Bizarre Honkai, a Wife-Chasing Crematorium

Chapter 36: “Will I Die?”

Just what was the host of this funeral thinking? If all the living people died, who would bury him?

Would the dead carry the coffin?

Another half a minute passed. Three heads jumped in with a "thump," "thump," "thump," occupying three more seats.

Only one empty seat was left of the twelve.

He couldn't wait any longer.

"I'll try to occupy one of the seats," Li Mo said.

"But... those seats are clearly for ghosts. Big brother, if you sit there..."

"My state is special. Even if something goes wrong, I won't die easily. It'll be best if the 'restaurant' makes a mistake in its judgment. If I fail, I'm confident that I can get away unscathed."

"If everything goes according to plan, the other ghosts shouldn't make a move after I sit down. They won't be able to start their banquet."

"But if the banquet proceeds normally and the ghosts start eating us..."

Li Mo didn't continue. What he had to do next was simple: wait to die, hoping he could retain his self-will.

But from the looks of things now, if he died again, he would really die.

Without hesitation, Li Mo walked to the only remaining seat and sat down.

He was now half-human and half-bizarre. If the feast required all twelve seats to be occupied by entities with bizarre attributes, then as long as he occupied one seat, he could block the prerequisites for the start of the banquet.

Because the seats would never be filled, there would only be eleven and a half bizarre entities.

As expected, when Li Mo occupied a seat, the scene entered a stalemate. Eleven ghosts, plus Li Mo, didn't cause anything too bizarre to happen.

The flames on the grave incense flickered slightly, and their brightness decreased quite a bit.

Deeper darkness poured into the auditorium, enveloping the faint light.

"Creak..."

The crisp sound of bones creaking appeared near the window. Theresa's upside-down head rotated 360 degrees with a snap.

The headless corpses all turned their bodies to face Li Mo.

The eyeballs in the heads on the seats rolled to look at Li Mo, revealing confused gazes. They sized up Li Mo again and again.

It seemed like the existence before them was both reasonable and unreasonable.

The judgment changed again and again.

"Big Brother, be careful!" Saori Tsuruyo called out.

Li Mo suddenly turned his head and saw that the tall corpse next to him had moved its half-remaining head to his face.

The brain matter and various rotting tissues mixed together and dripped onto Li Mo's nose, making him nauseous.

The next moment, the half-head opened its mouth, which was missing lips and teeth, and was now just a skeletal jaw, and tried to swallow Li Mo's head whole with an extremely exaggerated degree of opening.

"Seriously… whether it's head ghosts or Kiana, or even a derivative that just appeared now, they all covet my head. Do you really think you deserve it?"

"Bang!"

Blue-purple flames started to burn the half-head. The tall corpse seemed to be in pain, its whole body convulsing. Its head slammed hard on the ground and rolled around non-stop. Its spine twisted around and around.

Outside the window, Theresa's gaze became even more fierce, staring at Li Mo with hatred.

Li Mo had to fire this shot. He couldn't let the power of other bizarre entities linger on his body.

That would accelerate his bizarre revival and even directly cause his judgment of death to immediately reset, and then he would completely revive as a bizarre entity.

But this shot made the ghosts on the remaining seats restless. They had been hesitating about Li Mo's identity, but with this act of flipping the table, they now thought that Li Mo was no longer one of them.

But rather, that he was food that should be on the dining table.

"So, they figured me out?"

Facing the simultaneous attacks of eleven ghosts, Li Mo didn't panic. Instead, he quickly shoved the muzzle of his gun into his mouth.

And then…

"Bang!"

"Sizzle…"

The bullet pierced his throat. The blue-purple flames started to burn his flesh.

A bullet couldn't kill a bizarre entity, nor could it kill Li Mo. As the flesh constantly healed, Li Mo's form of existence became even closer to that of a bizarre entity.

The corpse spots on his body started to spread wildly. His body emanated a foul stench from the gutter.

Rotten traces vaguely appeared in his cloudy eyes, completely obscuring his pupils.

The other ghosts stopped, but they still didn't go back to their seats.

Li Mo held his gun, using the barrel to stir the hole that had been shot through his throat.

Only a patch of bright red could be seen filling his mouth, and his tongue tasted the pungent, sweet taste of blood.

The wound that had been pierced was stretched open, torn, and then healed, again and again.

Li Mo's eye muscles couldn't help but twitch. The intense pain stimulated his brain.

But gradually, the pain lessened little by little…

The marginalization of his senses meant that his characteristics as a "human" were being consumed little by little.

His mouth was dry, but he gradually no longer felt thirsty.

The pain was unbearable, but he gradually stopped suppressing it.

The eleven ghosts returned to their seats and continued to wait.

Bizarre entities were like that, their actions strictly followed rules and logic, like code running.

Li Mo, who had been suspected just a second ago, was recognized as one of them in the next second, without any hesitation.

Danger enveloped Li Mo so closely, allowing him to taste the feeling of death, as well as the taste of his thoughts and emotions gradually becoming numb.

"Ah… uh, ah…"

Li Mo opened his mouth, making babbling noises like a child, or making a dry growl like an uncivilized ape.

Li Mo covered his mouth, spitting out a large patch of striking blood.

His gaze gathered on his hand. The blood wasn't completely crimson, but instead, it was mixed with the blackish-red blood that had seeped out of the spirit tablets earlier.

Even the pungent, nauseating smell was exactly the same...

At this moment, the figure in the portrait on the spirit tablet and Li Mo's current face were surprisingly similar.

As time passed, his throat finally healed, but Li Mo's eyes had become even stranger, nearly identical to the eyes of those heads.

"…"

Li Mo didn't speak. He increasingly lacked the desire to speak, becoming more and more indifferent.

His dead eyes seemed to have become his only language.

He looked towards everyone. The students all showed horrified expressions, even more so than when they saw the head ghosts.

They had seen Li Mo shoot out his own throat with their own eyes, and then use the gun barrel to constantly stir the wound…

They had seen the wound heal in a bizarre way, and the corpse spots on his hand spread rapidly.

They had seen him spit out a large amount of blackish-red blood, and they could smell the unbearable stench.

A terrifying thought was growing in everyone's hearts.

Li Mo was no longer human. Maybe he was a ghost with consciousness from the beginning.

Even if Li Mo had saved them many times, as long as they were still alive, as normal humans, they would fear the unknown existence that he had become.

Eleven ghosts and Li Mo surrounded them. The banquet still hadn't started.

The judgment was still in progress. As long as they could hold out until the next morning, everything would end.

But Li Mo's condition was very bad, not just in his appearance, but also in his gradually decaying organs.

His blood was gradually mixed with corpse fluid, flowing freely through the complex blood vessels in his body. His organs had started to degenerate and shrink.

Logically speaking, this kind of physiological condition would have long been considered as death, but the bizarre entities wouldn't allow it.

Bizarre entities wouldn't die. They sustained life in an incomprehensible form of existence, and it didn't matter if all life characteristics disappeared.

"The judgment was successful, but can I really hold out until the next day when they leave?" Li Mo couldn't help but question himself.

He was particularly sensitive to the changes in his body. He had destroyed his body just now to further his bizarre transformation, to allow him to be judged as a bizarre entity.

But now that the judgment was successful, his wounds had also completely healed, but the bizarre entities were still deepening their interference with his consciousness.

"There's something wrong with the spatial position of the seats... Even if I didn't accelerate the bizarre influence on myself, this place would have gradually turned the people sitting there into bizarre entities."

This was normal. All the attendees of the ghost banquet should naturally be ghosts. It wouldn't be surprising if a human mixed in was assimilated.

"Will I die?"

"..."
