you are not familiar with it or there is no one to guide you, you will not be able to get out for a while," Geronimo said.

It seems that these cavalrymen will be keeping company with rattlesnakes and cacti tonight.

Now that they had gotten rid of their pursuers, the team naturally slowed down. In this high-speed state, the wounded could not bear it.

Loczen has woken up. Teresa's treatment has been very effective. She has been able to move after drinking water.

They came to a valley, where a group of Indians appeared on horseback. They were the Apaches who had made an appointment in advance to come to meet them.

"By the way, I don't know your name yet." Geronimo looked at Chen Jianqiu and asked suddenly.

"My surname is Chen, just call me Chen."

"It's getting late. If you don't mind, let's meet my tribe together." The chief extended an invitation to Chen Jianqiu.

Of course, Chen Jianqiu would not forget the purpose of his trip. He still had many things to ask the high priest, if what Astor said was true.

"Okay." He agreed happily, "I happen to be very interested in you."

A full moon hung in the wilderness sky.

Under the moon, a team headed deep into the wilderness.

Thank you for the monthly tickets of Bulige. Thank you all for your subscriptions and recommended votes. I went to have dinner tonight. The second update is a little late. Sorry.
