Billionaire in Kingsman with a Marvel System

Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Cyber Invasion

Garris looked helplessly at the resolute M, trying to persuade her, "Don't make this difficult for us, ma'am. This is a unanimous decision by the committee. You should step down gracefully to avoid making things hard for everyone. If we have to force you out, it will damage your dignity."

"To hell with dignity, Garris. Do I have any dignity left now? I've served England all my life, and this is how you treat me? I'll leave after I complete this mission. Catching the mastermind is the only dignified retirement."

Garris felt somewhat helpless. Considering M's significant contributions and the special nature of the agency, he wasn't in a hurry to force M to retire immediately. "Alright, please reconsider, ma'am. By the way, let me introduce you," he said, gesturing to William. "William is our appointed liaison. During this period, he will be under your command. If you need anything, let him know, and he will communicate with the committee."

M looked at William in surprise, not expecting the billionaire to actually become an errand boy for the Security Committee. "William, you've done well. So, everything I do during this period has to be reported to you?"

M glared at William, a volatile powder keg of frustration. William, not wanting to become M's punching bag, said, "Ma'am, I'm just a liaison. I promise I won't interfere with any of your decisions at the agency. Things will be as they always were. I'm just the messenger."

William, who had always been at odds with her, surprisingly didn't take this chance to taunt her, which improved M's mood a bit. "Let's go, Mr. Liaison. We have a lot of work to do."

"No problem, ma'am. I'm happy to assist." William wasn't about to antagonize M now. Compliments were free, after all, and it was akin to showing respect for the elderly. "Please, ma'am, I'll get the door for you."

"Thank you," M smiled and nodded. "Let's go, William. Come to my office for a drink. I heard you like whiskey. I have a bottle of Macallan 1928. It cost me £6,000. Today, I'll treat you as a welcome drink."

"That's wonderful, ma'am. It's my honor. After you, ma'am."

M smiled and nodded, leaving the office without greeting Garris. William shrugged at Garris and followed M out.

With Turner joining them, M suddenly said, "Alright, William, Garris isn't here now. You don't have to pretend. Tell me what you know."

"Sorry, ma'am. I only found out about the committee's decision today. You know I never care about political matters. If it weren't for attending Bond's funeral, I wouldn't have come to London."

"William, you're not being honest. I know what your family does. Garris appointing you as my liaison is just a cover. You're here to investigate internal issues, aren't you? Or are you here to investigate me?"

William was glad he hadn't taken on the internal investigation task. These people were sharp enough to figure out the real reason with just a little thought. "Of course not. I'm here to avoid that mess. Rest assured, no one doubts your loyalty. I'm here to find the mastermind behind the leaked agent list. This time, we're in the same boat."

M considered William's usual avoidance of internal conflicts and believed he wasn't there to investigate her. She was curious why he accepted Garris' assignment. "I'm curious why someone like you, who enjoys buying land and raising horses in Oxford, would suddenly accept Garris' task. William, don't brush me off. I know you well. What did Garris offer you to make you risk joining in?"

William thought for a moment before saying, "Alright, ma'am, let's be candid. I won't interfere with your agency affairs. I'm only investigating the leaked agent list. As for why I accepted this task, let's just say it's a result of mutual benefits."

M quickly deduced, "Switzerland?"

William nodded helplessly. Talking to intelligent people was straightforward; a hint was all they needed.

M nodded, understanding that it involved a significant amount of money. It made sense for William to accept the task. "In that case, I trust you for now, William. After Bond's incident, I couldn't find a suitable candidate for a secret investigation. I know your abilities. Garris made the right call. In operations, you're the best choice. You must have taken down over a hundred people in the past six months, right?"

Who keeps track of their own body count? William shook his head at M. "I haven't kept count. Probably not."

Turner suddenly spoke up, "We found the number to be 97 confirmed, with dozens more suspected."

M smiled, "See, William? I told you, in operations, you're the best. Over a hundred people in six months. You truly live up to the ruthless reputation of the Devonshire family. The nickname 'Butcher of Devonshire' isn't just for show."

You old lady, William thought, feeling irritated by her sudden mockery after not getting information from him.

"Do you know why your Devonshire family is called the 'Butcher'? Because your family is synonymous with death. Countless people have died at the hands of the Devonshires over the centuries. I hope you remember, William, that this isn't the chaotic times of the past. Whatever you do now, consider the consequences. In times of peace, the authorities always consider public opinion. Look at me; they don't care about your contributions to England," M said, feeling a bit downcast.

Seeing M's sad expression, William knew she was hurt by the forced retirement. Alright, considering she'll retire in less than two months, he decided not to argue. Plus, she was right; this was a rare moment of kindness.

So, William sincerely thanked M, "Thank you, ma'am. I'll remember your words."

"Good. It's great that you can take advice. Let's go to the agency and discuss the leak."

They got into M's car and headed to the agency. On the way, a beeping alarm suddenly sounded from Turner's laptop in the front seat. Turner quickly opened his laptop and exclaimed, "Ma'am, someone is hacking into our security system. I suggest we immediately disconnect from the network. The intruder is about to break in."

Instead of being alarmed, M was pleased. She had been wondering how to find the opponent, and here they were, coming to her. Perfect for tracing them back. "No, we can't disconnect. We can use this opportunity to trace the intruder's location. Order the agency's cybersecurity experts to track them."

Turner nodded, taking out his phone to call his colleagues. But before he could finish speaking, his laptop was hacked. "God, how is this possible? They broke through our firewall."
