Ch49 - The Usual Routine
Chapter 15: The Usual Routine
“Alright, let’s get started!”
“Are you sure you don’t need to sleep?”
As Taichi rolled up his sleeves to set the mood, Luke came up beside him. The Cerberuses were running around inside the shop, playing with Berry Rabbits and Forest Cats. Seeing them, Taichi smiled.
“I’d feel bad sleeping before Himeri gets here. I’ll push through a bit, then rest afterward.”
“Don’t overdo it.”
“Thanks, Luke.”
Since they had been traveling all night, Luke seemed concerned for Taichi. He rubbed his nose affectionately against Taichi.
“I’m fine… wait, this is about…?”
Taichi thought Luke’s nuzzling was a show of affection, but on closer inspection, Luke’s nose was actually pointed at the magic bag hanging from Taichi’s waist—not at Taichi himself. Why there? Taichi quickly figured it out. The magic bag contained Luke’s favorite bead cushion.
“Totally forgot about it. Here you go, Luke, your bead cushion.”
“Taking it out before I even asked? Not bad!”
Luke wagged his tail happily and plopped down on the cushion. He let out a big yawn.
“Running all day was tiring. I’ll rest for a bit.”
As soon as he said that, Luke lay down on the cushion and fell asleep almost instantly. It took just a few seconds. Though Luke had seemed energetic, carrying both Taichi and ten Forest Cats must have worn him out.
“Thanks, Luke.”
Taichi covered the sleeping Luke with a blanket and began working on making toys and a cat tower.
The items to make included popular cat toys: a feather wand, balls, a tunnel, and a cat tower. Although the fluffy café already had balls, they didn’t have bells in them, so they didn’t make any noise. For the Forest Cats, Taichi planned to add bells. Of course, other familiars could play with them too.
“Let’s start with the feather wand. Creation (Physical)!”
With Taichi’s skill, a feather wand materialized instantly. Having made one before at Forest Cat Pavilion, he completed it easily. He then created a ball with a bell inside and a tunnel in quick succession.
“Cat toys apparently break easily, so it’s probably a good idea to have extras on hand.”
Since it was a shop, he couldn’t leave broken toys out. While he could always make more, he couldn’t use Creation (Physical) in front of people.
(This kind of cheat skill isn’t something normal people have…)
“Let’s say I make ten of each. I’ll keep some spares in the back and leave a few in the shop.”
He continued using his skill, making two, then three toys, even preparing different colors.
“Maybe they’ll have color preferences, too.”
With that in mind, he figured each cat would find their favorite toy. Taichi felt a sense of satisfaction after making so many feather wands, but the big job still awaited him—the cat tower.
The wall-mounted shelf type he made at Forest Cat Pavilion was nice, but this time he wanted to put some thought into the aesthetics.
The tamed Forest Cats were small, with the littlest ones being about 20 cm long.
“Considering that, I should have a smaller cat tower, too, right?”
On the other hand, Ume, being the boss of the group, was 80 cm tall—about one size larger than a regular cat.
“I’ll need a big one, too…”
Maybe having two towers would be the way to go. A smaller one by the window, so they could look outside, and a larger one in the corner of the shop, tall enough to reach the ceiling.
For the small one, he decided to make the gaps between levels narrow, so even smaller or weaker cats could use it easily. He made sure not to forget this as he used his skill.
“Creation (Physical)!”
He visualized a 3D model in his mind and shaped it into his ideal design. A cat tower about waist-height appeared, with low steps and a lounging space on top. Since it was for Forest Cats, the design was inspired by the forest, featuring flowers and leaves that matched the fluffy café’s interior. The posts were tightly wrapped with sisal rope so the Forest Cats could use them for scratching.
“Not bad at all.”
He also hung yarn balls from strings, confident the cats would bat at them with their paws.
“Next up is the big cat tower. Alright, let’s get to work!”
With all his ideas packed into the project, Taichi eagerly began crafting the second cat tower.
