As a Lucifer in DxD

Chapter 88: Nine Tails, Nine Problems

Third Person PoV

"My Lord, here is the list you had asked for."

Grayfia handed over a page. Cain was already holding the list Serafall had sent over.

He looked over at the book list and saw 24 books missing and 14 destroyed. Out of them 20 missing and 4 destroyed ones were of normal magic.

The remaining 4 and 10 were of soul and death magic.

"If I remember correctly, I destroyed 9. The missing four were transferred by me to the hideout below the Vatican. So he did manage to get one before me!"

Cain muttered and then looked at the list given by Serafall. And he was surprised to see that less than ten pure-blooded devils had gone missing.

Of course, the total number was much higher but pure blooded were truly low. Out of the given ten, eight bodies were taken back by their families.

"While one died by a god's hand, so there was nothing left, Serafall herself said she checked it so it should be fine, so the left one is Abaddon?"

Abaddon's clan trait was Hole. Yeah, right hole, not the normal one but a special one.

A hole in space, which can redirect and absorb any kind of magical and physical attacks, of course, physical attacks could only be redirected.

Enough mystery could allow the teleportation, of a huge number of people, even entire cities could be moved.

"This makes catching him much more troublesome, he can just teleport. Unlike magic-based teleportation which can be stopped by magic. The Hole would require space lock down to stop."

"My Lord, who are you talking about?"

"Who else but my brother?"

Grayfia looked in shock at Cain. Her eyes had narrowed down to a needle. She asked.

"He is alive?"

"Somehow, yes. I also figured it out today, he must have recently gained a new body, quite possibly this Abaddon's or maybe the Blephegor's."

Cain said he couldn't rule out that Serafall had been fooled. He must take every single precaution.

Maybe when he finally confronts his brother it will be anticlimactic, he will kill him easily but even so, he will make preparations.

After all, Prevention is better than cure.

"Do not tell this to anyone, although I am almost sure he is alive and planning something nefarious, it is better to get a 100% sure."

"Yes, my Lord."

Cain had once again come back to Japan, Kyoto to be precise.

"Until Ajuka and Falbium get their work done I should look around for a Yokai."

Cain said as he began to walk around the city. Medieval Japan was a unique place. Honour mattered a lot here.

Cain suddenly looked around to see a small child glaring at him. Cain looked behind him and saw no one.

He then looked at the child and then pointed his finger at himself. He saw the child nodding.

Cain walked closer to him crouched down and asked.

"What happened?"

"I am lost." The boy stated his reason.

"I see." Cain responded with no enthusiasm.

They both looked at each other and finally, the kid said in frustration.

"Help me!" A plea came from the boy.

"Why?" Cain asked the reason.

"Cause I am a child!"

"Who's your mother?"

"Why don't you ask about my father?"

"I only talk about people I might have an interest in," Cain said with a sagely voice and looked far away in the distance.

"You're a pervert?"

"No, I am a connoisseur of fine female specimens."

Cain continued to look far away in the distance, with a wise look in his eyes, a profound expression on his face, as he uttered bullshit.

"What is that?"

"You will understand when you grow up, so where does your mother live?"

Cain asked, standing up.

"Near a mountain!" The boy answered.

"Which mountain?" Cain asked another question.

"The scary one?"

"That doesn't explain which one."

Cain said with a sigh. The child only nodded his head.

"How about we ask someone else?"

"Sure, I am free anyways."

Cain said and gave his hand to the child. The child didn't take it and said while shaking his head.

"Mother said not to walk with strangers."

"Then I should not help you?"

Cain said, looking weirdly at the child. Something seemed off to him, but he couldn't put a finger on it. But his intuition was very strong, hence his reason to help him.

"No, just walk normally!"

"Fine." Cain said and began to walk.

The child hopped beside him, seeing his face Cain thought.

'His parents are lost? What a joke, his face and actions tell otherwise. I will humor him.'

The two walked for a while. When suddenly out of nowhere, or to be specific from behind a tree, a samurai appeared.

"I shall cut you down, demon!"

He roared as he charged at Cain. Cain raised his eyebrow and continued walking.

The child giggled while the samurai took out his sword and swung at Cain, a well-placed illusion took care of him.

"Maybe some woodwork would help him."

Cain said and continued walking towards the nearest mountain. When suddenly an old woman came up to him and asked.

"O noble man, can you spare some time to help me?"

Cain looked at her and continued walking ignoring the old woman.

"Wait, she's an old woman, at least hear her out. Or are you really a demon?"

The child said tugging at his sleeves. Cain sighed, turned around, and said with steel in his voice.

"What?"

"My cat has been stuck in the tree! Please help it come down."

Cain looked at the trees around and finally found a black cat on one of the tree branches.

He quickly scaled it and brought it down, it tried to scratch him, but his skin and clothes were hard.

"Here, now let's continue!"

Cain said and began to walk faster. He quickly went from a more populated area to a sparsely populated one.

He was getting closer to the mountain. But before he could truly relax another problem happened.

