Chapter 18: Chapter 18 : Royal Banquet I
"So right now, the kingdom is still in a post-war phase, so the kingdom will hold a banquet tomorrow night," said Father.
'Here it is!' thought Van, both surprised and curious.
The [Royal Banquet].
A banquet held by the royal family for a specific purpose. That purpose is never known by anyone and can only be revealed when the banquet takes place.
In his novel, every banquet always leads to a shocking, surprising, and incredible result. It could be that the royal family suddenly declares war, announces new noble families, or discusses other topics just as astonishing.
But it's not only the outcome of the banquet that can be so interesting; during the banquet, fascinating things can happen as well.
There are nobles who discuss and form alliances.
There are nobles who were once friendly but suddenly become hostile.
In short, the [Royal Banquet] is always something intriguing.
"Prepare yourself for the [Royal Banquet]. You are the face of the Black family tomorrow night," Father said seriously.
"Understood, Father," Van responded with a serious tone.
"Alright. You may go," Father said, his voice slightly calmer.
"Then, I'll take my leave," Van said and left the room.

The sun set, and the moon rose to take its place.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
The Black family—Father, Mother, Van, Oliver, and Olivia—stood in front of the mansion.
The clothes they wore today were very different from their usual casual attire.
Father, Van, and Oliver wore formal clothing with black trousers, long-sleeved white shirts, and black tuxedos.
Mother and Olivia wore black evening gowns.
They all wore black, a distinctive trait of the Black family.
Behind them stood Sebastian and several other knights.
These knights were clearly much stronger than ordinary knights.
Along with Sebastian and the other knights, Arthur, Van's bodyguard, also accompanied the group. Arthur, Sebastian, and the knights were all dressed in formal servant attire.
"Is everyone ready?" Mother asked.
"Yes," Oliver replied enthusiastically.
Mother then snapped her fingers, and a large magic circle appeared beneath them.
The Black family and the others were enveloped in a dim light and disappeared from the mansion's courtyard.
In front of the Avalon Royal Castle.
The Black family and the others appeared right in front of the castle gate.
Their arrival seemed to have been anticipated by the guards, who welcomed them warmly.
"Welcome, Lord, Lady, Young Master, and Young Miss Black," the guards said, bowing in respect.
Father gave a slight nod to the guards and turned to Sebastian.
"Sebastian, take care of the rest," Father said to the head servant of the Black family.
"Yes, Lord," Sebastian replied, then walked toward the guards.
The Black family and the others walked into the castle.
Oliver and Olivia could only gape in awe, staring at the castle in front of them, their eyes filled with wonder.
'Reading about it in a novel and seeing it in person are two very different things. The life of the super-rich is truly something else,' Van thought as he looked at the castle before him.
[Le Louvre de Versailles Palace].
That was the name of the Avalon Royal Castle.
The castle's walls were made of enchanted stone and decorated with bright, shining jewels.
The interior exuded the aura of a medieval European era.
Everywhere you looked, there were paintings, flower vases, wood carvings, and other medieval ornaments.
Upon entering the castle, the Black family was immediately directed to the banquet hall, which was already crowded with other nobles.
The arrival of the Black family naturally drew the attention of everyone in the banquet hall.
The first person to approach the Black family was a middle-aged man, not much older than Father. In his hands were two glasses of red wine, still full.
Although the man was middle-aged, his hair had already turned white.
However, don't be mistaken into thinking that this middle-aged man was stressed or looked unusually young.
"Good evening, [Duke of Black]," the middle-aged man said, handing one glass of red wine to Father.
"Good evening as well, [Duke of White]," Father replied to the middle-aged man.
"How is your territory? I've heard the Elves are becoming more and more unruly," [Duke of White] asked while sipping his red wine.
Clearly, there was a verbal insult in [Duke of White]'s tone.
However, his words were true.
The Black family's territory was in the westernmost part of the Avalon Kingdom, bordering the [Forest of Life].
The Black family's task was to monitor the [Forest of Life], which was home to the Elves and other creatures of nature.
However, being on the border also had its advantages for the Black family. There were various materials, medicines, spices, and other commodities that could only be found in the [Forest of Life].
Thanks to this, the economy in the Black family's territory flourished due to the resources from the [Forest of Life].
"We are fine. What about your family, Felix? I heard your son prefers being a swordsman over a magician," Father asked with a slight smile.
Upon hearing this, [Duke of White], known as Felix, glared at Father. It was clear that Father's statement hit a nerve with Uncle Felix.
Van, standing quietly behind Father, listened calmly to their conversation.
If the Black family produced swordsmen, the White family produced magicians.
Each generation of the White family had extraordinary talent in magic.
Throughout the history of Avalon Kingdom, the number one magician had always come from the White family.
However, that record was recently broken with the rise of Mother, Victoria Aurelius.
Currently, the number one magician title belonged to Mother, and the second position belonged to the White family.
Since then, there had been some minor conflicts between the Black and White families.
In Van's opinion, it was better to call it a rivalry than a conflict.
Additionally, the White family was facing a problem that caused them quite a headache.
Felix White's son, Adam White, preferred swords over magic and chose to become a swordsman.
This news spread throughout the kingdom, and the White family became a laughingstock among the nobles.
"Be quiet, William," Uncle Felix said sharply to Father with a displeased expression.
"HAHAHAHA. Don't you know that your White family has become the laughingstock of the nobility?" Father said, laughing mockingly at Uncle Felix.
"You too. Both your twins have golden hair, and they think you have a mistress," Uncle Felix said with a slight smile.
Upon hearing that, Father's cheerful expression vanished immediately.
A frown appeared on his face, showing just how displeased he was.
The uniqueness of the seven great families was in the color of their hair and eyes, each representing their family name.
The Black family had black hair and eyes.
The White family had white hair and purple eyes.
The Gold family had golden hair and eyes.
The Silver family had silver hair and golden eyes.
The Blue family had blue hair and eyes.
The Green family had green hair and eyes.
The Blue family had blue hair and eyes.
"Look who we have here, the Black and White families. Both families have recently become the subject of ridicule."
Upon hearing the tone of the voice from afar, Van suddenly felt disgusted, even though he didn't know who was speaking.
