Another World Fluffy Cafe

Ch71 - Everyone Wants to Be Tamed

Chapter 11: Everyone Wants to Be Tamed

Taichi and his group had made it halfway up the mountain, setting up camp and taking a breather. This would serve as their base for conducting ecological surveys of the area.

Although they encountered some monsters along the way, Gries and his team easily took care of them. There were no other unusual or dangerous creatures present.

(This should be a peaceful mission), thought Taichi.

On top of that, the opportunity to tame fluffy creatures as part of the job made it the best mission ever.

In cases like this, he didn’t need to turn the tamed monsters into familiars. He was free to release them back into the wild, but… no way, that would be a waste.

Fluffy squirrels are a blessing. Even though the café was small, Cologris were tiny creatures, so bringing back a few shouldn’t be an issue. If it were 10 of them, Himeri might have something to say about it, though…

“Well, let’s call it a day. We’ll take turns keeping watch, so Taichi and Sofia, go ahead and rest in the tent,” Gries said as he added branches to the campfire, encouraging them to get a good rest.

“Thanks.” “Oh, uh… sorry, thank you very much.”

The tents were split—one for the men and Luke, and the other for the women and Cerberus. This arrangement came about because Nina had desperately wanted to sleep with Taichi, but Cerberus had volunteered to be her snuggle partner, resolving the situation.

(Well, there’s nothing better than sleeping with a fluffy creature…)

Taichi could sympathize with Nina’s feelings. However, it hadn’t even crossed his mind that Gries might be hoping to have Cerberus sleep with him too.

The next day arrived without any monsters attacking in the night, allowing everyone to sleep soundly. Luke, who had curled up next to Taichi, contributed to his peaceful slumber.

(That was the best fluff ever…)

If this continued, Taichi could happily camp out every night.

“Right, today’s the ecological survey.”

They were to check out the area around the camp. Luke and Cerberus stayed close to Taichi, while Gries’ party stayed near Sofia, acting as guards.

Sofia was busy examining herbs and plants.

“Haahh! This is…!! Isn’t this Cologri grass?!” “If the grass shares the mountain’s name, it can’t be that rare, can it?” “What are you talking about, Nina! Cologri grass is extremely valuable. It’s rarely seen in markets. You see, its sprouting method is quite unique. The acorns from Mount Cologri are the favorite food of Cologris, and sometimes, the acorns they partially eat and leave on the ground will sprout. But since Cologris don’t normally leave food behind, it’s a rare occurrence. It’s believed that Cologris’ magic transfers slightly to the acorn, allowing it to sprout.”

“Uh, yeah… okay…” Nina was left speechless by Sofia’s sudden enthusiasm.

(So Sofia becomes quite talkative when it’s about something she loves…)

Taichi could relate since he also found himself chatting endlessly when it came to cats or anything fluffy.

‘Hey, Taichi! Are you going to befriend some Cologris?’ “Yeah, I’ll ask them about the mountain’s situation. It’s an important job.”

‘You’re a man who gets the job done, Taichi!’ “Thanks, Chlorol! Your praise means a lot.”

With that encouragement, Taichi felt ready to give his all. If only all bosses were like Chlorol, the world would be a much happier place.

‘Why not bring all the little ones back with you?’ “That’s… tempting! But Himeri would definitely get mad.”

While Noel’s suggestion was appealing, taking all the Cologris back to his fluffy café would disrupt the mountain’s ecosystem, defeating the purpose of the mission.

“All right, let’s get to work! Is there a Cologris out there who’s willing to be tamed?”

Just as Taichi scanned the surroundings, a crowd of Cologris appeared, raising their tiny hands and eagerly trying to get his attention to be tamed. Some were so excited that they dropped the acorns they were holding.

(Wait, are they all hoping to be tamed by me?)

His heart skipped a beat at the sight.

‘Hey, everyone, line up!’
‘You can’t tame all of them!’
‘How could you choose just one?’

Cerberus, acting like a manager, skillfully lined up the Cologris. The line stretched out endlessly.

(I didn’t know there were this many Cologris…)

But picking just a few was no easy task. After all, they were all adorable. Oh, this was a dilemma.

As Taichi grinned in delight, Luke stepped forward.

‘If you’re going to tame one, it should be the strongest! The strongest Cologris in this mountain, step forward!’

At Luke’s command, a stir ran through the crowd as the Cologris glanced at each other, trying to figure out who was the strongest.

‘I’m the fastest at running through the trees!’
‘I’m the best at picking out the tastiest acorns!’
‘No one can eat more than me!’

The Cologris began boasting about their individual strengths, making for an amusing and heartwarming scene.

As Taichi pondered what to do, a Cologris noticeably larger than the others stepped forward.

‘When it comes to being the best in this mountain, there’s no one but me!’

With two acorns marked on its back and a scarred, slightly chipped ear, it had the air of a true mountain leader.
