Chapter 13: A New Customer

“Ahhh, nothing beats the comfort of the café!”

After returning from a joint request, Taichi was savoring the tranquility of the Mofu-Mofu Café. While it was nice to go outside and meet new people, nothing felt quite as calming as being in his own place.

Today was a slow day, so Taichi was relaxing at the counter.

‘Oh! I wanna go back to the mountains again!’
‘It wasn’t so bad.’
‘It was fun playing with everyone!’
“Well, let’s go again sometime.”

At Cerberus’s words, Taichi nodded without hesitation. They had fun running around in the mountains with the Korogris, playing games like tag and hide-and-seek that Taichi taught them. However, none of the Korogris could keep up with Cerberus’s physical abilities. They were found and caught almost immediately, and it was hard to watch.

(Well, that was cute in its own way…)

Now, the leader of the Korogris had become a new addition to the Mofu-Mofu Café. He had a big appetite and always begged the customers for rabbit-shaped cookies. When he got tired, he’d nap at the top of the cat tower.

“Still, I’m glad there’s only one extra mofu-mofu… Are you sure it’s just one? You’re not hiding any others, right? If you tell me now, I won’t be mad.”

“Wait, wait, wait, Himeri! I only tamed the leader!”

“Hmm… if you say so…”

Despite Taichi’s 100% taming success rate, his credibility was questionable. Himeri gave him a side-eye before breaking into a smile.

“I’m just kidding! But I think the café’s expansion is just around the corner. Joint requests contribute a lot to the guild, and knowing you, you’ve done something impressive again, haven’t you?”

Himeri’s eyes seemed to gaze into the distance as she said that.

“It’s nothing like that, really…”

“No, no, absolutely you have!”

“Wha—?! Wait, Sophia?!”

Sophia suddenly joined their conversation, standing by the entrance—she must have just arrived.

“Is something wrong? Oh, did something go wrong with the request!?”

Taichi panicked, but Sophia shook her head.

“No, not at all. I just, um… got curious about the Mofu-Mofu Café…”

“Oh, so you came as a customer?!”

“…Yes.”

Sophia nodded in a small voice.

“Ha, hahahaha… haaa!”

After ordering tea and chocolate, Sophia began interacting with the fluffy creatures. Well, she was mostly walking around and observing them.

“C-C-Could it be? An ore hedgehog?! Hello!”

‘Hi there.’

Sophia couldn’t understand Ruby’s words, but watching her made Taichi smile warmly.

“Wow, there are so many forest cats! Is this one friends with the ore hedgehog?”

‘Nah, it’s my turn. Ume’s gorgeous, smart, and amazing.’

‘S-stop saying things like that!’

“Uh? They’re playing around, how cute.”

Ruby’s casual compliments to Ume made Taichi feel a bit embarrassed. Or rather, it gave him a sweet, slightly awkward feeling.

(Ah, youth…)

Sophia then started petting a Berry Rabbit and more forest cats, clearly enjoying herself.

(Should I give her some snacks as a service? She did help with that request, after all.)

Taichi grabbed a bag of rabbit-shaped cookies and walked over to Sophia.

“Sophia, these are treats for the creatures. You can give them some if you like.”

“Oh, thank you.”

“They all love these.”

As soon as Sophia took the cookies, all the fluffy creatures in the café turned their attention to her. It seemed they were all hungry.

“Ahh… w-wow…”

Seeing them gather around, Sophia’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“Oh, they’re truly wonderful! The strawberry on the Berry Rabbit’s head improves potion taste when used in alchemy. Each forest cat’s flowers and leaves have different properties, and some are sweet while others are bitter. And the ore hedgehog… it’s just incredible!”

“Sophia…?”

“Ah! I-I’m sorry! I got a bit carried away. Don’t worry, I won’t pluck anything from them or anything…”

“It’s fine.”

(Now that I think about it, Sophia’s the type who gets absorbed when it comes to herbs and materials.)

She was viewing the mofu-mofus not just as adorable creatures, but also as valuable resources.

“Everyone seems to love these cookies. H-here you go…”

When Sophia timidly offered a cookie to a Berry Rabbit, the Korogris leader swooped down from above, shouting, ‘I’ll take that!’ and snatched the rabbit cookie in one gulp.

“!!”

Before Taichi and Sophia could react, the leader had already eaten the cookie.

“You’re from Korogri Mountain… seriously.”

Sophia laughed as she shared the remaining cookies with the other fluffy creatures, thoroughly enjoying her time at the Mofu-Mofu Café.