"Oh, Lord. Please help us, it hasn't rained in a long while, my crops are dying, and I have a family to feed."

He kowtowed at Cain.

'I am starting to see a pattern here. Anyways if such problems are going to happen it's best to solve them quickly.'

Cain looked at the sky and saw no clouds, he used his power of imagination to make it rain and then started away.

Within five minutes, drops began to fall on the entire city. Cain wasn't worried about someone noticing his act.

Nobody that strong was in the city and it was very hard to detect devil magic as it worked on imagination.

The drops fell on everything but Cain, his little application of demonic energy made him stay dry.

"Hey do that to me!"

"What?"

"The thing which helps you stay dry!"

Cain waved his hand over the boy and he too became dry and didn't get wet anymore.

They had just entered the forest and were beginning to scale the mountain. When Cain saw a huge boulder falling towards him.

"Really, a landslide?"

Cain said annoyingly and smashed the boulder. He quickly parted the landslide with magic and continued to move forward.

The boy was unaffected by the happenings, making Cain even more suspicious.

Soon he found a bear attacking him, it was also readily dispatched. But before he could get into a cave he had spotted, he heard a cry.

"Is that a deer?"

"Most probably." Cain answered the boy's query, he was about to go into the cave when he suddenly stopped.

'Should I save it? Are the coincidences happening for some reason? A Yokai, perhaps?'

Cain thought and with haste helped the deer which was near death. A boulder from the landslide had fallen on its leg.

The circumstances forced Cain to think.

'Did this happen because I made it rain on such a wide scale? Should I have only helped the farmer?'

But quickly threw away these thoughts and focused on the cave. But before he could go in the boy tugged at his sleeves and said.

"Aren't we going to find my mother?"

"Sure." Cains said and quickly used magic. To trace the child's bloodline but failed to do so.

'Is he an orphan?'

Cain looked at the boy and became engrossed in his thoughts.

"Let's see, your parents might be in the cave."

"No, I don't want to go in the cave!"

The child began to throw a tantrum.

'This is already the seventh problem I am facing in a short time, no the eighth, if I count Rizz.'

Cain said.

"I will teach you magic."

"Really?"

"Yes, now let's get going."

Cain entered the cave and his vision vanished. Poisonous gas began to fill his nostrils.

He immediately channeled magic into his eyes and looked behind him and saw no one.

"The boy vanished? No, maybe he wasn't real from the start? Indeed, no wonder I couldn't trace his parents. But how did I fail to notice that?"

Cain wondered, he then frowned.

"No, I can't be an illusion. I would have seen through it. Then he was in cahoots with the one orchestrating this? Indeed, that should be the case."

He then began to venture deeper into the cave. The density of the gas increased even more, but it had no effect on him.

Cain continued to walk and soon he stopped.

"Is this a spatial barrier?"

He quickly used a Darklight spear and confirmed his guess. And he was indeed correct.

He then shattered the barrier and then began to go deep inside the dark cave.

And now he could finally feel it. The thick miasma of a string Yokai. One at the Ultimate class.

"I didn't help those guys for nothing. Let's see who it is."

He walked and finally came face to face with a stone. It was lying on the ground. A strong sealing energy radiated from it.

"Hmm, what is this? I remember reading about such a stone. Oh, yes. This is a Sessho-seki. Used for sealing purposes. Then is it going to be who I am thinking is sealed here?"

"But isn't it said to be sealed in a different place?"

Cain said. The Sessho-seki were used for sealing purposes, they were volcanic rocks.

"But this makes much more sense. Whoever sealed 'her' wouldn't do that with loose methods. The other killing stone must have been a distraction and the real one is here."

Cain made a hypothesis, he had no way to check or prove it unless he went to see the other one. But he was almost sure that the one he was looking at was the real one.

"The miasma can't be faked. So how do I enter? Or break it?"

Cain to try it out touched the stone and his figure vanished from the cave. He came face to face with a Buddhist monk.

He was Gennō Shinshō, the man who had sealed the legendary kitsune, Tamamo-no-Mae, in the Sessho-seki, during the Nanboku Cho period.

He looked at Cain and said.

"Evil demon, I sense great evil in you. Get sealed and repent! Namo Amitabha!"

But nothing happened. He then said again.

"Get sealed and repeat! Namo Amitabha!"

Cain tilted his head at the monk and waited.

"In the name of the Buddha, be sealed!"

"Repent! Get exorcised!"

"Please get exorcised!"

Finally having enough, Cain said.

"Yeah, unless the real deal comes here. Good luck sealing me."

And destroyed the remenant soul of the monk, and the surrounding of his changed drastically.

He came into a grass field. It was green as far as the eyes could see on the ground and blue above till the horizon.

But Cain was unmoved seeing such a scenery. Because it was all an illusion.

"Isn't this enough? Come out already."

"Ara~Ara~, Someone with guts has come!"

A seductive voice came from Cain's behind, almost like it was said beside his ears and a woman appeared in front of him.

A woman with nine tails, the legendary kitsune, Tamamo-no-Mae.
