Chapter 43: First round
POV Callum
I watched as the stands filled with people, each stadium with people hoping to see their friends or family win. Of course, stadium one with the level one through nine bracket had the least amount of people in the stands despite its high participant count.
"Hopefully the betting pool gets the guild some good cash" I said watching as bets were placed. Noticing someone I transported myself to the group and came up behind them.
"Come to watch Zuko fight" I said startling Iroh.
Recovering from the fright Iroh said "Tower Master I did not see you there. Yes I came to watch Zuko fight, I am hoping her will do well"
"From what I hear he has been doing quite well in the tower"
"People and monsters are two different things"
"True" I started "Follow me, there is a box open for nobles and other important people"
"Lead the way"
Leading Iroh through the crowded area we made our way to the third stadium once we arrived I led him up some stairs right near the entrance. Arriving in the box I noticed that four people were already here. Goshen and his assistant, Ozao and Azula.
"Brother? You are here" Ozai said, confused.
Bowing a bit Iroh responded "Yes brother, me and Zuko arrived at the tower a bit before you did"
"So, my banished son felt fit to join this tournament" Ozai questioned.
"Zuko has grown while he was gone," Iroh replied.
"What bracket is he participating in?" Azula asked.
"Of course, he is participating in the twenty through twenty-nine bracket"
Both Azula and Ozai got an ugly look on their faces after hearing that so I decided to bring up their status.

I had to stop myself from laughing out loud, Ozai is probably extremely frustrated right now that his banished son is a higher level then him especially since they almost made it into the bracket. In fact I could feel the malice coming off of them, entirely.
"When do you fight?" I asked, still trying not to laugh.
It was a Azula who answered "We both fight near the end of the initial matches so father wanted to come see as many of these matches as we could"
"Why don't we sit, the matches are supposed to begin shortly" Iroh spoke up.
Ozai just hummed and nodded, taking a seat at the front of the box. I was about to sit down when Azula spoke up.
"Why don't you sit next to me, Tower Master?" she said.
I felt bad knowing that Ozai put her up to these antics so I decided to sit next to her at the front of the box giving her an awkward smile. Soon an Elf I didn't recognize walked to the center of the field and used a magic item I provided to amplify his voice.
Starting his speech, he said "Welcome viewers and participants to the first tournament of the tower. This is the stadium made for the levels twenty through twenty nin bracket, remember that purposeful torture or killing is prohibited though as the tower mast said at the announcement accidents do happen" he paused for a second "All climbers though are here for one thing and one thing only, the rewards"
With that I cast an illusion to display the rewards above the stadiums.
Bracket 1: LV 1-9:
First place: Property in minas tirith; High grade gear, XP
Second place: Low grade gear, XPT
hird Place: Miniscule amount of XP

Second place: Skill, XP
Third Place: Small amount of XP
Bracket 3: LV 20-29

Third Place: Medium amount of XP
Bracket 4: 30+

Second place: High level piece of gear, Large amount of XP
Third Place: Medium amount of XP
Continuing the Elf said "As you can see the first place person for each bracket will get a property in the Tower Master's own city on the fiftieth floor as well as some additional rewards"
Letting people read the rewards the Elf stopped and before he began I changed the illusion to only show the rewards for the bracket for that specific stadium.
"I sincerely hope that any who wished to bet have done so by now and remember anyone caught cheating; and you will be caught; will face permanent ban from the tower by order of the Tower Master" Stepping to the edge of the field he announced the first match "For our first match of this bracket we have Dao Loong from the earth kingdom and Pakku from the northern watertribe"
Stepping onto the field Pakku kept a steely gaze at his other opponent, a younger man with a goatee and a large build.
"Now participants get ready to fight" the Efl said pausing letting the suspense fill up then eventually he said "Hai"
The earth kingdom man ran forward, sword in hand, a glow covering his body. Pakku in response sent a large tendril of water at him but he moved to the side too quickly dodging it. Using more water Pakku slid around the arena throwing spikes of water at the guy. Barley blocking it he started to get some cuts on his arms and face trying to protect his vitals. As a last ditch effort the Earth Kingdom man activated an ability that launched him forward directly at Pakku. Giving Pakku no time to dodge, he yelled, activating another ability to keep Pakku in place. Barely recovering in time Pakku wrapped the guy in a bubble of water and started to freeze it making him pass out.
Stepping further into the area the Elf said "That was a close match but the winner is Pakku from the northern water tribe"
"He is good," Iroh commented.
"If it weren't for his stubbornness, he would be a vice-guild master right now" Goshen piped up.
Ozai just stared at Pakku so intensely that Pakku actually looked up at him as he was leaving the field. Waving my hand the field magically went back to normal.
"Alright for our next match we have Li from the fire nation" The Elf said pointing to a normal looking kid in fire nation garb. "His opponent is anything but ordinary. Please welcome a rising star in the tower that many teams have tried to recruit but failed. A kid no older than sixteen. Prince of the fire nation, Heir to the throne, Prince Zuko"
Holding a launch in, I saw Ozai's face contort like he swallowed a lemon. It was very worth it giving the Arin instructions for Zuko's announcement. It wasn't a complete lie many teams have tried to recruit him but it was more grand than it needed to be.
Everyone watched as Zuko entered the arena, swords in hand. I could see the black compass hanging from his belt. All the fire nation citizens cheered at his entrance. Having such a star representing them made them even more excited.
"Participants get ready to fight" The Elf began.
"He will lose, as always," Azula said.
"I wouldn't be so sure," I commented.
"Hai" the Elf finished.
Before anyone could react Zuko blasted across the field slamming the butt of his words into the other participants stomach immediately crumpling him to the ground unable to fight.
"The winner is Zuko of the fire nation"
Looking up, Zuko locked eyes with his father then bowed deeply, leaving the stadium. The rest of the fights went well with only a few surprises. When Ozai and Azula left for their own matches I followed along to see them fight. Ozai did as expected and just filled the entire area in front of him with fire immediately ending the match and almost killing his opponent; a young water tribe warrior. Azula's fight was more entertaining not only due to her blue fire but also because of her habit of dragging out the fight. Expectedly though both did win.
The most boring fights happened in the one through nine brackets as ninety percent of the winners were benders and only a few normal people made it past the first round. There were even some instances of participants eliminating themselves and their opponents trying something stupid. After a good half day, the first round of matches was done, and people began to filter out of the stadiums for the long break before the next round began.
