As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Why Don’t You Listen?

Inside the Empire State Building's penthouse ballroom, chaos reigned. Screams and shouts filled the air as if the once-poised elites had turned into panicked beasts. Dressed in their finest, members of high society and federal officials, now with red-rimmed eyes, were shouting demands, their dignity and composure shattered.

Only a few retained their calm, using their experience to keep away from those who had lost control.

Homelander looked down at them, scurrying like ants on a hot griddle, their so-called decorum and rationality long abandoned.

The sight amused him. And so, he laughed—loud, booming laughter that silenced all other sounds.

Holding his sides, he pointed at the crowd below. "You want me to protect you?"

"The moment you stepped into this hall, you left my protection behind," he sneered. "After all, you chose to support Olga Corporation. Why would you think I'd protect you?"

"And another thing," he continued. "Did you all forget who's inside those armors? They're soldiers, people who are supposed to protect you! Now, they're hostages, just like you. And yet, here you are, asking me to kill them?"

Joel, from Homeland Security, shouted, his face red with frustration. "We don't want this either, but right now, it's the most logical choice! Our status is worth far more than theirs!"

He pointed wildly at the soldiers in the armor. "You can't just watch us die here. So kill them! Do it!"

A chorus rose up, others yelling in agreement. "Kill them! Kill them!"

Two golden beams suddenly slashed through the air, cutting through Joel and those who had shouted the loudest. The beams left trails of faint smoke and flickered out, leaving the onlookers in stunned silence.

Joel's head slid cleanly off, his neck charred and smooth where the beam had passed. In seconds, his body dropped to the floor. A cascade of bodies followed, silent and still, strewn across the hall.

The crowd erupted in horrified screams, echoing through the ballroom, nearly shaking the ceiling.

Homelander's gaze was as cold as steel as he looked over the bodies. His voice, steady and emotionless, cut through the screams. "I already told you—don't give me orders."

"Why don't you listen?"

"Don't think your status makes you special. To me, you're no different from insects."

Near the platform, a female reporter huddled in a corner, tears brimming in her eyes as she stared at Homelander in his dark suit. "Why is he doing this?" she whispered. "Doesn't he care about his career at all?"

A male reporter beside her shook his head. "Maybe he never cared to begin with."

Just then, Jeff's voice crackled through the Titan armor. "Seems like I missed something."

Homelander smirked, resting his chin on his fist as he hovered above the platform. His eyes glowed with a golden light. "You better have something new up your sleeve. I'm getting bored."

From the Titan suit, Jeff's voice replied, "Oh, don't worry—the real show's just about to begin."

---

Over Manhattan, the full moon hung in the sky, casting its silvery glow on the city below. Beneath it, a shadowy figure hovered in the night air, cloaked in a billowing black cape. The eyes of Jeff's Dark Sovereign armor gleamed bright against the darkness as he looked toward the Empire State Building.

He kept his connection to the Titan armor active, monitoring as several Raptor suits flew toward Times Square with the vault.

In Times Square, the screens on surrounding buildings were still replaying footage of the bridges connecting Manhattan to the outer boroughs exploding one by one.

Suddenly, the ground shook, knocking people off their feet. In the center of the square, several silver-armored figures lowered the massive vault onto the pavement.

One of the Raptor suits raised its arm and fired a bright, concentrated beam, slicing cleanly through the vault's reinforced steel.

Sirens blared, and within moments, several police cars arrived, officers pouring out with weapons drawn.

"Hands up! Step out of those suits, now!"

The police chief's command was met with a laser blast. His chest burst open, and he fell back with a look of shock frozen on his face.

With that, gunfire erupted. The square erupted in panic as civilians scattered, while the Raptors retaliated with deadly precision. Some used lasers, others simply rammed into officers, sending them flying through the air.

Explosions, flames, and thick smoke soon filled Times Square. After a few minutes, the vault was finally cut open, revealing a large device resembling a radio tower and several silver canisters.

With the police cleared out, two Raptors grabbed the tower, while others picked up the canisters and flew off, scattering in all directions.

Minutes later, the tower was installed on the roof of the tallest building in Times Square, and Jeff, in his Dark Sovereign armor, descended from the sky, landing beside it.

He activated the power source, setting up his equipment, while the other Raptors deployed the silver canisters throughout Manhattan—some at the Arc de Triomphe, others at the docks, and a few near Wall Street.

Each canister was secured in place, mechanical supports extending and locking them to the ground or rooftops.

Meanwhile, the phones at NYPD headquarters were ringing off the hook. Families of the VIPs inside the Empire State Building were frantically calling, desperate for information on their loved ones, or using every available connection to pressure the police to save the hostages.

Inside his office, Police Commissioner Roy Ford was at his wit's end. His voice echoed as he barked orders, red-faced from the stress.

"Can someone tell me what's happening in the Empire State Building?"

"With the bridges down, can't we reach them by water?"

"And what the hell is going on in Times Square?"

"The Department of Homeland Security—what are they saying? This is way beyond anything the NYPD can handle!"
