"Furen, are you really taking on another mission already?"

Shizune was surprised to see Furen picking up a mission scroll the moment he heard that he could earn experience by completing missions, eventually reaching Jonin rank.

"Didn't you just finish an S-rank mission? You don't need to…" Shizune began, but Furen seriously picked up a mission labeled "Tea" and said in a determined tone, "Konoha is in a delicate period following the change in Hokage leadership. If we fail to complete incoming missions, won't other villages think we're still weak?"

Shizune fell silent, respect filling her gaze as she and even Kakashi considered whether they had been doing enough to support Konoha during this critical time.

"Tch, that brat Furen," Tsunade muttered with a smirk, "he's starting to resemble Nawaki more and more…"

As the new Hokage, Tsunade was under immense pressure, more than she had anticipated. Although the Five Great Nations wouldn't overtly challenge Konoha, they were testing its strength subtly. Recently, the number of mission requests Konoha received was far beyond what they'd seen since before the war. Tsunade and the senior officials suspected that these missions were deliberately placed by rival nations to drain Konoha's resources and assess its strength.

As a result, Konoha had been cautious with task assignments, avoiding large-scale deployments to keep its forces battle-ready. Only the upper echelons knew about this strategy, and yet Furen had somehow grasped the situation.

"This brat's already worrying alongside me?" Tsunade thought to herself.

Tsunade's favorability toward you increased by +3.

Hearing the notification in his mind, Furen was momentarily taken aback. "That was a lucky coincidence…"

He chuckled to himself, realizing how difficult it was to gain Tsunade's favor. His recent strategy of using missions to increase her favorability had proven correct; Tsunade's dedication to Konoha was now her top priority.

The mission Furen had picked up was a B-rank escort task from the Land of Tea, a request involving a trivial feud between two local factions, Mustard and Wasabi, over control of a shrine. Each faction would send a participant to retrieve an item from the shrine and return to the main site, the one to arrive first gaining control of the roads for the next year. The Land of Tea had requested Konoha's assistance to protect the runners during the event.

While on the surface it seemed minor, Furen was more interested in the person the client wanted Konoha to protect.

The client's representative was Idate Morino, the younger brother of Ibiki Morino, Konoha's head interrogator and the proctor of the Chunin Exams' written test. Idate had fled Konoha after being influenced by his teacher, Aoi Rokusho, who persuaded him to steal one of the Second Hokage's weapons and a scroll of forbidden sealing techniques, defecting to the Village Hidden in the Rain.

Idate was later taken in by Jirocho Wasabi of the Land of Tea and worked under him. The weapon he stole, the Sword of the Thunder God, along with the forbidden sealing scroll, had since become highly sought-after tools in the ninja world.

"I really want to see what the Second Hokage's Sword of the Thunder God can do," Furen thought.

In the Hokage's records, Furen had never seen Tobirama use the Thunder God Sword, so he wasn't sure of its true power. But since it was a weapon protected by Konoha and sealed with a forbidden jutsu, it seemed like a task worth taking on.

"Lady Tsunade, I'll take this escort mission," Furen said, formally requesting the B-rank mission.

"Approved. Are you planning to handle it alone?" Tsunade asked.

Furen nodded. "For a B-rank escort mission, handling it solo won't be an issue for me."

This reminded Tsunade of when she had first met Furen, right after he'd completed a similar B-rank escort mission.

"All right, the mission is yours."
