Ch24 - The Popularity of Monster Treats

Chapter 24: The Popularity of Monster Treats

The cookies made with snack cooking skills were cute, shaped like little rabbits, and were bite-sized for humans.

Himeri quickly took one out of the bag, her expression brightening. She took a bite in one go.

“Wow, what are you eating!?”

“It just looked so delicious, so I couldn’t resist…”

“I get that feeling, but…”

Yes, the rabbit-shaped cookies were intended as treats for familiars, but they were made so well that they could easily be sold as human snacks without any issue.

As Himeri munched on the cookie, she nodded with satisfaction and gave a thumbs up.

“It’s delicious!”

“Seriously…?”

Nero had thought the taste might be subtle, given they were for monsters, but it seemed not to be the case. He decided to try a rabbit cookie himself.

It was crunchy and pleasantly aromatic, making him smile involuntarily.

(This is good enough to serve as my own snack…)

The ingredients were all edible by humans, except for the Moonlight Grass, which is used in potions, so it shouldn’t be harmful.

(I might have one of these when I get a bit hungry.)

As he thought about this, the Berry Rabbits, attracted by the cookie smell, gathered around.

“Meep.”

“Me?”

“Mimi~!”

“Wow, they really can’t wait to eat them.”

Himeri chuckled and petted the Berry Rabbits, who squinted their eyes happily.

Then, Luke, who had been lounging on a beanbag, came over.

“What’s this? It smells great! You’ve saved some for me, right?”

“Ah…”

Oh no! Nero had forgotten to make some for Luke!! Panicking, he saw Himeri offering a rabbit cookie to Luke.

“These cookies are really tasty. How about trying one?”

Himeri smiled to put Luke at ease, but Luke snorted and came over to Nero.

“I’ll tolerate this cookie for now. It’s important for me to know what my subordinates are eating.”

Despite this, Luke’s tail wagged enthusiastically.

Nero then had a sudden thought.

(Could it be… he’s shy around new people?)

Having been alone in the forest for so long, it made sense. Nero decided to observe Luke without forcing him.

“I’ll give this to Luke. Himeri, could you give some to the Berry Rabbits?”

“Of course!”

Nero took out a rabbit cookie and brought it to Luke.

“It’s made with carrot, strawberry, and Moonlight Grass.”

“So, no meat?”

“I thought adding meat to cookies might be odd…”

Though slightly dissatisfied, Luke took the rabbit cookie without protest. His ears perked up and twitched in response.

(It was tasty after all…)

Since Luke enjoyed the human-friendly treat, it was no surprise that Nero found the cookies good.

“Hmm… well, it’s not bad!”

“That’s good to hear.”

Luke’s tail wagged proudly as he declared, “I can eat more!”

His earnest gaze and anticipation left Nero with no choice but to comply.

“But, eating too much isn’t good, right?”

“Such things are no problem with exercise. I’m a noble Fenrir, not to be compared with lowly monsters!”

“Alright, alright.”

Having promised to exercise with Luke, Nero accepted his attitude and took out more rabbit cookies.

Immediately, Luke opened wide and chomped down.

“Whoa! Don’t eat my hand too!!”

(It felt like it might get bitten off…!)

Watching them, Himeri also took out rabbit cookies from the bag and called the Berry Rabbits over.

“Come here, come here~”

“Me~”

“Mimi~”

Soon, all ten Berry Rabbits gathered around Himeri, eagerly waiting with their mouths open.

“So cute…”

Himeri couldn’t help but cover her mouth, overwhelmed by their adorableness.

“I’m so happy I can give treats to such cute ones.”

As Himeri offered a cookie, the Berry Rabbits eagerly pounced on it.

“Mimi~!”

“Me~!!”

Their enthusiasm was intense, a stark contrast to their previously cute and calm behavior. It was a display of survival of the fittest.

“Ahhh!”

Even Himeri was taken aback by the speed at which the cookies disappeared.

The Berry Rabbits, disappointed, looked glum.

“Don’t worry, there’s still more!!”

The Berry Rabbits’ faces brightened at Himeri’s words, and they made happy sounds.

And later.

The menu at the Fluffy Cafe was updated with “Snack Rabbit Cookies” for 300 Chel.

“Oh, what’s this?”

The three adventurers who had become regulars, Grizz, Arul, and Nina, arrived. As usual, they ordered drinks and showed great interest in the new menu item.

“Hehe. You’ve noticed the new addition!”

Nero explained the snack system, and Nina’s eyes sparkled immediately.

“Yes, yes! I’ll have a snack too!”

“I’ll have one as well!”

“I’ll stick with just tea.”

Nina ordered a snack, while Arul took his usual seat on the sofa. Nina pouted, seeing this.

“It’d be nice if Arul had a snack too.”

Nina mentioned it was a good chance to interact, but Arul simply said, “Not really.”

Seeing this, Grizz and Nina chuckled.

“Even though he says that, he never complains about coming to this cafe.”

“Well, the drinks are good here too.”

Grizz and Nina headed to play with the Berry Rabbits, who were eager to greet them since they were regulars.

(I need to quickly prepare drinks and snacks!)

Though the drink menu was simple, just adding hot water.

(We haven’t expanded the menu much, after all.)

With only Nero working, it was best to keep things manageable. Expanding would lead to too much work.

Nero quickly prepared the drinks and rabbit cookies, and Grizz and Nina eagerly reached out.

“Here you go. Be careful as they come at you fast once you open the bag.”

“Hmm? Oh!”

(They probably don’t realize what’s coming…)

Ignoring Nero’s warning, Grizz opened the bag immediately. As expected, the Berry Rabbits rushed in with tremendous speed.

“Ahhh!”

Even Grizz was surprised and stepped back. However, the Berry Rabbits were focused solely on the open bag.

“Mimi!”

“Me~!”

The Berry Rabbits happily munched on the rabbit cookies, looking very satisfied.

“Wow, what an appetite… But Grizz, you’re in for a treat, this is your chance to shine!”

“Hey, what do you mean ‘chance to shine’!? It’s not the end!!”

“Haha.”

Grizz shouted that he was still going strong, and Nina laughed.

“I’ll give out one cookie at a time.”

Nina discreetly took out the rabbit cookies and tempted the Berry Rabbits. Only a few from the edges came to her, making for a more peaceful snack time.

Watching Nina, Grizz muttered, “There’s a lot more to this Fluffy Cafe than I thought…”
