Chapter 50: An Eventual Reunion
"Perhaps it's an aftereffect of using bizarre methods for treatment, but this isn't the time to talk about this. Let's get the burial done."
Shigure Kira urged, carrying the coffin forward.
Saori Tsuruyo stepped aside, carefully observing Shigure Kira's current state. Aside from the change in her hair, she seemed to be the same as before.
"Boom!"
The black coffin was placed inside the hole. It was a perfect fit, completely sinking into it.
"Is this it?" Shigure Kira asked, looking back.
"Let me think, wait, help me open the coffin."
Saori Tsuruyo remembered the words from the notebook:
[At 2:12 PM, I'll throw the notebook into the black coffin. The black coffin will be successfully buried, and the funeral will come to an end.]
Shigure Kira didn't refuse. She bent down and easily lifted the coffin lid.
Li Mo's intact body came into view. It hadn't decomposed, nor did it smell.
It didn't seem as if he was dead, but rather, just asleep.
But his chest wasn't rising and falling. There were no signs of breathing. Shigure Kira didn't see Li Mo's bizarre state, so in her eyes, Li Mo was dead, it was just that he looked a bit better in death, and his body was still intact.
Shigure Kira stood there, her pupils gradually becoming unfocused. The red glow inside seemed about to burst out and completely take over her clear blue eyes.
"I love…"
"Captain Shigure Kira? Why are you spacing out? Did something happen?" Saori Tsuruyo couldn't help but ask when she saw Shigure Kira kneeling on the ground, staring at the black coffin.
Even if she wanted to remember him, it shouldn't be at a time like this, right? The burial was the most important thing.
"Yeah, it's nothing. I just spaced out for a bit," Shigure Kira shook her head, and the red glow in her eyes disappeared. "Is there anything else we need to do for the ritual?"
Saori Tsuruyo walked to the coffin and nervously took out the bizarre notebook. After a brief hesitation, she threw it inside.
The moment it wasn't facing the two of them, a line of text appeared on the notebook.
[My name is Saori Tsuruyo, and I am the only normal person who made it out of St. Freya… I survived. I'm the only one who survived.]
This was the difference in outcome that was brought about by experience. Having used the notebook for the first time, Saori Tsuruyo was unable to gain more information from it.
Especially regarding the last two sentences: [At 3:00 PM, I will leave St. Freya Academy.] [My name is Saori Tsuruyo, and I have survived.]
The information that the notebook provided was very straightforward and simple. The simpler the information, the more secrets were hidden inside. Many possibilities were contained within those two simple sentences.
The notebook wouldn't lie, but it could choose what to narrate, emphasizing some parts while glossing over other parts.
"This should be it. Let's close the coffin lid. The funeral is over."
Saori Tsuruyo let out a sigh of relief. "Oh, right, Captain Shigure Kira, I want to join your team. Can you…"
Saori Tsuruyo was verifying the notebook's words. If Shigure Kira's answer was different from the notebook's prediction, then she would consider taking the notebook back out of the black coffin.
"You're too weak. Come find me again after you become an 'A-rank Valkyrie,' and I'll let you join… Before that, you should leave first. I need to deal with some 'special matters.'"
Exactly the same… Saori Tsuruyo felt very confused. Was the notebook really that reliable?
This was the final stage, the final step. Wouldn't it set some kind of trap?
"Okay, since the funeral is already over, this grave incense shouldn't be needed anymore…Captain Shigure Kira, do you need it? Huh? It's gone…how…?"
Saori Tsuruyo looked down at the grave incense, which was now just an empty tray, and couldn't help but be surprised.
When did it disappear? How could she not have noticed at all?
"You…you better leave here quickly," Shigure Kira said coldly.
Saori Tsuruyo really wanted to stay here for a while longer before leaving, but if she didn't do as the notebook said and leave at the right time, she might not be able to leave the school alive.
After repeatedly verifying Shigure Kira's words with the notebook's predictions, Saori Tsuruyo believed this even more.
And…Shigure Kira's current state was really strange, and she herself didn't seem to have noticed.
I have to leave quickly.
Saori Tsuruyo wasn't the kind of person who couldn't adapt to change. It was clear that if she stayed here, she wouldn't be able to do anything but add another corpse to the pile.
Since the notebook said that the burial had been successful, Saori Tsuruyo could only choose to believe it.
She no longer had the power to do anything more.
