Bleach: White Blossoms

Chapter 13: 13

As they made their way toward the outskirts of Karakura Town, where their target was last reported, the playful energy between them began to shift. The air grew heavier, and a faint spiritual disturbance rippled through the atmosphere. Yurei and Soi Fon stopped in unison, their senses sharpening.

"You feel that, Captain?" Yurei asked, her tone now serious.

Soi Fon nodded. "Yes. A cluster of Hollows. And something... stronger. It's faint, but it's there."

Yurei's green-and-gold eyes narrowed as she focused on the disturbance. "It's not just Hollows. There's something else mixed in. Could it be one of the Crowned Hollows Yamamoto mentioned?"

"Possibly," Soi Fon replied. "Stay alert, we still haven't seen what they're capable of yet."

The two disappeared into a flash step, reappearing near a forested area on the town's outskirts. The spiritual pressure grew denser as they approached, and soon, they found themselves surrounded by low-level Hollows.

"I'll clear the small fry," Yurei said, drawing her Zanpakutō, Shirayuri. The blade gleamed like polished silver, its aura radiating calm yet deadly precision.

"Don't take too long," Soi Fon replied, her tone clipped as she prepared to scout ahead.

Yurei smiled faintly. "I won't. Has there ever been a time where I kept you waiting?"

With a graceful swing of her blade, Yurei activated her Shikai. "Blossom, Shirayuri."

White lilies bloomed into existence around her, their petals glowing with ethereal light. With a mere gesture, the spectral flowers swirled outward, detonating one by one in bursts of reiatsu that obliterated the weaker Hollows instantly.

Soi Fon watched from a distance, her sharp eyes narrowing.

As the last of the weaker Hollows faded into nothingness, a sudden roar split the air, and the ground trembled beneath their feet. A massive figure emerged from the shadows of the forest—a Hollow unlike any they had ever seen. Its mask was intricately engraved with crown-like patterns, and its eyes glowed with a dangerous intelligence.

"Looks like we found one," Yurei said, her voice calm but edged with anticipation.

Soi Fon stepped forward, her Zanpakutō already drawn. "Be careful, Yurei. If this is one of the Crowned Hollows, it won't go down easily."

Yurei smiled, the excitement of battle flickering in her eyes. "Good. I was starting to think that they were too scared to even come out."

The Hollow let out a deafening roar and charged, its sheer presence radiating malice and power. Soi Fon and Yurei exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them.

"Let's finish this quickly," Soi Fon said.

Yurei nodded, her petals swirling around her like a deadly storm. "Agreed."

The battle had begun.

The Crowned Hollow roared as it stomped forward, its massive claws raking the ground as it charged. Its reiatsu poured out like a flood, oppressive and wild, distorting the air around it. Yurei stepped forward, her blade raised, while Soi Fon circled around, her movements so swift she seemed to flicker out of existence.

"I'll draw its attention. Captain, go for its blind spot," Yurei said, her tone calm, her eyes sharp.

Soi Fon gave a curt nod, vanishing into a blur.

The Hollow lunged at Yurei, its claws swiping in a wide arc that threatened to tear through the ground itself. But Yurei didn't flinch. With a flick of her wrist, Shirayuri's blade dispersed into hundreds of glowing white petals.

"Hanabira no Odori—Petal Dance."

The petals danced in a mesmerizing storm, intercepting the Hollow's claws mid-swing. Each petal carried a razor-sharp edge, slicing through the thick hide of the beast. The Hollow howled in frustration as its attack was deflected.

From behind, Soi Fon emerged from the Hollow's blind spot, her speed blurring her form. "Nigeki Kessatsu—Two-Step Kill." She thrust her Zanpakutō, Suzumebachi, directly at the Hollow's back, marking it with a glowing butterfly insignia.

However, just as her second strike was about to land, the Hollow twisted unnaturally, its arm lashing out at an impossible angle.

"Tch!" Soi Fon leapt back, avoiding the blow by a hair.

"It's faster than it looks," Yurei noted, her petals reforming into her Zanpakutō as she stared down the beast.

The Hollow growled, its crown-like mask glowing ominously. Suddenly, the ground beneath them erupted as tendrils of dark energy burst forth, aiming to ensnare both Shinigami.

Yurei spun on her heel, her movements fluid. "Hakuhana no Kabe—Wall of White Blossoms!" she called out. A barrier of luminous petals erupted around her, deflecting the tendrils as they lashed against it.

Soi Fon darted to the side, her speed outpacing the attacks. She narrowed her eyes. "This thing isn't like the others. It's learning from us, adapting to our techniques."

Yurei tilted her head slightly. "That's strange, but interesting at the same time. What if we keep it alive and studied it?"

