Chapter 278: Only He, No! (Please Subscribe)
"Refuse?"
In the room of this Russian-style building, the middle-aged man wearing a brown hat lifted his head, his deep eyes emitting a sharp light, like an eagle eyeing its prey.
Yet the girl seemed oblivious, hanging her hat on the chair next to her before sitting down, looking directly at the man across from her, unflinched, "Yes."
The man in the brown hat immediately furrowed his brow, "Do you understand the importance of this mission?"
"Of course, the details are clearly stated in the document."
The girl nodded lightly, then quickly changed the subject, "But, do you understand the importance of this person to me?"
"Your thinking is flawed," the man in the brown hat intoned in a cold voice, as if the temperature inside was several degrees colder than the icy outside.
Clearly, the man in the brown hat is the commanding superior of this elfin woman.
Outside, the world was a blanket of white with snowflakes falling slowly, landing on rooftops and piling on the ground.
The entire world seemed utterly silent.
Inside, the silence was just as profound, filled only with the sounds of their breathing and the gentle rustling of the woman folding the letter.
The dim light highlighted the side profile of the girl, beautiful.
She casually brushed back a golden strand of hair from her forehead, revealing her fair, exquisitely beautiful features.
She lifted her brown eyes, handing back the folded letter with a decisive tone, "My mind is sound, I can complete any mission target, even if you asked me to give my life for North Bear, I wouldn't refuse, but this person, I can't."
The man in the brown hat remained silent, studying her expression as he sought to probe into her mind.
However.
Her gaze was steadfast, her light brown eyes filled with determination, showing no hint of retreat or evasion.
After a long pause.
The man in the brown hat sighed lightly, "You are the best candidate for this mission, and lots of forces are eagerly eyeing him, someone has already made a move, if he falls into the hands of others..."
"He won't."
The woman cut off the man in the brown hat.
"That's not something your trust can decide," the man in the brown hat stated solemnly, his voice deepening.
Every event has its variables; mere trust can't control the unpredictable.
And what the man in the brown hat wanted was to keep these variables in his own hands.
"It's not about blind trust; rather, it's his capabilities that instill my trust, he won't be taken down by others."
As she spoke, the woman opened her phone.
Then, she clicked on an app, expertly opened her bookshelf, displaying North Bear characters: Hacker Kingdom, This Assassin Is Too Professional, Black Ice, Arms Tycoon, and others.
Among them—
Currently Reading: Ace Agent.
"Is this his new work?" the man in the brown hat looked closely and muttered with a hint of doubt, "Ace Agent, does this novel have anything to do with him?"
"No connection?"
The woman spoke indifferently, "Have you read his 'Arms Tycoon'?"
"I'm not as free as you to read novels every day; I just subscribed to all, barely read the start," the man in the brown hat replied offhand.
Hearing that the man in the brown hat had subscribed to all, the woman showed a notably improved attitude, "Subscribed to all? Then we are book friends now, but you might not understand 'Arms Tycoon.' I suggest you read 'Ace Agent' more; it could help with your work."
The man in the brown hat leaned on the arm of the sofa, startled.
It seemed that, in front of this woman, the identity of a boss was less effective than that of a fellow book subscriber.
Just what's so captivating about that guy who knows a bit about weapon inventions?
And how could his novel aid my work which involves dealings not even big names in the Political World and Business World can access?
The man in the brown hat thought this was her exaggerated way of recommending.
Most people are like that; they tend to amplify the virtues of what they like and selectively ignore the flaws.
The woman in front of him seemed to be just like this.
"I've spoken my piece, whether you believe it or not is up to you," the woman said, then stood up, grabbing her hat from the back of the chair, tightened her black down jacket, preparing to end the meeting.
"Wait a minute!"
The man in the brown hat called out to her.
She emphasized again, "If it's still the same mission, then, no discussion."
The man in the brown hat formally stated, "I will report your opinions accurately upwards, as for what action will be taken, I will inform you, I hope you won't be too willful."
"I'll repeat, I can complete any mission target, except for him," the woman stated, then walked straight out of the room.
Bang, the door closed.
The room was left with only the man in the brown hat deep in thought.
The elf-like woman walked down the Russian-style building, her high-laced black leather boots pressing into the snowy ground, leaving a trail of footprints.
The night here was exceptionally dark blue and deep, and the snow very white.
The woman made her way home quickly, took off her down jacket, and put on soft home cotton shoes, settling into the comfortable sofa.
Her home was brightly lit.
She continued to pick up her phone, engrossed in reading 'Ace Agent' that she hadn't finished.
But now, her mind was filled with intricate thoughts.
Especially after the information shared by the man in the brown hat—that many forces had already made their move against 'him' and coupled with the multimillion-dollar bounty on the BM site, she suddenly couldn't enjoy the novel carefreely like before.
Seated on the sofa, legs crossed, she straightened her body, thought over and over, and made a certain decision in her heart.
