Ch41 - Luke and the Frisbee

Chapter 7: Luke and the Frisbee

After leaving the city gates, Taichi rode on Luke’s back for about an hour.

They arrived at a grassy field atop a small hill. Soft flowers bloomed, and a pleasant breeze gently caressed Taichi’s cheeks.

It would feel amazing to take a nap lying on the ground.

“So, how exactly do you use that thing called a frisbee?”

Luke seemed very curious about the frisbee, staring intently at it. Had Luke ever looked at anything with this much focus before?

Taichi chuckled, thinking it would be easier to show him rather than explain it with words.

“Watch me. I’ll show you.”

“Hm?”

Taichi took the frisbee and flung it forward with a swift motion. Thanks to the perfect wind, it flew about 70 meters.

“Wow, that went pretty far!”

Since Taichi rarely had the chance to play with a frisbee, he was impressed with his own throw.

After running to retrieve it, it was time to explain the game to Luke.

“Just like I did, I’ll throw the frisbee, and you catch it, Luke.”

“Huh?”

Taichi was taken aback by Luke’s serious expression.

(Well, this world probably doesn’t have games like this…)

Still, Luke’s confused face was a bit much, and Taichi pouted.

“Let’s just give it a try! You might find it fun once you try it!”

“Well, if you insist, I suppose I can go along with it!”

“Alright, thanks! Here we go—take this!”

This time, Taichi put more force into his throw, hoping it would fly even farther. However, just as he braced himself for a long throw—

Chomp!

—Luke caught the frisbee just a few meters away.

“No, no, that’s not how…!!”

Well, maybe that is how, but… sure, Luke could easily catch it right away…

“That was simple,” Luke said nonchalantly. Taichi thought the person who invented the frisbee probably didn’t expect a Fenrir to play with it.

(Alright, time for a new strategy.)

He decided to explain properly.

“Listen, Luke, the point of the game is to catch the frisbee just before it hits the ground.”

“Right before it falls?”

“Exactly! It’s cooler if you catch it just before it touches the ground.”

“Sounds like a strange game.”

Luke snorted and said, “Let’s try again.”

It seemed he understood the concept now. With any luck, this time Luke would catch it farther away.

Taichi breathed a sigh of relief and called out, “Let’s do it again!”

“Yeah, I’ve got it. Catching it right before it hits the ground is what makes it graceful, right?”

“I don’t know about ‘graceful,’ but it’s definitely more fun that way!”

With that, Taichi threw the frisbee once more.

“Here it goes!”

He swung his arm wide, aiming to send it flying as far as possible. Luke focused on the frisbee as it flew—but didn’t move.

“Uh, Luke? You’re supposed to catch it, you know?”

Concerned, Taichi asked, “You get it, right?” to which Luke responded with a huff of amusement.

“With my speed, catching up to that thing is nothing.”

Once the frisbee reached about 60 meters and began to descend, Luke kicked off the ground.

With incredible speed, Luke caught up to the frisbee in an instant. If Taichi hadn’t been paying close attention, he wouldn’t have been able to follow Luke with his eyes. That’s how fast he was.

In just a few seconds, Luke caught the frisbee right before it hit the ground.

“Wow, that’s amazing.”

Watching Luke’s speed firsthand made Taichi realize how much care Luke took when carrying him around.

(He may say a lot of things, but his actions are always so considerate.)

As Luke returned with the frisbee in his mouth, Taichi patted and fluffed the fur around Luke’s neck.

“As expected of you, Luke! You nailed it on the first try!”

“Of course! I’m a noble Fenrir; this is child’s play for me!”

Luke’s tail wagged enthusiastically, clearly pleased with the praise.

“Come on, throw it again! You can try throwing it even farther this time.”

“Hm? Alright, here we go!”

While throwing it farther might be tough, Taichi didn’t mind trying again. He took a running start and threw the frisbee with all his might.

“Take thattttt!”

But he had put too much strength into it, and the frisbee only went about 30 meters before falling.

Luke caught it easily and gave Taichi a look as if to say, “Was that your best effort?”

A former corporate slave with little exercise experience couldn’t possibly match Luke’s high-level expectations.

“Sorry, I just can’t throw it well.”

“Is throwing it that hard?”

“Not really… it’s easy to throw, but getting it to fly far is tricky.”

“I see.”

Luke swung the frisbee around in his mouth and casually tossed it about 10 meters away, showing that it was indeed hard to throw it far.

“…Hmph.”

“Tough, isn’t it?”

Before Taichi could ask to have the frisbee back, Luke seemed to have figured out the trick. He threw the frisbee again, and this time it easily flew over 100 meters—maybe even farther.

“What the…? You made it look so easy!”

Luke gave a smug grin, leaving Taichi speechless.

(Well, it makes sense… Luke’s agility is easily a hundred times better than mine.)

“I threw it, so now it’s your turn to go fetch it, Taichi.”

“What do you think my stamina is like?!”

That’s impossible for me!
