Chapter 8: Chapter 8 : The Lost Kid I

A day has passed since the departure of [Huginn & Muninn].

Meanwhile, Van was going through his daily routine every morning.

"999. 1000." Van muttered.

"Finally done." Van muttered, wiping the sweat off his forehead.

"Krakk krakk!"

The sound of cawing crows echoed through the front yard of the mansion.

Van, who was wiping his sweat, suddenly stopped when he heard the sound of the crows.

Without hesitation, Van ran into the mansion, under the confused gaze of the soldiers.

"What's wrong with Young Master Black?"

"I don't know. Maybe Young Master is afraid of crows."

After running through the large mansion, Van finally reached his room.

There, Van saw a pair of crows, one black and one white, perched on his window.

"How is it?" Van asked.

"Krakk krakk. The target is at the town market," said Huginn, the black crow.

"I see. Keep monitoring," Van replied.

"Krakk krakk!"

After that, the two crows flew off into the sky, leaving the Black family mansion.

Van then walked over to his study desk and saw a small glass orb on top of it.

The glass orb was a [Communication Orb], which connected one orb to another.

The mechanism was simple: just place your palm on the orb, channel [Mana], and speak the name of the orb's owner.

Van placed his right hand on the [Communication Orb] and murmured, "Sebastian."

The [Communication Orb] lit up with colorful light, and Sebastian's face appeared inside.

"Greetings, Young Master. How may this old man assist you?" asked Sebastian.

"Sebas, prepare the carriage. I'm going to the market," Van instructed.

Hearing Van's command, a bit of surprise appeared on the wrinkled face of Sebastian.

"Is there something you wish to buy, Young Master? I will have the servants purchase it for you," Sebastian offered.

"No need. I will go myself," Van replied.

"Understood, Young Master," Sebastian responded, still slightly confused.

On the streets of Black Town, a luxurious carriage was being pulled, followed by a procession of heavily armored soldiers.

The luxurious carriage was gilded with gold and adorned with colorful accessories.

Hundreds of soldiers, clad in heavy armor and riding horses, created a heavy pressure on the surrounding civilians.

P.O.V. Van.

Right now, I was sitting with Sebastian in the luxurious carriage.

In contrast to Sebastian's dignified expression, my face looked flat, but deep inside, I felt frustrated.

"Sebastian... What's all this for?" I asked in a flat tone, but the meaning behind my question was worth pondering.

"It is to ensure your safety, Young Master," Sebastian answered calmly.

'Ensuring the safety of your ancestors!' I thought, mocking Sebastian's answer.

What kind of noble needs hundreds of level 20 soldiers to visit a market?

People might think there was a market demolition happening when they see such a large procession.

After about half an hour, we finally arrived at the market.

When I got out of the carriage, I saw a medieval-style market.

Although the backdrop of this world was medieval, it was relatively advanced.

Especially the town currently managed by my father, the Duke of Black—Black Town.

Black Town was the second-best city in the Kingdom of Avalon, right after the capital of Avalon.

In terms of education, health, per capita income, etc., everything was fairly advanced.

However, the brighter the light, the darker the shadow.

In the medieval era, the social strata system greatly influenced society.

Especially the nobility, who didn't want to live on the same level as commoners and didn't care about their lives.

As a result, the rich got richer, and the poor got poorer.

'What a trashy social system,' I thought as I observed the darker side of this world.

As I looked around, suddenly a hand patted my shoulder.

"Young Master, what would you like?" asked Sebastian.

"Buy me some fried chicken," I said.

".....Understood," Sebastian replied, a bit confused.

After a while, Sebastian returned with a bag of fried chicken in his hand.

"Here you go, Young Master," Sebastian said, handing me the package.

I took the package from Sebastian and stared at the sky.

*Krakk krakk

Hearing the cawing sound, I looked up and saw [Huginn & Muninn] flying in the sky as if guiding me.

"Wait a moment, I need to go to the restroom," I said and walked away from the procession.

"Wa-" Sebastian tried to follow me but was interrupted by my words.

"Stay there. I don't need your help for something like this," I said as I walked away.

"Understood, Young Master," Sebastian responded.

After leaving Sebastian and the others behind, Van walked through a dark, narrow alley.

As Van walked, a dark figure suddenly appeared not far ahead.

Despite the dim lighting in the alley, Van could vaguely see the figure in front of him.

The figure was slightly shorter than Van.

Its rainbow-colored eyes glowed faintly in the darkness.

The shoulder-length white hair made it stand out in the shadows.

Seeing the figure before him, Van felt no fear.

The figure suddenly ran toward Van, its intentions unknown.

But Van remained calm, allowing the figure to get closer.

When the figure was very close, Van stepped aside and lifted his foot.

The figure tripped over Van's foot and fell to the ground.

Due to the close distance, Van was able to clearly see the figure's face.

A boy around 4-5 years old with rainbow-colored pupils and white hair.

His handsome face and pale skin were covered in dust all over his body.

The figure just sat on the ground, staring at Van with his beautiful, sharp eyes.

"Your eyes... I like them. Eyes full of spirit that will never give up," Van said.

Van then tossed the package in his hand and said, "Eat that."

The child hesitated for a moment when he saw the package Van had thrown.

However, the delicious smell coming from it made the child unable to resist, and he quickly opened it.

Without hesitation, the child eats a piece of fried chicken, finishing it in a matter of seconds.
