Faced with invitations from other professors, Asher politely declined them all with a smile and kind words.

Henry, acting the part of an experienced elder, couldn't help but offer Asher some advice: "You shouldn't isolate yourself too much. You still need to interact with everyone."

Talking fosters camaraderie.

After all, it's a small community, and you'll be seeing each other frequently in the future.

No need to make relationships awkward, right?

"To be fair, I'm not in the best position to lecture you about this. I'm also not the kind of person who likes spending time socializing, but…"

Henry glanced at the remaining group of scholars, researchers, and professors in the pet beast industry from the province and nearby cities, and shook his head with a wry smile.

"Honestly, exchanging ideas with others can be a good way to spark new thoughts."

Speaking like a seasoned veteran, Henry said, "Asher is different from us," before Harry chimed in, "He's young, full of energy, and his brain is fresh, buzzing with wild ideas. He doesn't need to rush to communicate with us."

Jane nodded in agreement. Couldn't agree more.

Who among them had come up with the concept of "affinity," let alone applied it to pet beast evolution?

If nothing else, this proved how sharp Asher's mind was—like it had just rolled off the production line.

Asher: "?"

'Are they actually complimenting me? Why does it feel… off?'

Marie also looked at Henry and quipped, "You talk as if you enjoy networking and communication."

If he weren't forced to, how often would Henry step out of the research institute?

In the past six years, the accumulated leave he hadn't used would probably add up to a full year.

"Take this opportunity to get out and use up some of that backlog," Marie suggested, barely finishing before Henry strongly objected.

"No way, absolutely not."

Henry frantically waved his hands. "The new evolution route for the little fox needs professional oversight. Asher is starting school soon, so he won't have the time. As a senior, I can't just sit back and do nothing."

"And there's still the adjustments for the evolution research on the Flame Hound. With Asher's critical input, if we work quickly, I believe we can make real progress…"

Henry rattled on, listing one task after another.

The workload was immense, all waiting for him to tackle.

Vacation? What vacation? Not happening.

Asher silently gave him a thumbs-up.

He had met the ultimate workaholic. As long as the "competition" didn't involve him, everything was fine.

"Thank you for your guidance, professors, but I really have something urgent at home," Asher said, not dismissing their advice.

Their intentions were good, rooted in concern for his future.

Although Henry didn't explicitly say it, Asher understood his meaning.

The academic circle was, after all, a circle—connections, information exchange, resource sharing…

They feared Asher might undervalue these aspects due to his youth, leading to potential setbacks, so they subtly pointed them out in their own ways.

He appreciated their kindness but didn't feel these things were as crucial as they made them out to be.

Why did Asher study pet beast evolution?

To gain new skills.

To help his Little Raven evolve successfully.

Staying true to his goal, Asher kept his mind clear.

All those concerns could be addressed later if he continued discovering new evolution paths for extraordinary beasts.

"I'm genuinely worried about my pet beast. I should head back soon," Asher said earnestly, using a not-quite-lie as an excuse to leave.

The others nodded understandingly.

"Then you'd better go back. Issues with a contracted pet beast should never be taken lightly," President Robb said. Knowing Asher had a mutated Oriental Peacock as his contract beast, he immediately understood that something unusual must have happened with it.

Without asking more, President Robb urged Asher to head home.

Carrying a few packed snacks, Asher boarded a car and pulled out his recently replaced phone. He quickly sent a message to Ron.

[Asher: Brother Yang, how's Little Raven? Has it woken up yet?]

[Ron: No, it's sleeping soundly and even snoring.]

Ron's reply came quickly.

Asher sighed.

Ever since the Fire Fox Queen's evolution, Little Raven had fallen asleep and hadn't woken up since.

At first, Asher let Little Raven stay in the Beast Space within his spiritual sea for a day. But realizing that might delay its recovery, he decided to follow his usual routine—keeping Little Raven outside during the day to soak up the sun and moonlight.

Today, since he had to attend the academic conference, he entrusted Little Raven to Ron. It wasn't ideal, but he figured if Ron refused, he'd just keep Little Raven in the Beast Space for the time being.

Surprisingly, despite their previously rocky relationship, Ron agreed.

Asher wasn't worried about Ron harming Little Raven.

After all, the Pet Beasts Act and Pet Beast Protection Law were clearly written. Ron wouldn't gamble his future on something like that.

[Asher: Thanks a lot, Brother Ron!]

After chatting briefly with Ron, Asher opened another chat window that had been flashing non-stop—it was his class group chat.

[Vicky: The Fire Fox Queen is stunning—so fluffy. I wonder if I'll ever get a chance to pet it. My bro is amazing, coming up with two new evolution paths in just one summer.]

Before Asher could reply, messages flooded in.

[Ronnie: What's there to brag about? It's Asher's achievement, not yours. Does he even acknowledge you as a friend?]

[Ronnie: If he really treated you like a brother, why hasn't he helped with your big-headed lizard? Hah, and you still have the nerve to show off?]

[Vicky: My friendship with my bro is none of your business. And even if my Dragon Lizard isn't doing great right now, it could still crush your Thunder Fang Tiger without breaking a sweat.]

Asher frowned.

'Vicky's Dragon Lizard is having issues?'

Ignoring the noisy group chat, Asher directly messaged Vicky.

[Asher: Vicky, what's going on with your Dragontooth Lizard?]

[Vicky: …Uh, you saw me arguing in the group chat? It's nothing serious, really…]

[Asher: Are we still bros or not? Forget texting—just come find me, and I'll take a look.]

Asher wasn't sure if his talent skill could identify the problem, but who cared?

Vicky was his "good son," and the Dragontooth Lizard was like a chubby grandson to him.

No way was he going to ignore their troubles.

Asher: 'Conscience dictates it.'
