Bizarre Honkai, a Wife-Chasing Crematorium

Chapter 97: Family and Resolve

Using Bizarre Mei's organs, confessing his love to a Bizarre Mei who loved Kiana, all while in the presence of the Bizzare Kiana…

Li Mo pondered the implications. Could Bizarre Mei truly counter the Bizzare Kiana? It seemed unlikely. Bizarre Mei's memetic manipulation and usurpation powers were formidable, but the Bizzare Kiana's time manipulation could render them useless.

Where did Bizarre Mei's powers originate? Her memetic manipulation stemmed from her longing for the past, for a world untouched by tragedy. But her usurpation… was it born from the guilt of stealing his organs?

"Your plan isn't impossible."

"But can she withstand the Bizzare Kiana? If she fails, I'm next."

He hesitated. This contradicted the Notebook's prediction. But the Notebook was unreliable. It offered solutions that crumbled upon closer inspection, traps disguised as safe paths.

He couldn't gauge Bizarre Mei's power level. Similar to End-state Kiana, perhaps? But she'd only existed for a century, not millennia like the Bizzare Kiana. The difference in corrupted time was significant. But Bizarre battles weren't simply about power levels. Their rules, their quirks, were the deciding factors.

"Leave. Take Mei."

He burned the diary pages, watching them turn to ash, then left the cabin. He glanced at the tattered red and white cloak on the grass, a flicker of sadness in his clouded eyes. Memories might be fake, but actions were real.

He summoned his hoverbike, a streak of blue light piercing the darkness, racing towards the city.

Only two "living" beings remained in this silent world, both wearing the masks of humanity. Li Mo could still return to his true self, but Mei was now just a shell, inhabited by a Bizarre entity. That's why the other Bizarre entities hadn't attacked her. She was already one of them. The child Mei was a fabrication, a construct of memories and memetic manipulation.

A faint whimper echoed through the deserted streets, followed by the sound of running footsteps and ragged breaths.

Mei, covering her nose, ran through the streets, her eyes wide with fear.

"No one… Brother… where are you…?"

"It's so scary… is he dead…?" She stared at the countless corpses, all bearing Li Mo's face.

The world had changed overnight, mirroring the horrors she'd seen in his memories. Was she trapped in that nightmare again?

Li Mo found her, lost and terrified. The world had reverted to its true form, including her bedroom, its decay and filth undeniable, even in her sleep.

He landed the hoverbike.

"Brother?" Her fear vanished, replaced by relief. She ran towards him.

"Get on."

She climbed onto the back of the bike, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist.

The hoverbike shot forward, towards East River Cemetery.

"Brother! The wind!" Her hair ribbon flew off, her ponytail unraveling, her long hair whipping in the wind.

Li Mo heard her, his senses amplified, but he didn't respond. He didn't know what to say.

She leaned against him, her head resting on his back.

They reached the cemetery. Li Mo dismissed the hoverbike, standing before the rusted gates.

"Are we going back?" Mei asked, her voice small, her hands clenched.

He checked his phone. 5:00 AM. Thirteen hours until the portal opened. He needed time to analyze the Notebook's plan, to identify its flaws, to prepare his countermeasures.

"Yes."

Mei bit her lip, her eyes downcast. She wanted to ask him something, but she didn't want to anger him.

They sat in silence, the rising sun offering no warmth.

Li Mo closed his eyes, feigning sleep.

Mei fidgeted beside him, stealing glances at him, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.

Exhausted, she finally closed her eyes, her head resting on his shoulder, her lips parting slightly. She fell asleep, silent and still.

Li Mo opened his eyes, looking at the desolate cemetery. Just as the Notebook had described.

Who maintained the illusion of the old world's prosperity? Did it crumble when I saw the truth? Or did the Bizzare Kiana do something?

If the old world had a guardian, the new world must have one too. Bizarre Mei's creation? How would the Bizzare Kiana deal with it? Time freeze? Or simply consume it?

He tried to analyze their potential confrontation, hoping Bizarre Mei was strong enough. He'd lose the Core of Reason and the Star of Eden upon returning. He was fast, even without them, but not fast enough to outrun the Bizzare Kiana.

"Mmm…" Mei stirred, a soft whimper escaping her lips. She opened her eyes, her gaze filled with fear. A nightmare.

She looked at him, then quickly looked away.

"Say what you want to say. You won't get another chance."

Sunlight filtered through the trees, dappled patterns dancing on the ground.

"Fine."

She hesitated, then whispered, "Brother… do you think I'm… fake?"

"You know the answer. You're just avoiding it."

"I… I am, aren't I?" Her hands trembled.

"I'm a fabrication. A copy."

"I have all of Mei's memories… I thought I was her, living happily with everyone in the old world…"

"But I came here, to the new world. I entered the cabin… I couldn't stop myself."

"I was… happy… being tortured by someone who looked like you… I even… enjoyed it…"

"I don't want to be hurt. I want to be with everyone… but why…?"

"Because you're not Mei. You're not human. You're a Bizarre entity with Mei's personality. Her memories made you believe you could have that life, but it's not your truth. That's the contradiction. You follow the Bizarre's rules, but you have a human personality. You want to resist, but you can't. You want to embrace your true nature, but you can't. Bizarre entities have no free will. They're slaves to their rules."

His words were sharp, dissecting her, exposing her true nature.

"Brother… do Bizarre entities… cry?" She looked at him, tears streaming down her face.

"Are my emotions… fake? My thoughts, my feelings… my family… all fake?"

"Even my guilt… is it just because Mei felt guilty towards you? Is that why I obey you?"

"Yes."

His answer was cold, devoid of emotion. Three deaths had taken their toll.

"I'm sorry…"

"Am I… causing you trouble…?"

"Do I… look ugly now…?" She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, struggling to accept the truth. Her loved ones, fake. Her love, fake. Everything, fake.

Li Mo remained silent, unable to offer comfort.

"8:00 PM. We return to the original world. I'm ending this nightmare." He changed the subject, his voice flat. Mei's consent was irrelevant. She couldn't defy her own rules. She was bound to repeat the cycle of cruelty, even if she didn't want to.

"I understand…"

She reached out, her hand moving towards his chest. He instinctively grabbed her wrist, then released it. She wasn't a threat.

Her hand touched his heart.

"Brother, your heart is cold…"

"Because I'm dying. Three days, at most."

"I won't let you die." She placed her right hand over her left, feeling the warmth. "I promise."

She'd accepted the truth, seen Bizarre Mei's memories, understood his plan. But it was too dangerous. He couldn't do it alone.

"Why were you so kind to me in the basement? One last question… did you… see me as family, even for a moment?" Sunlight illuminated her face, her purple eyes shining.

"Yes." He hadn't lied. In that basement, he'd treated her like a sister, offering her a human's respect, a human's compassion.