The Hollow roared again, its reiatsu spiking. The tendrils retracted into its body, and in their place, black energy began to condense around its hands, forming massive claws brimming with destructive force.

"Yurei, your inner desires are showing again," Soi Fon said. "Anway, focus. We don't know what it's capable of yet."

"Don't worry, Captain. I'll make sure it doesn't surprise me," Yurei replied.

The Hollow lunged again, its energy-clad claws tearing through the air with devastating speed. Yurei stood her ground, her Zanpakutō glowing in her hand. As the Hollow's attack closed in, she raised her blade.

"Scatter, Shirayuri!"

The blade once again dissolved into petals, but this time, they didn't just scatter. The petals formed intricate patterns in the air, creating a swirling vortex around the Hollow.

"Hana no Sōzō—Flower Creation."

Dozens of spectral lilies bloomed in the air around the Hollow, their petals shimmering with concentrated reiatsu.

Yurei raised her hand, her green-and-gold eyes glinting. "Bloom."

The lilies detonated in rapid succession, each explosion sending shockwaves rippling through the battlefield. The Hollow screamed as the blasts tore into its body, chunks of its mask and flesh breaking away.

Soi Fon landed beside Yurei, her expression stern. "That should've been enough to finish it."

"Should've," Yurei echoed, her gaze locked on the smoke-filled air where the Hollow stood.

A deep, guttural laugh echoed from within the smoke. As the dust cleared, the Hollow emerged, its body battered but still intact. The cracks in its mask began to seal themselves, and its reiatsu surged again, even stronger than before.

"It's regenerating," Soi Fon muttered, her eyes narrowing. "And its spiritual pressure just spiked. It's feeding off the damage we dealt."

"Interesting," Yurei said, her tone calm despite the situation.

"Interesting isn't the word I'd use," Soi Fon snapped.

The Hollow raised its claws, black energy swirling around them as it prepared to unleash a devastating attack.

Soi Fon turned to Yurei. "We need to coordinate. If it's regenerating from damage, we'll have to hit it with something it can't recover from. Do you have a way to cut it off from its reiatsu?"

Yurei considered for a moment, then nodded. "I can, but I'll need time to set it up. Can you keep it distracted?"

"Leave it to me," Soi Fon replied, vanishing in a flash step.

While Yurei began weaving her petals into an intricate formation, Soi Fon engaged the Hollow directly. Her speed made her almost untouchable, her movements so swift that the Hollow's claws sliced through empty air again and again.

"Distracted, are we?" Soi Fon taunted, darting in to deliver quick strikes before retreating out of range. "Good. Stay focused on me."

Meanwhile, Yurei's petals formed a massive ring in the air, glowing with an intense light. She placed her hand on the center of the ring, her reiatsu surging as she chanted an incantation under her breath.

"Shinsei no Senritsu—Sacred Melody," she whispered.

The ring of petals began to hum with a resonant tone, their glow intensifying as they locked onto the Hollow.

Soi Fon leapt back, landing beside Yurei. "Is it ready?"

"Almost," Yurei replied. "Keep it within the radius."

The Hollow, sensing the danger, roared and charged toward them.

"Not so fast," Soi Fon said, appearing in its path. With a swift movement, she activated Shunko, lightning crackling around her as she delivered a powerful strike that sent the Hollow staggering backward.

"Now, Yurei!"

Yurei raised her hand, and the glowing ring of petals descended, encircling the Hollow. The petals exploded into beams of light, forming a massive dome around the creature. Within the dome, time seemed to slow, and the Hollow's movements became sluggish.

"Byakuren no Kekkai—White Lotus Barrier."

The Hollow roared in frustration, its energy flaring as it tried to break free. But the barrier held firm, its reflective surfaces disorienting the beast as it flailed.

Soi Fon nodded in approval. "Impressive. That should keep it contained for now. What's next?"

Yurei smiled faintly. "We finish it."

With that said, petals surrounded the Hollow, and exploded.

The dust from Yurei's explosion hadn't even settled when a low, guttural growl reverberated through the air. The Hollow, now nothing more than a scorched husk, began to writhe. Its charred body cracked, blackened fragments falling away to reveal a horrifying transformation underneath.

"What the—" Soi Fon's voice cut off as the Hollow's new form emerged.

A towering, grotesque creature covered in segmented, armor-like scales, its mask now adorned with jagged horns that radiated spiritual pressure so dense it felt like gravity was pulling them down.

"It's evolving," Yurei said, her tone calm but her grip on Shirayuri tightening.

"That shouldn't be possible. Not after taking that level of damage," Soi Fon said, her tone sharp, already shifting into a combat stance.

The Hollow roared, its spiritual pressure surging outward in a violent wave that cracked the ground beneath them. Yurei barely had time to react, forming a shimmering wall of glowing white petals—Hakuhana no Kabe—to shield herself and Soi Fon from the blast.

