Batman’s Son in Marvel

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Tony Is Sour

Adam's questions hit Tony Stark like a hammer. For someone known for his sharp tongue, Tony suddenly found himself at a loss for words. As a genius, he naturally didn't believe these people were investigating his home out of friendliness. Even the blueprints of his luxurious seaside villa had been carefully studied. He wasn't naive enough to assume they had good intentions.

Still, he felt the need to argue. "Maybe they really came here to be friends."

Adam didn't even try to hide his disdain. "Right, and maybe they'll fly an armed helicopter to your house to deliver the friendship message."

In the movie timeline, Killian's men had flown a helicopter gunship to Tony's villa, reducing it to rubble. Tony nearly died trying to save Pepper Potts. Given that Tony's home was in a no-fly zone, any aircraft required government approval to pass through the area. Yet, Killian's men managed to invade with ease, showcasing their terrifying influence and connections.

Adam wasn't about to let Tony face these people alone. This time, he needed backup—and Tony Stark was the perfect lightning rod to attract attention.

Adam didn't give Tony a chance to argue further. "I'll see you in the oil country in three days. And don't forget to prepare ionization protection. They have weapons specifically designed to counter the armor."

Without waiting for a response, Adam ended the call.

Tony cursed under his breath but soon fell into deep thought.

Three days passed quickly.

Adam arrived at the rendezvous point early, taking stock of the underground hangar filled with dozens of armors he had prepared. Unlike the battle on the high seas, this time he needed to keep a low profile. He couldn't send thousands of armors rampaging through the desert without drawing international attention.

For this mission, the underground armory was enough. As he studied the structural layout of the base through his helmet interface, a signal appeared on the radar.

A white blur streaked across the sky at high speed before landing in a showy pose.

Tony Stark emerged from his armor, his mask lifting to reveal his face. His eyes immediately fell on Adam's armor—sleek, polished, and more advanced than his own.

He curled his lips. "Alright, kid, let's get this over with. The fight won't take long, and I still have a party to attend."

Adam grabbed Tony's shoulder before he could take another step.

"Are you seriously just going to charge in without scouting first?" Adam asked, narrowing his eyes. "Do you even know how many people are in this base? What kind of weapons they have? Are there self-destruct systems? Did you think about any of this?"

Tony's expression froze, and Adam could practically see the gears turning in his head.

"Unbelievable," Adam muttered. "You Avengers really don't plan ahead, do you? No wonder Loki can outsmart all of you with nothing but illusions."

Tony looked a little offended but couldn't argue.

Adam sighed and explained, "This base is used by AIM for human experimentation. It's heavily guarded, with twenty-man tactical teams stationed at the only entrance. There's also a manual self-destruct device, which I've disabled for now—but there's no guarantee they can't reactivate it."

Tony was silent, so Adam pressed on.

"This place is hell on earth. The experiments here are designed to create super-soldiers by stabilizing Extremis. The process has a high failure rate, and test subjects—civilians—are replaced daily. Old people, women, children. They're all disposable to these monsters."

Tony's face darkened.

"So let me be clear—there are no innocent people here," Adam finished. "Not even the researchers."

Tony bristled. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You know exactly what I mean. I'm just saying, try not to get distracted by a pretty face. These people are desperate for test subjects, and they won't hesitate to use anyone."

Before Tony could argue, Adam turned to Skynet. "Send in the first wave of armors to breach the entrance. No one gets out."

The steel-armored units emerged from the underground hangar, marching toward the base's entrance. Behind him, Tony Stark stared at the army of custom armors.

His eyes widened. "Wait a minute—did you build all of these?"

Adam shrugged. "Of course. Once the basic design was complete, improving them was easy. Not a big deal."

Tony's jaw clenched as he took another look at the dozens of armors. Each suit likely cost around $200 million to produce. A quick mental calculation told him that the lineup in front of him represented a budget that would make Stark Industries' annual revenue look like pocket change.

Even for someone as wealthy as Tony Stark, it was a hard pill to swallow.

"Are the Waynes really this rich?" he muttered.

Adam turned and blinked. "Huh? Oh, you think these are expensive? I used materials from my family's private stockpile. Honestly, I'm not even sure how much they cost."

Tony almost spat out blood.

To Adam, these suits were just tools—disposable if necessary. But to Tony, each suit represented an investment of time, research, and money. Watching Adam treat them like spare parts made his head spin.

For the first time, Tony Stark felt what it was like to be outclassed.