At 2:50 PM, Saori Tsuruyo arrived at the school gate and climbed over the wall next to it.
After leaving the academy, Saori Tsuruyo ran at full speed, sprinting away from St. Freya's walls.
At 3:00 PM, she left St. Freya Academy.
After she came outside, a bone-chilling cold swept through her body. The vegetation was covered in a layer of snow-white frost, and light snow was falling from the sky.
"Snow? Isn't it summer now?"
Saori Tsuruyo couldn't help but tremble as she hugged herself and walked shakily toward the road not far away.
The sun inside the academy had been blazing, but the outside world was covered in snow and ice. The two stark extremes confused Saori Tsuruyo greatly.
What on earth had happened?
Back at St. Freya, after Saori Tsuruyo left, Shigure Kira, as if her soul had been sucked out of her, knelt down on the ground. The strand of pure white hair fell from Shigure Kira's head into the black coffin,
landing right on the notebook, which had opened itself.
"Ugh… Did I space out again? Why isn't the coffin lid closed? And where's Saori Tsuruyo? Whatever. All that's left is to bury the coffin."
Shigure Kira finally recovered after a while. She closed the coffin lid and filled the hole with soil.
She found a stone nearby, used brute force to polish it into the shape of a tombstone, and then inserted it into the ground.
Lastly, she didn't forget to pick up the tray from the grave incense and place it in front of the tombstone.
"Sorry, this is all I can do. A simple, nameless tombstone for you…"
Shigure Kira whispered. She still didn't even know his name.
"You've already done more than enough. I'll take care of the rest."
Shigure Kira was about to leave St. Freya. When she arrived at the playground, she couldn't help but look back at the auditorium. She hesitated for half a minute, wanting to bring the corpses of the fallen Valkyries back to Schicksal.
But corpses had uncertain elements, and no one could guarantee that these corpses wouldn't turn into new bizarre entities.
"Sorry, I can't bring you back, not even your belongings…"
"But I promise you, your deaths won't be meaningless. Rest now if you're tired. I'll take care of everything else."
"It's time for me to leave."
The funeral was over. All the rituals had been completed, and the dead could finally rest in peace.
As soon as the thought of leaving appeared, Shigure Kira suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed onto Li Mo's grave. Her hair continued to grow longer and longer, reaching into the soil.
The hair reached into the black coffin, adjusting the position of the notebook so that it was on Li Mo's chest.
The extra hair wrapped tightly around Shigure Kira, not allowing her to leave.
"What the hell is this?! I can't break free…?"
Shigure Kira desperately tried to stretch out her limbs. She even used all of her stigmata power, but she couldn't break the seemingly fragile hair.
The hair was like a spider web, and Shigure Kira was the prey caught on it.
The diary page had been tampered with by the pure white hair. Clearly, Shigure Kira's power was far too insignificant compared to a bizarre entity and a Herrscher.
She couldn't get rid of this hair, and could only lie on the ground.
Inside the black coffin, the notebook flipped to the first page, and the pure white hair on it became a kind of summoning medium.
The black coffin was large. It had even held four people on the night of the watch.
The first page of the notebook gradually became old, damaged, and yellowed… Some faint cobwebs appeared on it, and the wrinkled page looked like it had weathered decades.
The first page had turned into what the last diary page that Li Mo had found in the infirmary had looked like.
This day had finally arrived.
During the watch at night, the notebook had stalled for time, causing Shigure Kira to nearly die.
Shigure Kira nearly dying made Li Mo go to the infirmary. With Li Mo's habit of observation, he was bound to find the diary page and summon Bizarre Kiana.
This summoning had definitely failed, but this first failure had paved the way for the second, complete arrival: an inconspicuous strand of hair that had been left behind in the ashes.
The key to the door had already appeared. The door had also appeared. It just needed the two to touch for the path to this spacetime to be opened.
And this time, there wouldn't be any chance of failure.
The hair on the notebook kept twisting and warping. In the end, it was absorbed by the notebook…
Soon, a slender, pale hand emerged from the first page of the notebook, grabbing tightly onto Li Mo's heart.
The hand pushed down forcefully, and the soft, delicate body gradually entered reality.
Crimson eyes interwoven with dark gold, an exposed body, a slender waist, long, pale legs…
Bizarre Kiana was completely there, sitting on top of Li Mo's body. And there would no longer be any time limits imposed by mediums.