"It's not just evolving," Soi Fon muttered, her voice low. "Its reiatsu feels... different. Corrupted, almost like it's being enhanced by something external."

"External?" Yurei echoed, her gaze narrowing as she analyzed the Hollow's movements. It wasn't just stronger—it was moving with a terrifying level of intelligence, as if it were learning from their attacks.

The creature lunged, its claws slicing through the air with shocking speed. Yurei twisted away, her form blurring as she activated Shunpo, dodging its attack by a hair's breadth. Soi Fon darted to the side, her Suzumebachi striking a precise blow to the creature's leg, but instead of collapsing, the Hollow merely roared and lashed out with its tail, forcing her to leap back.

"It's adapting," Yurei said, her tone grim. "We need to hit it harder."

Soi Fon smirked, her golden gauntlet glinting in the dim light. "Then let's stop holding back."

The Hollow roared again, its mask glowing with a sinister red light as it fired a concentrated blast of energy toward them. Yurei raised her hand, summoning Kagami no Hikari—a mirror of blinding light appeared in the air, capturing the attack mid-flight and reflecting it back toward the Hollow. The blast struck its chest, sending it crashing to the ground, but almost immediately, it began to rise again, its body crackling with energy as it regenerated.

"Regeneration too?" Yurei muttered, her grip tightening on Shirayuri.

Soi Fon growled in frustration. "Fine. If it wants to regenerate, I'll just destroy it faster than it can heal." She vanished in a burst of speed, reappearing above the Hollow with her Suzumebachi aimed at its head.

"Nigeki Kessatsu!" Soi Fon shouted, landing the first mark on its mask before flipping back to deliver the second strike.

But the Hollow twisted at the last second, its tail whipping upward and deflecting her attack. The mark faded, leaving Soi Fon stunned. "It canceled the mark?"

"It's definitely being enhanced," Yurei said, her eyes narrowing. She raised her blade, her voice calm but resolute. "We'll have to overwhelm it before it can adapt further."

She unleashed Hanabira no Odori, her blade dissolving into a storm of glowing petals that swirled around the Hollow, slicing into its armor with relentless precision. At the same time, Soi Fon darted in and out of the fray, her speed leaving afterimages as she targeted the creature's joints.

The Hollow roared in frustration, its body convulsing as it unleashed another wave of energy. This time, the blast sent both Yurei and Soi Fon skidding back, their defenses barely holding.

"This isn't normal," Yurei said, her voice tight. "Something's amplifying it. It's almost like... it's being controlled."

"Controlled?" Soi Fon echoed, her gaze hardening. "By who?"

Before Yurei could respond, a sharp whistle cut through the air. The Hollow froze, its glowing eyes dimming as if responding to an unseen command.

A figure emerged from the shadows, cloaked in a long, dark coat. Their face was obscured by a hood, but their reiatsu was unmistakable—calm, precise, and eerily similar to that of a Quincy.

"Stand down, Shinigami," the figure said, their voice smooth and commanding.

Yurei and Soi Fon both raised their weapons, their gazes locked on the stranger.

"Who are you, and what's your connection to this Hollow?" Soi Fon demanded, her tone icy.

The figure chuckled softly, their hands raised in a mock gesture of peace. "Let's just say I'm... an observer. This creature isn't your typical Hollow, as I'm sure you've noticed."

"You're controlling it," Yurei said, her voice sharp.

"Controlling? Not quite," the figure replied. "Let's just say I'm guiding it—helping it reach its full potential. It's fascinating, don't you think? Watching it evolve in real-time, adapting to your every move."

Soi Fon's reiatsu flared, her patience clearly wearing thin. "If you think we'll let you continue your little experiment, you're sorely mistaken."

The figure tilted their head, their tone almost amused. "Oh, I'm not here to fight. This is simply a test, and you've already given me the data I needed."

Before either of them could react, the Hollow roared again, its body glowing with a blinding light as it began to disintegrate. The figure turned to leave, their voice carrying over their shoulder.

"Consider this a preview of what's to come. The balance between Hollow, Quincy, and Shinigami is shifting. I suggest you prepare yourselves."

The Hollow's energy erupted in a final, deafening blast, forcing Yurei and Soi Fon to shield themselves. When the light faded, the Hollow and the stranger were gone, leaving only a deep crater in the ground.

Yurei frowned, her gaze lingering on the empty space where the figure had stood. "This mission just got a lot more complicated."

Soi Fon sheathed her blade, her expression unreadable. "If that was just a test, we need to report this immediately. Whatever they're planning, it's far from over."

With that, the two vanished into the night, their thoughts heavy with the implications of what they had just faced.
